Hydro Coco Quasi Hempy Grow

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Cool stuff with the Hubby T!
Doobies or Lefthanders as I like to call 'em are my thing. I think it goes back to when I smoked cigs. I quit cold turkey and never picked up another for 10 years now but I still get the fix from holding & burning a lefty. I'm also a pipe guy big time, especially during the day. At night the crazy glass & vape comes out. I'm still learning with the vape though. The high is just so much more intense it can really wreck me if I over do it.:tokin:

It was on my last journal when I first showed it off. Seems like one big long party right? :grinjoint:

I've noticed that bud I vaporize gives me a different "high". Much less paranoia sorts of feelings with the vaporizer. I much prefer the high, overall (of my SSV), but it's different enough that it's fun to switch up, too and break out the bong. I really notice the paranoia feelings with my bong, now. RoorRip

Got abit of catching up to do here. Just tuned in. Hey yellow index cards with Vaseline smeared on it will catch gnats or least say if ya still got a problem. Pretty looking glass. I see alot of people look the glass but to me it gets to hard to keep it good looking glass, hense all my glass is ugly old glass. And I'm not kidding but thats a sharp looking vap. hey Bandit I'm going to back track afew pages here. Hey I might be right back but if I don't Keep em Green.

Happy to see you here Norcaliwood!
I've been a big fan of your outdoor beauties for a while now!
Outdoor organics is where my roots are so watching growers like you, OMM, & Woodsman work your magic is special for me.
Much respect to you! :Namaste:

I think the difference for me is a lefty is a laid back woohoo high and the ssv is like a rocket launch into orbit leaving me weightless but full of intriguing thought :tokin:

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Well I decided to go ahead with a soil drench to put the nails in the coffin on these gnats. I've been debating on what to use and then I remembered the SNS products that are given away here to contest winners.
So now my plan is to go thru all my colas in cure and hopefully pick a winner that can get me the SNS goodies which include SNS 203 ~ the drench for gnats, thrips, and other bugs. Since I get thrips from time to time too I think that might be the perfect solution for me.
Just in case my notm falls short of victory I went ahead and ordered a small bottle of SNS 203 this morning. It's being shipped priority so hopefully by Monday my garden will be 100% gnat free! :cheertwo:

Huge thanks to 420 for having the contests each month and 420 sponsor SNS for giving all of us growers a shot at some freebies! :high-five:

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

hey bandit i was reading up today
that is a cool vape
i noticed you talkin about gnats, sounds like you'll have them under control
i just thought i'd add some of my experience with them
i used gognats and it doesn't seem to get rid of them unless used with something else
have you heard of mosquito dunks? we had gnats in a lot of our house plants and i grabbed some of those from the hardware store ground them up and toppdressed the plants with it also mixed some in water when we watered them it has BTi in it an organism that targets the larvae stage same as gnatrol
nematodes help a lot also
thats what i have experienced with them anyway i'm sure you got em though
take it easy:Namaste:

Excellent post wohlichen! I have mosqito dunks on hand right now for my garden pond!! I think I'll use those on the avacado and use the SNS on the Kush! The gnats seem to be really attracted to standing water in the avacado catch tray. I'll grind up some dunks for both the top dressing and to put in the catch tray. Hit 'em high and hit 'em low! :)

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

yeah the dunks work it takes 10 to 14 days for a bad infestation i'd say
i havn't used the sns 203 but have thought about it i'll be interested to see what you have to say about it i'm sure they would work well together also

Yeah I'm curious too... I think I might be one of the first to use it with coco. My first move will be to only use it on one plant and just spray the top of the coco so it repels the little buggers. If they persist I'll go ahead and drench the coco on one plant. If all goes well and it's needed then the entire garden will get a drench treatment.
A curious thing i was noticing is that they prefer the avacado. I dont know if it's because it's soil and the Kush is in coco or what. I can tell they're trying to colonize the avacado but they just fly around the cannabis not really trying to set up shop in the coco like they are the soil.
It looks like they want to get into the avacado from the bottom holes on the pot. Since the coco garden has no bottom holes that could also be preventing them from really taking hold idk.
I think once I knock them out of the avacado they'll be history :high-five:

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Covering the top of your medium might help? I've only had run in with them when you got alot of mosture around also taking a fork and turning the top soil over should help. I like them turbo gardens myself. I was going to buy a larger hydro setup myself but I been leaning toward the euro grower. man the price tag on those units gone thru the roof the last couple years. I think I rememeber a 450$ price tag awhile back on them. Now over 600$ I like the fact the units never run dry completely. I have a friend using a fogger system with the same pots. He has fog watering his plants. They say thats the easiest way for a plant to uptake fert's. Cool sounding system tho. Seems ya got alot going on in that 10X10' room. I need to go back alittle future to see what you are lighting with. I see you got a t-55 unit from htg on your mother plants. What are you flowerin under? I started with one of them when I was growing back in Mo. I added a 150 watter hps and acouple 42 watter cfl's, to round of my mini flower room. I did grow acouple nice church's under in. And I was using cardboard boxes to make my first grow boxes I had back there. Hey this is a fact, Mo still has life without the posiblity of parole on the books for a large scale grow. Not that they use it, but even murder, short of 1st degree has a parole option. But then some states still have laws against haveing sex with sheep on them. Keepem Green

