Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spectrum

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Hey Everyone, Quick update:

Day 67 Flowering.

The plants continue to mature in flowering and are looking frostier by the day. I'm really excited for this harvest since my premature hermie tastes so good, I can't imagine how these will be. :)

Gave the girls a compost tea watering composed of 5 gallons of r/o water:

a paint strainer full of my cooking soil mixture
40ml of carboload
1 spoonful of azomite
1 spoonful of calcium carbonate
yucca extract
humic acid
humboldt nutrients bloom (soft rock phosphate)
Humboldt nutrients equilibrium
some bio vam sprinkled on top

I also put some in my spray bottle and sprayed all my vegging plants, but not my tangie tent in flowering. There so close to finish I don't want to spray them with anything, and haven't since early flowering.

My veg tent pretty much is just chugging along as well, not much to update on besides the foliar feeding I already mentioned and they will be getting a watering in a few days once needed of compost tea.

Here are some photos to enjoy :)

Nice Garden as always IM
Wanted to ask u about Plastic Pots your using. I love Root pouches but after 3 runs they are shot and have to spend hundreds on new ones every year
Are u running coco or soil?
u ever have any problems withem?

Heye DrCannabi!

The smells aren't coming out of the tent too much when closed, thankfully ;) but when open, a aroma of sweet cheesy citrus engulfs my room, very very fragrant :)

Hey JimmyIndy,

I like the 5 gallon plastics for the most part, the only sort of issue I have with them is the bottom 1/3 never seem to fully dry out so I've been considering drilling a few extra holes in them to allow for more airflow, and even thought about drilling them almost like an airpot. I do like fabric pots too, but just couldn't find the right size smartpots for doing 6 or 8 plants, but I did recently go out and pick up some 15 gallon ones that in the future I will be running again :) I know graytail uses the same pots and I would say they work well, just have to be careful with overwatering them.

I'm running Promix which is a peat based soil I believe. Not really "soil" and not coco, kind of inbetween :)

Re:pots ...

I had just noticed yours in your last update, as a matter of fact. :cheesygrinsmiley: Mine are a bit different at 6 gallons with a larger lips on 'em, making them 14.5 inches wide unfortunately.

But I put two plants in fabric posts supported by a crate, and both of these plants look weak. I'm wondering if it's not a watering issue. Maybe the outsides dry out unlike the plastic pots and I'm not used to compensating for that?

And I'm also uneasy about the amount of water my plastic ones get. You're nervous that the bottom stays moist. I'm nervous that I never seem to be able to get more than a gallon of water into a 6 gallon pot. From listening to others, I should be getting closer to 2 gallons of water. :hmmmm: But even for a wilted plant, if I water and then come back and water again later, the pot still won't take anywhere near 2 gallons.

I don' get it.

I drilled another dozen 1/4 holes around the bottoms of mine, and I never get perched water. :cheesygrinsmiley: When I pull the rootball I can see where water sat in the square molded feet, but there's never any sign of fat hydro roots or circling, just a thick entwined mass of fine roots. I have to literally tear it apart. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hugh, thats odd. :) I notice that my pots usually take about 4-6 cups of water to see runoff, however on most feedings I only give them 4 cups of water (kitchen cups) about every 3-4 days when in full veg/full bloom. Its odd though because the lower 1/3 of the pot seems to stay moist but the plants will show wilting like they need more water, and I get plenty of "water roots" so I don't know whats up. Usually when I remove my pots, I do see the same thing though, no circling of roots like round pots and lots of tiny fiberous roots.

I was thinking about drilling some small 1/4" holes in the lower portion of the pots to help dry them out a little quicker but haven't gotten around to it yet.

I ran fabric/smart pots only 2x, the first time was smaller 4 gallons smartpots and I had a humongous yield but i found its a pain to water them since the water wants to run out of the sides. I switched them out after 1 grow and only ran the large 15 gallon ones 1x.

