Hempy Headquarters

I'm still shaking my head.
If I were in control of this site, I would be forced to change your moniker to "Mr. 3230" for at least one day.... just sayin.
:slide:

Magic Jim, He's so Hot!

Just a little outside of my pay grade but I'll be Mr. 3230 for a day. I may even wear a colorful bandana when I drop the top this morning on my ride out into the country.

I'm not certain that the Osmo + was the only culprit in the high reading. The Miracle Grow perlite that I used in that first ever hempy thingy wasn't washed with wind or water. So all the watering and such for 7 days probably wouldn't have dissolved that much of the nutes. More likely the meter was electronically confused by dregs and fine particles of perlite in the reservoir.

When I refreshed the perlite in the hempy yesterday, I left about 3/4 inch to 1 inch of that mess in the reservoir area. I have all intention to measure, flush a little, and measure again today to get a comparison.

Yesterday was a rough day as my wake n bake was Blue Dream mixed with Panama. Don't do this! You have been warned.

Very nice there Mr. 3230!

I wouldn't give the MG perlite much credit for the high numbers. It probably contributed some minor percentage, but I'm not sure it would even be noticed. Their bag reports an NPK of .07-.07-.07.

So... mixing indicas and sativas ehhh? That's Tead's favorite trick. Always hunting for a better mix. I've been using UltraDog and OGK as my indica components and Blue Dream and Critical+2.0 as the sativa bits. Fun.

Malawi and afghani make an excellent mix. It can be a bit on the debilitating side. 😁 the mix of flavors using the purple pheno is incredible.

Hey guys and gals, anyone experience these types of symptoms from their hempy plants? I'm experiencing the same symptoms on both plants so it must be some type of nuts or pH issue, I'm just hoping someone with more experience can pinpoint this problem before I go messing with everything. I know there's an abundance of nitrogen which was coming from the gh grow. I've stopped using the grow but it's only been one watering. Water has been pH'd to 5.8 every watering.

Is there any more information I can include to help diagnosis?

I'm loving this thread! I know I've been a lurker but it's hard to contribute when everyone else is so much more knowledgeable .

As always thanks to anyone who takes the time to read and reply :)

My seedlings also seem to be upset with me. Can you see the leaf serrations curling?

420-magazine-mobile679342561.jpg

I ignore it when this happens with mine. I get concerned if it continues to other leaves. Be careful to sterilize any cutting tools before you jump from one plant to another until you're sure it's nothing.

Drogon, what I'm seeing is a combination of nutrient splash (the yellow spots on the leaves, some along the edges) and nutrient burn in the tips, which is what we watch for to tell us to lighten up just a tad. The leaf curl isn't pronounced enough that it would concern me in my garden. We're not growing specimens with long lifelines, and a certain amount of "off the edge" can be tolerated.

Your plants look wonderfully healthy to me. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Hey sue, thanks for the re-assuring words :)
What do you mean by nutrient splash? Is this meant literally, like I've been accidentally getting nute water on the leaves? I guess I'll have to start making small adjustments to my nutrient mix. With the seedlings, all 6 are affected to some degree, I definitely won't be making any cuts until I figure that out .

Hello Sue, Tead and the rest of the fine 420Mag folks!

I've been running around like a kid since retirement, and haven't had too much spare time to spend on this world class site. I just got a two week break, devoid of gigs and music, so I'm taking this time to reacquaint myself with wanderings of Sue and her clan. Sue, you really helped wan me with making Oil for my son with NF1, it has helped his symptoms and his daily life, thanks again. Still dialing in the Oil methods and dosages, but I don't mind being a guinea pig, he certainly doesn't either!

So ... "Hempy" huh? Never knew there was a term for growing weed in straight perlite! Of course there is ... it's the 21st century and the Internet exists! After reading through Teads (WhereYat Brah?) :thumb: and Doc Buds perlite grows, I was happy to see it's progressing and filtering through modern day growers. Great job Tead and Doc Bud with the perlite grows! My parents owned and operated a Nursery when I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, and part of my chores included helping at all things inherently plant related. I guess making a kid shovel horse crap, vegetative waste and turning it every couple of days would be child abuse nowadays, but alas, I came away relatively unscathed and not scarred.:thumb:

My Dad would freak at what kids don't have to do to contribute to the family today, but that just shows my age!:lot-o-toke:

My Mom was a true mother of the earth woman, and could grow and propagate just about plant God put on earth. She really made the magic happen at their nursery, Dad was more of the "run the business" kinda guy, but he was still had an agriculture degree from LSU. My Mom used perlite for just about everything, she always had huge burlap bags of the stuff in the supply shed. She used it to propagate seed, take cuttings (cloning), divide perennials, and for just about anything. African Violets, Orchids, all kinds of plants, she nurtured and grew in perlite. Since it was New Orleans, and we weren't too far from the French Market, she had access to a vast variety of products that the port received. She made her own fertilizers for the perlite, I wish I had paid attention to that process but I was young and it was work and chores, so I didn't delve into what today seems to be called "teas". Dumb ass kid ...

