Hempy Headquarters

Just as I have found that soaking my seeds for 24 hours in my tap water and planting in their final pot works best for me, I do water with ¼ strength daily. Or, I am too lazy to transplant. :ganjamon:

Your method likely causes you to have better seedling growth, of that I have no doubt. Mine are slow growing until they hit the big reservoir. After that they generally explode with growth.

I am actually speaking strictly about germination. If the seedling is to be grown in hempy it is transplanted into a 1 gallon pot on the 4th day after sprouting. On a side note Ganja you've got me looking to find some sativa strains (never grew a sativa) and try flipping them to 12/12 after 2 weeks. I just can't get those big single colas out of my head and have to try to grow some.

Wife and I are going to chuck sativa pollen on our next run. Tent is starting too have a lot of unused space, so that run is coming up soon...

I like this idea. Hmmm, I will add it to my things to try list.

I've been on the hunt for a pure sativa as well. I love that heady high that i fondly remember from my younger years. Closest I've found so far is a Purple Haze by G13 labs. Its really spacey and a beautiful plant as well. I finally grabbed some pics of my girls They're about 20 days old from seed (give or take a day) and they already smell delicious. The GSC is the only one that got a little droopy from the transplant. It's been a droopy plant from the start tho.

I've been on the hunt for a pure sativa as well.
I ordered some pure sativa seeds from a seed bank in Hawaii. The jury is still out on their gear. And for me they were quite costly but I was after something I remembered as a kid in the early 70s. My hopes are riding on this plant.

I have a plant that droops every single night about 8pm. It's an outdoor plant now but did it even when inside. How tall are those white containers, Lazarus?

Yeah, the last time i grew them they were the same way. I had to go back and check my notes to confirm it. Plus this is right before lights on and they do perk up nicely when the sun comes up in the closet. They are sativa leaning gsc's and the feeling is almost what im after for my head. Maybe if i can cross the gsc with the haze it'll get me there. Lol
Those buckets are probably between 18" and 2' tall. I mixed the top 5 or 6 inches with about 2 cups of vermiculite to help keep some moisture higher up and so far it seems to be doing the trick.

I tried straight perlite 2ft tall 6"wide PVC pots. I didn't get the moisture needed up top and roots didn't feather out until the roots hit the 1ft-ish level.
When I get feisty and experimental again, I'll give your verm top a try.
Thanks baby!

I decided to try hempy in the first place from following your rambling adventures so it's nice to be able to repay the favor in some small way... So, you're welcome baby!

Dats how it works baby! You put your finger directly on the magic created purely by open communications.
I've been pondering the traditional verm/perl mix in the 2ft form with pea gravel in the bottom up to the drian hole. My thought process behind the gravel is simply to address the long drain time in 2ft pots.

I just harvested a small Cheese plant I had growing outdoors. It was due to be harvested on Thursday. We've been getting rain almost every day for 3 or 4 days with very high RH. This morning I found a very small area of bud rot starting. So I cut the plant a few days early as out weather is forecast is not supposed to change. Anyway, the photo below is why I now wash my buds well prior to bagging them up and putting them in the fridge to dry. Not just all the crap floating on top, but the water is more cloudy then you can really see in the photo

This is my first attempt at a Hempy Bucket. I started with a solo cup with a 50 / 50 mix of perlite and promix. About 10 days after it sprouted I moved it in to the 1.5 gallon bucket filled with just perlite. The strain is SODK auto from Mephisto Genetics. It seemed slow to get going, but has taken of in the past week. She is a little over 4 weeks old.

The SODK is still chugging along in the hempy bucket. Here she is at day 45 from sprout.

That's a great looking plant, NEKVT!!

What I couldn't help noticing is that the pot nekvt has his/her plant in is not light proof yet the plant is doing quite well. So is it a myth that the pot has to totally block the light or the roots won't flourish? What would happen if you were to grow a plant in a clear plastic container? These are the questions @Tead asks himself all the time.

What I read is algae can build up, which supposedly isn’t really a big deal except the algae eats nutes and can stink. It probably also leaves your roots more susceptible to problems. I use black plastic paint pails and I still get a bit of algae. I suspect that with hempy that the constant flushing of the reservoir helps prevent too many problems.

Let me correct you just one small bit.....
Tead knows the answer and no longer ponders the question.
It's not totally obvious from the photo.. but I know that there are not roots growing along the container. When roots get exposed to light, they turn woody and green over time. I get huge roots up to the edges of my lightproof PVC pots. One might be loosing quite a bit of growing area really if you call it 1/2in.

I bet I got a photo somewhere.....

Note the 2 fresher bodies on the left side of the photo. These are both showing full root action right to the edge of the pot.

editing to add....

Note the root-free zone near the top of the plants. This is the normal dead zone from full lights.
