Hempy Headquarters

Hello All,

I'm Logan, and I've read and skimmed through the entire thread up to now, and you all seem like some very wonderful and very knowledgeable people. I've seen some very interesting things discussed! Particularly the Osmocote Plus grows I've seen, and of coarse, Hempy!

I'm very new to growing, only started in September of last year, and have only had one successful grow so far (a white widow auto). My biggest struggles have been with figuring out the nutrients needed to support these plants, and lack of humidity, as I live in the desert. Solved the humidity issue recently with a pretty solid humidifier. Hoping maybe I'll be able to figure the rest out in this thread from re-reading and chatting with all of you.

Please excuse the blurple. I have several Hempy's that I have going right now, all coming along nicely so far. I'm using the GH flora series by way of the Lucas formula for nutrients, 5ml micro/10ml bloom/3ml calmag (per gallon), PH'd to 5.8. My garden is currently limited to a 4x2x5 vivosun tent, under 2x Mars Hydro 300's, running a carbon filter, a couple fans, humidifier, etc.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing well and I look forward to chatting with all of you!

Quick question what kind of perlite should I get to mix with my soil?
Any type is fine. I get black gold. Just be sure to rinse rinse rinse. And repeat

Okay thanks Dab.... just didn't want to get any with added nutrients or anything
Yeah no worries! Perlite is inert like coco or hydroton, 0 nutrients in any of the above

They do sell perlite with nutrients already added in.
What?!? Well never would have known that was a thing, thanks DrD!

:welcome: Logan. :hugs: Nice plants. I tried the Lucas formula for a brief time but being so new to bottled nutes I gave up and got better nutrients. I'll be interested in how yours do.

And a hearty welcome to the :420: community. I do hope you're finding everything to your liking. If theses anything we can assist you with as you settle into the neighborhood you have only to ask. :battingeyelashes:

Thank You. The 420 magazine forums are pretty enormous, so it's been a little intimidating going through them. Especially having come from grasscity forums, which is definitely a lot smaller.

I've struggled with the lucas formula too, even though everyone else seems to think its super easy. I feel like I might be starting to get a handle on it though. I started making a document to use as a cheat sheet next to my tent. I sourced some of the information from this thread, you might notice.

Hey all just wanted to join in. I'm preparing a new grow room to do a perpetual grow, decided on the hempy style for simplicity and ease of moving the plants around. I took 10 12 cuttings New Year's Day rooted 10 clones in a hempy style tub and put them in 1 gallon buckets January 15th. They're about 10-12" tall
Now. I'm about 75% done with the new grow room, will have an auto feed system as well

Hey @Goldylox, nice plants! I really like the method you're using for cloning, really nice root development. I've been practicing/experimenting with some cloning, and this seems like it would be a helpful method. For the tub you have the clones in, did you make a hole in the side, or just filled with Perlite? Also, do you cover it with any sort of dome?

Yup... it's just turned to the back.
Solo cups work for this too. Easier and cheaper than fancy PVC... I was doing a drainage project and had a bunch of leftovers.

Thanks, Tead! I'll definitely be trying this method next.

I think I killed all my current cuttings by forgetting to put the cover back on my propagation container yesterday. Epic fail on my part. Lol

In cuttings, the most important things are heat and humidity. Above 60% humidity and above 70f is my target. Cooler temps will slow the process, but still works.

Yeah, I have a heat mat under a jiffy pellet propagator. It's not a very tall humidity dome on it though, so my clones are all super short.

Probably gonna expand into another tent soon, so I'll be figuring out how to best deploy some sort of cloning area.

I'll definitely be using a hempy for cloning, but I wanna figure out a more rigid option for the dome portion, instead of using bags.

They stay up well unsupported. I blow into the hempy hole to inflate the bag once I have it all put together.

Never thought of blowing in the hole, that's a good idea.

Have you ever tried using like a storage container as a hempy, with the lid on to keep in humidity? I've thought about it a few times recently, but haven't tried it.

The list of tricks Tead has tried is really long. Hell... you can do it in just black plastic bags. Most of the year, my humidity is WAY high enough to clone just fine without a humidity dome. Life in the swamps has it's drawbacks, but cloning is not one of them.
