Hempy Headquarters

thanks.

always thought drain to waste was a given in hempy context.. .. lol - thought dtw had a different meaning for it.. :p

edit: due to the small res in hempy, i always treated stuff like that as essentially the same. but i put it on the water side of my schedule, or create a water side.

Drain To Waste.
I might just go with molasses as it's organic and cheap. The hurdle is adding another "something" into my system that is based on simplicity.

Molasses would be a good choice since it also has some minerals. However, I’m still not sold on the concept that the plant benefits from added sugars outside the roots, when the plant makes its own. Has anyone seen some valid documentation on this?

Seems like a good way to attract ants though. :p

Well, some have tried flood and drain “hempy”. Seems to work okay..

High! I don't know where else would be the better place to ask this, but information out there for hempy buckets is disjointed compared to other well known methods but fuck it this makes way more sense than the investment to do dwc correctly.

Best trusted resources on growing hempy, tutorials, guides? If there is someone who has been doing it for a really long time successfully I'd really like to follow that person. It'll be my first grow.

Thank you community

I’m probably not the best person to “follow”, since I don’t do a journal for every grow. I would recommend watching @Buck5050 or @bluter, or @Chris Scorpio, for example.

But the basics are pretty simple. Get a container (I like a 2 gal bucket from Dollar Store), drill a hole (I like 1/2”) about 2” up from the bottom, fill with perlite (I like a chunky size #4), put the plant in, and fertigate as needed (I like daily, but will go 2-3 days if needed). I use MegaCrop (there’s an entire Thread about it).

And we’re here to help.

I have not used the word "legit" in ages but this is truly legit, thank you.

Welcome to the Headquarters. This thread will get you on the right track. If your not sure you can get started on the cheap with a little trash can, some perlite and megacrop. Start some seedlings in red solo cups and you'll be off to the races.

should I overestimate my tent size with Hempy? I was looking at a 3x3 for 3 plants, Maui Waui x 2 and one Blackberry Kush.

was looking at 4k qb for veg and a separate 3k for flower.

edit: recommendation for boards?

You should be able to do some nice things in a 3x3. With this plant you can grow them small or as big as you want. Some plants also stretch more than others, so you'll be dealing with that at some point.

Thanks man, I think I will prob just do 2x maui waui, I read docs jounral and it might be better to just stick to one strain this grow.

I know this is a crazy late comment, is that white elevated unit attached to the left wall an air curtain AC unit? I don’t have AC in my house and am trying to figure out the best ways To keep temps down in spring and summer.

It's just a standing fan I mounted sideways for good air movement

If your ambient room temp is high, the tent will be higher with lights and all

I've ran mine at 90f and no major issues, was with an HPS light. Now with QBs I'm around 80-82 in summer
Has anyone found a solution to preventing perlite blockage/Leakage/Buildup at the drainage hole? I saw a image of a strainer adaption but do not know if this is common or has drawbacks.

Never had any issue with blockage in my holes, 1/2" hole works great

DON’T DO THIS! You would definitely regret it. As Chris said, the 1/2” hole works great, especially with a chunky perlite.
