Hydro Coco Quasi Hempy Grow

The Eva Dry Mini Dehumidifer

Good news to report on the Eva Dry folks!
It super ez to use...It simply hangs in the garden. It has a guage with blue beads in the window. When those beads turn pink the device is full of moisture. To rechrage it, it simply plugs into an outlet and it's ready to go when the beads turn back to blue.
I have'nt checked humidity readings but i already notice a significant drop in odor.
My garden was starting to stink bad smelling like skunks having a party or something. I have two diy odor control buckets and an ONA Breeze device but they were still being overwhelmed with stink. One day after the Eva Dry was hung the stink started to go down. This morning I could'nt even smell the garden! :slide:

So far I'm impressed with the thing. Yesterday I ordered a really nice air quality monitor that will tell me temps, humidity, and co2 ppm of the air. Once I have the monitor I'll really be able to tell how well it drops humidity.

Hey Bandit, Im still along in the shadows...ur an inspiration no doubt:thumb:
I just finished my new diy tent and I got me one of the idry dehumidifier that u have, I also got 2 of their bags to try out too in my drying room....lets see if they do as they claim:)

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Is your eva dry the mini or one of the others? Sounds like it might be a good product.

High Tmac!
It's the mini.... model # E-333. Supposed to be effective for a space up to 333 cubic feet. My bloom cab is only 168 cubic feet so the theory is that this unit should have no problem handling it's business in the bloom cab. :smokin2:

It has stated uses for boats, homes, rv, computer work areas, gun safes, closets, camera storage, filing cabinets, and much more. "Much more" = cannabis farms imo :)

Wow Bass! You're too cool! I've been called a lot of things in my life but this may be the first time I've been called an inspiration. :)
Much respect back to you my friend!! :Namaste:
One of my favorite things is trying out new gear and letting other growers know if it works or not. Like the Air Pot venture I'm glad you can join in on this one too!
These things could be a tremendous help for growers. They might have so many advantages over traditional dehumidifiers it's crazy. If we can eliminate humidity without using any power and without creating the heat dehumidifiers are notorious for, well it could revolutionize grow room set up from here on out! Not to mention the $ savings considering dehumidifiers can cost a couple hundred dollars where as this thing was only $20! :high-five:

Rewiring a Diamond ballast to accept Sun System light cords

A couple weeks ago I scored a new old stock 430 watt Diamond ballast.
Before they went out of business Diamond was the cat's meow when it came to ballasts back in the 90's and earlier. They are true work horses built to last decades. I know of a Diamond 1000 watt ballast that's been running since 1986. That's the kind of reliabilty you can find in a Diamond.
Unfortunatley the cord inputs on Diamonds dont match Sun System or Hydrofarm light cords. In order for me to use this beast I had to make some modifications....
The only part needed is a Hydrofarm/SS adapter that has a SS female input.
Tools needed are a flat tip screw driver, wire snips/strippers, and a pair of pliers.

Diamond 430 before modification

Diamond 430 guts before modification. Not many parts here...We have the big magnet part, a capacitor, and an ignitor. The mag will practically last forever but if the ignitor or capacitor go out, you can see how they would be very ez to replace. This is why i've never gone for the digitals. Having a capacitor & ignitor on hand in case of failure ensures that I can keep my lights on if I cant get to the shop for parts. I also dont need to wait on return shipping or warranty claims in case of a failure. :slide:

Hydrofarm/SS adapter and the original input from the Diamond is disconnected at the cone connectors and removed from the ballast.

IMG_15024.JPG

The Hydrofarm part of the adapter is cut away, the wiring is exposed, and the ends are stripped back for connection

IMG_15032.JPG

The adapter is then hardwired into the ballast the same way the original input was wired up.

When it's finished the only way to tell it was modified is that the input is now black instead of white. Now it's ready to accept the Melonhead light cord without any risk of danger or fire! ;)

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Thanks Guys!!
This rewiring of a magnetic ballast can be done to any off brand or diy mag ballast.
These things are very ez to build...With hi quality American made parts a mag ballast can be built that is just as good if not better than anything Hydrofarm or Sun System has available.

Agreed! A couple of catalogs (I like Granger and Mouser Electronics), you can pretty much get anything built. Add a Uline catalog, and you're pretty set ;)

Re: Bandit420's Hydro Coco A GoGo

Hey Bandit were you reading my thread when I got the wrong ballast setup, I got a ballast kit?

I'm debating paying for shipping to return it or else trying to make it useable. I think you'd be able to at least let me know what I'd be looking at if I opted to keep it. It's on p 63 of my thread if you get a chance to check it out. Thank you!

Just saw it Bro and all i can say is i hate crap like that!
What you got is only 2 pieces to a 5 piece puzzle. I would send it back or keep it for parts for another ballast. More so send it back and make sure they send you a complete kit.
By mounting it they mean you need a steel plate to bolt all the parts down and for the ground wire mount.
With that kit it looks like your missing both the power & light cords and the capacitor. Not having all the parts is what's making it confusing to build a kit like that.

For a wiring diagram I can pop open my spare, take some pics like I did the Diamond but add diagram graphics to the wiring nest.