Anyway, I have been growing weed in soil, perlite and a few other substrates since I went indoors with growing in 1982, just had enough of worrying about prison in the deep south! It truly was always for myself and friends, and never for sale purposes. But the law didn't care one bit about the intentions of the grower, just the product. I've long since relocated to a legal area so those concerns have abated. For many years I grew in perlite using just MG and aquarium air pump in the bottom of the pot. If it was bad, someone should have told me! No one that accepted my gifts ever complained! It seems MG is like Satan to most folks, and I get the Monsanto haters, I'm not a fan either. Of course I rolled with the times and now use the current lineups of nutrients available. I do run soil and Perlite (hempy) next to each other in the tent, and enjoy most every aspect of producing plants. I think Tead and Doc Bud have it covered with "Hempy" ... I still am trying to find the source of that word as it relates to soiless MJ growing! I don't know that i have anything to offer, just wanted to check in with you fine folks and say hello!

Happy "Hempy" to all!

Well there you are stranger. :hugs::hugs::hugs: Good to see you around the threads again. Retired life is bliss, is it not? :cheesygrinsmiley:

Are you growing anything in perlite at the moment Keith? You have me thinking about starting seeds in perlite again. I'll he pulling out the notes I was taking and looking more closely. I've been starting my seeds in plugs and then burying them in perlite, which works, but I'm curious as to whether or not I can learn to do it without the plugs. I enjoy the challenge. Lol!

I'm glad to hear your son is doing well. Tell him I'm making good use of the thermometer. :hugs:

I almost forgot why I stopped here. :laughtwo:

I was out wandering through the local Dollar General, feeling like something was calling me. Then, on the "Last Chance" shelf I found it. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Sue,
I do love retirement! I get to say when I start and stop, and what I do, what's not to love about no more boss?
OK, I still have my wifey boss, but we usually work as a team, as we have for about 4 decades now. she isn't thrilled with road trips anymore and I get it. Soon enough I'll be too old to hang so I'll hit while I can. Each day is a gift and I make the best I can of each and every gift.

What I do is just my way, not right or wrong, so I hope no one takes this for advise or "the way" to start seeds, to each there own.
I'm not an expert grower, I don't think of myself as an expert at anything other than appreciating each and every day. I just know what works in my environment and with my hands/eyes.

I do have some seedlings in perlite right now, just transplanted 8 solo cup seedlings (three weeks since cotyledons broke the surface) into four 5 gallon buckets, two seedlings per bucket. I do start about half of my seeds in perlite, after a 16 hour water soak. After the soak, I put the seeds pointy end down and cover loosely with about 1/4 inch of perlite, watering 2x to 3x a day until fully germinated. For seedlings I use a 50/50 mix of coarse perlite and well washed MG perlite. The 5 gal buckets get coarse perlite only, not fine MG stuff, and I run a "bubbler" at the bottom of the bucket. I tend to grow my own seeds (I'm a crosser not a real breeder) so I don't stress too much about germination rates, but this method usually is successful with any healthy seed. Starting seeds in plugs (rockwool) does help keep moisture levels higher, probably the only challenge I have encountered using perlite for seedling germination. It's not rocket science, but I do hate to see good seeds goto waste. Not a fan of Peat Moss, Mom didn't like it therefore I don't, no scientific reasoning beyond "My Momma Said"!

Dang I wish I had 1% of the thousands of bagseeds I tossed out the window when I was young. Mostly Red and Gold sativas were coming into port in the late 60s and early 70s, although at the time I didn't even know there was such a thing as Sativa, Indica or Ruderalis! Young Dumb and Full of ... Youth!

Nice Dollar General tape score Sue, seems most appropriate for you in your spaces, with the bananas and growth beads and all!
Festooned ... a great way to make your grow space more personal ad enjoyable. I enjoy using aluminum roll tape myself, light proof, can be formed into shapes, and is very sticky. It's the most expensive of the rolls of tape, and most HVAC techs use instead it instead of cloth duct tape.

Great to yak again Sue, I would ask how things are going for you, but you already put it all out there and I've read it! So glad you haven't tired of your calling since Dale has passed, you are an excellent person for the task. Thanks for your financially uncompensated efforts, it does help people, probably more than you know. I see the happiness of folks faces when playing music for them, and that's what keeps me going back. It certainly isn't the money!

They had lots of other designs of tape to choose from, but the geckos were the bomb! :laughtwo: I thought it turned out quite nice. :cheesygrinsmiley: As you can tell, I do enjoy a bit of whimsy in the gardens. Lol!

I'll be using hempy solos, which should have the effect of keeping the perlite damp for the germination, and eliminate the need to water during the days leading up to germination. I think I'll set one up tonight and see how it goes. Well... I'll soak the seed tonight and plant tomorrow morning. Now........ just exactly what would I like to plant? :hmmm:

Edit: I'm going with my last Industrial Plant seed. I haven't gotten one to germinate yet, but if I do, it'll be the extreme CBD ratio I'm looking for to treat the psoriasis patches.