Wow 2 gallons of water per pot, thats a lot of water!! Do you water 1x per week or how frequently are you watering. I typically am only doing about 2-4 cups of water every 3 days or so and it seems to be about right. Its taken me quite a few grows to really figure out this watering with these square pots but still think I could be doing better. My first few grows with the square pots I never would get roots past the 1/2 way point, but now they are growing much fuller, but still could be better. I'm curious about airpots but not ready to dump money on them yet since I have so many other pots on hand right now. Hmmm....

When I harvest I will try to remember to take some root ball photos to show how they did this grow.

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

I just did my watering and I used 12 gallons for 10 pots - 6 gallon pots - so 1.2 gallons each, before runoff starts. I could probably get another quart into each, if I come back and top them off later today - 1.5 gallons max. I've been trying to dial-in my watering better, too. :cheesygrinsmiley: Mine can go 4-5 days before they wilt, at 81/68 temps and 30-50 RH. I water with 16 oz cups, so lately I'll give 'em 3 cups between - 1.5 quarts - to keep 'em moist.

Yea I've been working on my watering too, a few grows ago I tried everyday watering but very low volume and with organics and teas it was a pain in the grass constantly making teas to have half go to waste, and I was doing waterings previous to that about 1x per 4 days but overwatering, so now I go with less volume but still about every 3-4 days. I typically wait until I see them wilting a little to water again but with the different strains and phenos it makes it hard to judge, where one plant 3 days later may be dry, where another may need an extra 2 days to dry... One of these days I will get it right :) I guess its best to underwater than overwater though :)

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Hi Ice and gray

I've been using fabric pots anywhere between 5 to 15 gallons since I started growing. I have settled on 7 gallon fabric pots as the best compromise between ease of use (moving full pots) and yield. Big difference going from 5 to 7 gal, but over 7 gals the yield increase isn't worth it to me.

When I'm in full flower or veg I water every other day with 1 gallon per plant. I used to use a moisture meter to tell me when to water but I'm pretty dialed in to 1 gallon every other day now. I always have a bucket of h2o bubbling for dissolved oxygen or an AACT brewing.

My soil drains very well and I use a saucer to catch the run off. It's usually absorbed within 5 minutes of watering. Once in a while a particularly large pheno may take an extra watering every now and then (my strawberries and cream current grow is one of those).

Not sure if this is helpful, but it seems along the lines of the problem. :Namaste:

Nice looking plants Icemud. Im looking forward to see these lights in action :rasta:

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

The saucer reminder helps. Thank you - I forgot about that. A lot of these guys are using saucers.

I keep looking around ... I need a 15 inch square pan, a couple inches deep - can't seem to find one. :hmmmm:

Until recently, I'd been letting my blooming girls dry out between waterings, but I decided that was a bad idea in a live soil. :laughtwo: So now, I try to catch them before they wilt, but with the dropping humidity, I've made some mistakes. The ones I've successfully kept moist have been much greener throughout bloom.

I see the same thing in the soil bin. Well-moistened soil keeps the biota happiest.

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

You're absolutely right gray! Keeping living soil moist is key for healthy roots and a thriving microbial biomass (= healthy plants).

Much respect, doc!

Looks like your buds have taken a liking to the COB lights. Have you found any drawbacks, downsides or oddities to using them yet?

Hey Snoop! Thanks my friend! Should be a really fun journal as we finish up these tangies and get right into the next grow's both veg and bloom with the budmasters :)

Hey Gray, I ended up finding some round trays that "almost" fit the square pots and just jammed them in, after a while the round saucers sort of squared out and seems to work ok for the most part. The bottoms of my pots are not completely flush with the bottom of the saucer, but its ok because then I know they are getting a little air underneath and not sitting in runoff :)

My humidity here in socal has been aweful for the past few months, usually around Thanksgiving its expected to be dry until right around the new year, but this year in september the dry spell started and still has been consistently 20% RH or lower. Definitely I has effected waterings for me too, seems that the plants suck up quite a bit of water with the dryness, which actually doesn't make as much sense as the stomata tycially close when the RH gets low... hmmm oh well, seems like this grow things have been going good so just going to keep chugging along with my chapstick in hand... (this dry weather is killing my lips) lol.