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

i had a little avacado tree i actually grew from a seed i never thought it would pop up but it did we threw it out a while back because they did seem to go after that thing
kind of funny
they do like to go in the drain wholes those buckets probably help alot
and i do think they like soil more
thats one reason why i am trying the coco out now because it seems i've had nothing but soil bug problems
its had to pin down were they come from...maybe the soil FF i bought who knows

so far i like the coco its a little different then soil but i think i'll get the hang of it
just the ph is a little different then i'm used too

I like the covering idea...That's what I've been trying with the sticky traps but I need another 5 pack so every plant has at least one trap.
I really like the TurboGarden. It's somewhere between the Micro and the Euro as far as size. It's perfect for vegging up to about 12 plants and it can take 4-6 30" plants to harvest. They are very expensive but I found mine used for only $100. No way could I buy a new one for $300+. Check Craiglist & Fleabay for used models. I like Craiglist because I can haggle the seller 'till his ears bleed :)

My bloom cab is lit up with two 430 watt son agro lights and two 4' long 2 bulb t5ho lights. This is by far the best lighting array I've come up with for this cab...

lol. There's a few states that I refuse to set foot in and MO is one of them. Kentucky & Tennessee are a couple more that are just way too crazy with the laws they have. There's Bandit repellant all over the place in those three states :smokin:

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

The gnats go in those bottom holes and lay eggs, the larva then feed on the roots. Turn into gnats then crawl out those bottom holes. Put some pantyhose on the pot and then drench, let the pot sit in 4-5 inches of water. You will kill tons in certain stages. What will happen is in cycles. You will have to keep treating every 3-5 days, as the eggs start hatching again. The ones that are flying around dont hurt anything til they are ready to lay eggs. The larva stage is what does the damage. :goodluck:

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

May you rain fire and brimstone on all gnats entering the holiest of holy's. :) (the grow room) Then put on cheech and chong's up in smoke and let cheech sing " Keep on knockin but you cant come in" to those filthy larva laying pests. :allgood:

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Today the co2/temp/rh meter finally got here and I'm glad it did! It's providing some very interesting info...

From what I'm finding, because of the way my home is heated, I dont need to run any co2 when I have the heat on.
We dont have cental heating. My home is heated by a vent free natural gas fireplace. It burns 99.9 percent of the gas it uses. The .1% of emissions is co2. Basically it's a massive co2 generator :)
I've always been curious as to whether or not the co2 it produces concentrates in the main living room or does it creep into the grow room if I leave the door open. Not only does it creep in but it does so in huge volumes!
With the fireplace running wide open co2 ppms are in the 2500-3000 range in different spots around the house.
This is the reading I'm getting in the bloom cab...

IMG_15462.JPG

Since the co2 concentrations are so high when I have the fireplace on I'm keeping the exaust running as usual and I'm also injecting fresh air into the room to thin out the gas. I'm probably the only grower on the planet that has to deal with excessive co2 :)
I think now I know why I have my best gardens in February/March and why these ladies are growing at such a fast rate. During the Summer grows the garden always grows a bit slower and yields less. Now i know it's because that's when the fireplace is never on. This year I'll have the tank system injecting the gas so I should see good consistent hauls regardless of it being Winter or Summer

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Some more interesting #s...

The Eva Dry or I Dry as they're called in Europe does indeed work well!

Before I got the ED the rh in the bloom cab was usually a few points above the rh in the enitire room and would be at about 55-65%

With the ED installed the rh is down in the 30-40% range and is about 10 points below the rh in the rest of the room.

The co2 intake of the garden is kind of intriguing too. With the fireplace on it does'nt take but a few minutes to bring the room from around 550ppm to around 2500ppm. So basically before i went to bed (my lights run at night) I opened the door for a couple minutes and watched the co2 levels soar to 2500ppm. I closed the door and let it roll like that thru the night. 8 hours later I returned to check the numbers and the co2 ppm only dropped to 1600ppm. Now that lights are off and the room is sealed up with only the exaust running for 15 minutes every hour the co2 is at about 900ppm.

For my next move I'm going to raise the lights to about 8" above the canopy ( right now they're at 4") and I'm going to reset the thermostat to 85 instead of 80 to see if i can push the ladies even harder to inhale more gas and eat more food.

I have the ED & monitor mounted near the top of the canopy to take readings and eliminate odor & humidity at the cola level
