Looks like your buds have taken a liking to the COB lights. Have you found any drawbacks, downsides or oddities to using them yet?

The COB lighting is amazing, I have to say I am very impressed with them thus far. Most of the LED researchers I know from other forums have all switched over to COB lighting and many are saying that its the next trend in plant lighting. I definitely can see that happening as the COBs are the most efficient LED source currently for lumens/watt and offer virtually a full spectrum similar to a ceramic metal halide (LEC). Since I am growing completely new strains and I didn't run the COB's for the full grow I can't really say if there is any differences yet, but my next grow I will be running some familiar strains from early veg with the COB's so it will give me a much better view on how they perform. One thing I did notice is that the buds don't seem to be as frosty as with "blurple" lights, but I've never grown tangie before so its really hard to say if the lights or the strain were the sole factor in this. Other than that I haven't noticed any differences besides my plants loving the COBs.

I'm definitely very impressed with how things are turning out in this grow, shouldn't be too much longer until harvest. I'm thinking I may pull them this friday or possibly wait 1 more week to really get the trichomes amber I like that heavy feeling effect

Hey Everyone!

Day 70 of flowering is here.... I'm at a debate.... Should I or should I not pull them tonight??? hmmmm

I was looking at the plants and most of the plants have shown the white pistils turn brown and show that they are at the phase of being done with the exception of my tallest plant which really hasn't grown or done much over the past week or 2, but is still showing white pistils. All the other plants look ready so I will be doing some trichome photos in a bit to get a closer look of what is going on and I think I may decide tonight is the night, or give them maybe 1 or 2 more days.

Since the humidity will be up for the next week due to the heavy rain we are getting in socal it would be a great opportunity to harvest now with the elevated RH, where as of after sunday, I think we may get more offshore breezes which will dry out the air and drop the RH again... hmmmm, what to do

I gave the girls a watering yesterday of compost tea, which was pretty much just soil in a bag, bubbled for a few days with some humic acid and yucca extract in it to help the plant suck up anything it needed from the soil, but not to deliver any NPK in the final days of the grow.

Holy Moly Ice, BEAUTIFUL.

Chop time is such a personal thing, I like those amber trichomes too. Takes the edge off sativas and gets the most out of Indicas. I just love those baseball bats you got growing out the ground.

Yea its hard to say with these since I've never really smoked tangie before besides extract from the guy who gave me the beans so I don't know the strain well. I know the hermi I pulled a few weeks ago I have been smoking is extremely racy and uplifting, almost like a shot of expresso feeling so I'm hoping the extra time these got will help tone down the uppity feeling and bring a little more sedative effect as well. Hmmm decisions decisions..

Ok...so here are some trichome close ups...

Please excuse the somewhat blurry photos, its really hard to hold a 30x lupe up to my smartphone on zoom and get a clear shot...LOL

Probably a funny sight to watch though..hahah

The trichome close ups are followed by a bud shot of the bud they were taken from for identification. To me it looks like mostly cloudy with a few ambers and a few clears...Might actually be a good time to get them at peak THC.

The Deed has been done...Day 70 Harvest time!

I decided that it was time to take them down, after reviewing the plants growth traits and calyx's and pistils they had all the signs the plants were ready. I took photos of the trichomes and even though I slightly prefer about 15-25% amber but since the tangies were at pretty much the Peak of THC with most of the trichomes being cloudy, I decided over the couple week drying and curing that they should still have a fair amount of CBN as well for the couch lock feeling too.

So with each plant I cut the plant after taking multiple photos, and hung it inverted in my tent. I turned down the fans to low and the lower circulation fan off to slow down the airflow and keep the higher humidity for the drying period as my goal will be 60%RH for the first week of drying.

The plants will be dried until the buds lose about 85% of their weight and water and then will be trimmed and manicured and jarred.

Left more fan leaves than I'm used to seeing. We're getting closer to harvesting our first couple of girls, and my research into drying and curing is a bit behind schedule at this point.

Well I think mainly the overall test will be how they smoke, flavor, potency, effect and such. That will probably be the heaviest weight on my decision. I will be running 4 of them again to see if anything changes before I narrow it down further, which will actually take place in my next flowering session in a few weeks. Second to the overall smoke report/flavor/potency will be the look of the buds and trichome density which is important, some of the buds were really nice and uniform and some were really full of foxtails and sort of ugly, so that also will play a factor in my decision. Last and probably least important for me will be yield since they all seemed to be similar in that area, and I'm more of a weed snob than a cash cropper, weight is not a huge concern for me as I favor quality over quantity. Mostly that will be my main considerations when I pick a top 2 but a lot of it will also depend on how they flower under the "blurple" lights as well as from clone this next run
