Hypo Hippy's first indoor grow

You may want to raise the PH and try to sweep the ranges 6.3-6.8.. You may be seeing the beginning signs of locking out mag. Keep an eye on them and don't stress... You are in good hands here... :ganjamon:

I think I'll be paying attention to this issue as I may be in the same boat. Also getting a soil pH like 6.0 - 6.3 and the plant's seem a little too limp.

You are certainly no dumbass - just running into the same problem when dealing in a new arena - the vocabulary of the industry. Many times in a new job in a new industry, i didn't know the industry vocabulary. I don't know the parts of the MJ plant, a limitation for sure.
I think we have a new descriptor - raptor claws! Let's add it to the MJ grow dictionary.

Thanks for chiming in guys.

Be Irie...thanks for stopping by an checking out our grow. We welcome and appreciate any/all help. Yesterday when we repotted to the 5 gal buckets we added @3-4 Tbs of Dolomite Lime to the new soil of each plant in an effort to help raise the pH. The filtered water we use on the plants is running @6.8-7.0 before we add nutes. The crazy thing is these plants have exhibited these same traits from an early age. It has just been compounded by the HPS lights and the new stretchy flowering-type growth. (my hypothesis)

TigerB...you like that? "Raptor Claws." Sounds pretty cool and to tell the truth it is about the most accurate way I thought of to describe this situation. Have any of your plants ever looked like this?

Wood....as always I appreciate you checking in and welcome your inputs.

On a positive note, Lucille is starting to pop out pistils all over the place. Gladys still has a couple, but it is weird how these preflowers are here and clearly visible one day and pretty much gone the next. I hope we will know for sure what the real deal is in the next few days or so.

Update on our babes.....watered and fertilized this morning and they are all looking good. As I posted last night, we only transplanted three of the five and all three looked real nice this morning. Fed them Big Bloom, Open Sesame, Happy Frog Bat guano, and two drops of SuperThrive. Also added a weak solution of Grow Big since we are kinda behind the power curve on Nitrogen. I screwed up when I bought my Grow Big and got the hydro version so it is weak to begin with (compared to the soil version).

The runoff from the new pots (with the dolomite lime added) was at 6.8. Sounds kinda high, but expect it to drop as the lime wears off.

Nice grow man ! Not sure what to make of the curling, but I have seen it happen on a few of my buddies grows and it didn't make too much of a difference on the output. I am tuned in to see how this all turns out.

Thanks man...we are having fun. It will be nice to finally figure out what each of our babes are. Be cool.

I've experienced your plants problems before and I believe it comes from one of three things.

Overwatered or there is poor drainage causing a toxic sludge to develop in the bottom of the container.

There is something toxic with the water or nutes used.

PH is too low causing a lock up. I run soil gardens in the 6.5 to 7 range. Soil ph is more foregiving than hydro so there is a broader range to work with but you never want to go below the low 6's.
My cure is to transplant to a bigger and better pot and water with bottled spring water for the first few waterings.

OB...thanks for stopping by. We have one of the high dollar pH testers and the water going in and the water coming out is within the "acceptable" tolerances. Did add lime to help raise it even more just to be safe. The soil we are using drains really well and because I am kinda anal about that stuff we added an additional 25% perlite to the mix. When we transplanted we added about 2 inches of pea gravel to the 5 gal buckets and drilled a bunch of 1/2 inch holes on the bottom and the sides to facilitate proper drainage.
The water we use is Brita-filtered and then sits for at least a day in the grow room.

Nutes are FF and used at 1/2 rate from the get-go. So believe me I have thought the same things you have and hopefully have taken the necessary precautions to either fix or alleviate the problems (I hope)

Thanks again and I hope that this transplant does the trick....

:goodluck:Good luck!
When you pull them out of the buckets get a good look at the roots at the bottom of the ball. If they're coiled you can gently loosen them by working them free so they spread out in the new container. They should be a white or blond color. If they're dark brown or black there is some root rot goin on. Also get a good sniff of that root ball. it should smell earthy and rich. If there is a sewer like smell there is a sludge causing toxins to develop.:goodluck::popcorn:

Yeah the roots were beautifully white and blond-looking like you say. We were joking that they smelled good enough to smoke...lol. They were wrapped all over the place and we did exactly like you said. Transplanted them yesterday afternoon and they are looking good today.

OrangeB....thanks again for stopping in. I truly appreciate everybody's hints and techniques. By the way, nice grow yourself. Nice strawberries too...lol

Well boys and girls.....another member of the Hippy clan has been excommunicated to the auxiliary growing facility (the armoire). Damn, more ballsack confirmations! Broomhilda has joined Donald (aka Daisy) in the remote spot.....fates to be decided at a later date. Donald will be raised at least until he gives up some of the goods to be used on the girls. So now the score is two confirmed girls and two confirmed boys with the lone question mark being Matilda. All her calyx' are non-committal right now being almost asexual. Fingers crossed that she joins Lucille and Gladys in the sorority.

Photo update for the evening....here are the two aforementioned males that have been sequestered. Trimmed 'em up a little to fit better in the armoire (I mean grow cabinet...lol) Anyhow, they are living on borrowed time....gonna harvest some plant spunk to fertilize one of our widows.

If you saw the last pics I posted of these girls they look a TON better than they did two days ago before we repotted to the 5 gal pots and added the dolomite lime.....whew!

Very good they look much better! What a relief, right!:thumb:

Outstanding recovery!:yummy:
Transplanting can be an amazing cure for alot of problems. Whenever I'm in doubt, I transplant.
As for them dudes that decided to rear their ugly head, well my cure for that is a 12 gauge!:loopy:

That is pretty funny. Make no doubt, they are goners. I do want to get some pollen from Donald because he is the most vigorous, bushy, badass plant in the bunch. Surely those traits, coupled with the legendary widow potency (or whatever it is that makes the widow so popular) will produce some bodacious progeny.....right? Anyhow, we are going to try our hand at cloning and a little breeding this go-around. Thanks for dropping by my man! :peace:out

Question for the peanut gallery.....after you start 12/12, how often do you feed your plants molasses? What dosage? Every watering or what interval? Thanks in advance for your replies.

HH, to bad about the guys...but harvest all the pollen you can get from Donald, sounds like he's carrying some good breeding traits.

Doing a great job here...keep it up.

Hey Hypo, I use molasses with every watering besides the nutes. I put about a TBSP in a gallon of water. My wife just found a deal on a 32 oz bottle for $9 bucks...best additive for the price hands down!!!

:peace:

(Edit : I stop at flush though)

yo hypo hippy nice grow .. ...looks like youve got the leaf curling figured out good job +rep :peace::ganjamon: those ww must b sativa dominate "skinny fan leaves":nicethread:
