Hempy Headquarters

Oh guys...... be still my beating heart.

Buck, do you water every 48 hours throughout the grow? You’re making MegaCrop look like a great choice. :high-five: Impressive yields too. I’d think the tubes’d be easier to manage. I thoroughly enjoyed the smaller pots when I ran them.
Yes. I use one 16oz solo cup of nutes down the tube every other day.

The past two runs I have stuck to every 48 hours. The tubes are straight perlite so they do dry out fairly quickly. I have tested trying to stretch it to 72 a couple times with undesirable results. This past run I have been watering one tube every 24 hours to check results. I will have dry weight info on that in a couple weeks. But, by my eye it looks heavier than the other 2 identical clones getting fed every 48 ...

For some reason, this doesn’t surprise me. More air exchange and fresh nutes is always better.

So if it’s the same amount of nutes and water, and the plant that’s watered twice as often is bigger, then that’s only going to reinforce the idea that it’s the more frequent introduction of fresh air (and flushing of old air), that is responsible for the difference.

I can just imagine the air being sucked in as the 8 oz of solution tumbles and rushes through the perlite and roots in a 8-inch diameter tube.

Don’t get me wrong - I love the hempy reservoir. But just as those who are growing in coco (and are sometimes fertigating twice a day) - I have experienced a higher growth rate fertigating daily, than when I was fertigating less often - like waiting 2-3 days for the reservoir to be emptied.

I’m really feeling like it’s the fresh air.

I believe Brix was watering my monster Carnival every day at the end.

But does that increased growth translate to increased bud weight?

It sure looks that way.

This was just my first observation using the pure perlite as a medium. I for one didn't start using the hempy grow style to be watering everyday. I use it because it's fairly simple. This information will help me set up an automatic watering system which will make growing even simpler.

Me too. And I do depend on the reservoir to keep the plants hydrated when I can’t get to them often enough. But like Buck, I saw great results from more frequent fertigation (I had an automated system that provided streams, instead of drips, to flush out/refill the reservoir).

Like remove the stems from nodes 1-4?
I try and remove any branches 6 inches up from the top of tube (allows for easy watering access), than a few bud sites an inch or two up from that point. Some phenos do get some side branching out and look like mini Christmas trees. Most of the time it's a single "spear" bud that I try and shoot for. I do go hands off after the week 3s trim and leaf strip until about week 6 where I do a light defoliation. Some goals I keep in mind: No larf . Quality before quantity.Fill the jars with smooth clean smoke.

Jan 09 hempys

all tied up for a 2L lst run. might up pot to 5L if they don't get a move on.

@bluter, they always fall into line for you. :hugs:

Ahhhh...... guys, you have no idea how wonderful it is to stroll through your hempy kingdoms. :hugs:

@Buck5050, we grow them for the oil, and it appears you’ve mastered that part of it. MegaCrop has done well by your hand. :high-five: Tomahawk is amazing!

@FelipeBlu, with your love of number crunching, have you noticed whether Buck’s methods are producing appreciably more than big plants that take up more footprints? Every time I watch him pull this off I sit back and wonder why I’d go with bigger growing containers. I watched Ziggy do the same thing with a combo of Doc’s kit and SWICK trays. There are great advantages to smaller pots.

:battingeyelashes: When I read fine-tuning particulars like this it makes my heart skip a beat:

When I run hempy I water about every 3rd day, sometime every 2nd day

Yes...easy is goodererer

I’ve been busy jumpstarting a writing career guys, so it warms my heart to see you all keeping this passion of mine alive and thriving. Today I’ll be starting to write a blog on hempy for another project, and I was wondering why you initially chose hempy, and why you now choose to stay with the method?

I chose it to grow smaller plants, thinking I’d be able to drop them into open spaces in my tent, and possibly get up to six plants into a 27” x 27” tent. Lol! The irony was that everything I grew hempy blew up into big plants. All the while I kept thinking about exactly what Buck is doing with such beauty and style. :thumb:
