Hypo Hippy's first indoor grow

Hey Hypo, I use molasses with every watering besides the nutes. I put about a TBSP in a gallon of water. My wife just found a deal on a 32 oz bottle for $9 bucks...best additive for the price hands down!!!

:peace:

(Edit : I stop at flush though)

Hi Mountain High,
Pardon my ignorance but what does molasses do? Is it used for carbs, sugar,&amino acid like Sweet and some of the other sugar additives?

If so have you tried it as a foliar spray?
Dutch Master ran some studies and concluded that very little carbs and sugars are absorbed by the roots and they recommend using their's and other enhancers like Liquid Light, Max Fx, Sweet, GH Nectar, etc as a foliar spray.
Your thoughts are much appreciated Amigo!:ganjamon:

Well I use it to feed the beneficial's not the plant, they stay healthy and productive turning my nutes into bio absorb-able food products for the plant. It is also all the cal and mag you will ever need and iron and sulphur even though you get unsulphured. The beneficial's break those simple plant sugars in molasses down into the building blocks the plant can uptake directly.

I seen the foliar line and gave it serious thought (especially the Penetrator / LL combo) but I do not have an adequate vegging space (or money) so I haven't tried tuning my grow that way.

Oh and my Blackstrap Molasses is $9 bucks for 32 oz at 1 TBSP per gallon, it is quite price effective. And since most organic nute manufacturers process the stuff to make their nutes, I figure adding it will be a safe way to keep most of the micronutes my plants need available. I do not have money for extensive nute product lines.

I am currently growing with EBAY nutes (Blue Mountain Organics). This second grow emptied a few key nutes from that line so for the sake of experimenting I am trying inorganic this third time with the Dutchmaster Gold line. I got my Clearex for a preventative de-salting regime.

If you are curious as to what my nuting does, you could check out my grow. I haven't been able to photo update the last couple weeks but soon.

This is Lilbit (she was a 3 week old seedling when she went into bloom). This is day 35 12/12.

Sorry for the photo intrusion Hypo. :sorry:

:peace: brother, and I do appreciate the advice, means you care :yahoo:. :ganjamon:

So basically it's jackin' up the microbial activity in the soil. Very interesting!

I use the Fox Farm line up without much thought paid to the microbes 'till now.
I've seen the compost teas that are supposed to help with microbes but they look like a bit of a messy hassle to make and use so I've never tried it but if a tbs of molasses does the same thing I'll give it a shot.
:thanks:

That's one good lookin' lady you got there!:yummy:

Yeah, organic nutes come only partially chelated and the rest of the nutrient value is trapped in long organic chains. The plant can't eat those. So they developed a beneficial parasitic relationship with fungus and bacteria in the soil. Nature does harmony, man fights that to try and improve it, makes me wonder why I am even trying inorganic this grow? :ganjamon:.

Yeah that would be the smoke talkin :yahoo:.

:peace: brother. (And thanks for the compliment about Lilbit, I am so very happy with her. It amazes me what nature is capable of, that is only a 56 day old plant.)

Social Smoker........yo hypo hippy nice grow .. ...looks like youve got the leaf curling figured out good job +rep those ww must b sativa dominate "skinny fan leaves"

Social Smoke...thanks for the reps man. Yeah it seems that something we did fixed it. Not sure if it was the repotting, the dolomite lime, or the soil additives. Or simply that they dried out some overnight. Whatever it was helped. I am guessing the widows are sativa-dominant that is why we want to breed in some of the indica-dominate genes that Donald has...Fat ass, huge sun leaves and squatty, bush-like growth habit.

Southern W....thanks my man, appreciate you keeping an eye on our grow.

MountainH....as always thanks for dropping by and sharing some of your outstanding plant biology knowledge on our grow thread. Digging it! I was wondering what the molasses did since I couldn't figure out how a plant was going to use the sugars and now it makes perfect sense to me....Thanks!

OrangeB...Thanks to you too for hanging out and facilitating...lol I have been gone all day and out of pocket.

LeaveW...thanks for the +reps bro! Yeah I wish she would do her thang. She is being stubborn, but to tell the truth no news is good news I am guessing. The boys didn't mess around showing their nads. Matilda looks exactly like Lucille so keeping the fingers crossed.

Thanks again gents!

Grower5280...Thanks for the +reps my good man! Seriously, thanks for stopping by. This site and the other grow journals have been indispensible to us for our first attempt at indoor growing.

mistook curling for wilting I guess. It does look like wilting

Think you stated problem went away after transplanting?

Could it have been too much nitrogen? Could have been building up in the soil, then when you repotted into fresh soil there was no longer an over-abundance of nitrogen built up?

TS...could be just about anything. The leaf curling hasn't completely gone away. To tell the truth, it may just be that this is the pheno that these plants exhibit. Hard to say, but your hypothesis is probably as good as any. Thanks for stopping by...everything cool your way?

Well another one bites the dust! Matilda chose her fate today by showing the giblets and she and her brothers were put to the blade. We were going to try our hand at doing some breeding with Donald and Lucille, but decided that it wasn't worth the effort to maintain two growing areas and run the risk of the plants being inadvertently fertilized by stray pollen. Damn!!!!!!!! Oh well, at least we have plenty of space in the grow room...lol. The last remaining plants...Lucille and Gladys are looking great. I will post some pics tomorrow.

Well one thing is certain...I have learned alot from this grow. I have also learned not to jump to conclusions about sex until it is legit. We are going to clone some from the girls and try to carry on the genes.

No schitt! I went from thinking I was going to be overcrowded with five females to poking my bottom lip out with only two! lol. Anyhow, it is what it is, now we got to get after it with these two lovely ladies and make the most out of it, right? Are you growing again 3L or are you still in fear of the gendarme?

Wood....Yeah that's what we were thinking too. Count yer blessings, right? Grower5280...you are a mind reader. That's precisely what we are doing. Gonna try to maximize the minimum, so to speak.

Clear plastic bag?

Can always switch to 24 hours light for a while. Most likely they will go right back to vegetative growth and allow you to fill more of your screen before flowering.

Small chance of pushing a latent hermie out into the open from the slight stress - but you'd be better off knowing one had tendencies as early as possible anyway.

Absolutely make the most of it :thumb:

I will be again v soon amigo, it was an added incentive to move home anyway and I've now sorted somehwere and hopefully moving this week and starting again again again again lol

TS....thanks for the advice. I think we are going to stick with the 12/12 regimen since we are already about two weeks into it and the girls are flowering like crazy. What do you mean about the clear plastic bag? We are going to take some cuttings for cloning real soon and hope to have some success there.

3Lions....glad to hear you will be back in business soon. Good luck.

What do you mean about the clear plastic bag?

Was just thinking that in lieu of running two separate areas, pollen won't get through a plastic bag. Would need to have any male flowers securely bagged before they opened. (I wouldn't think it would be too healthy to have them bagged too long but IDK for sure.)
