Hempy Headquarters

Ok so here is what I came up with for a humi dome lol now shud I put this in the 2liter with perlite around the foam cup? Or shud I just put the foam cup in its own lol bowl to catch run off??

IMO i would put your cups in a small catch basin and go for it. Up pot like Sue did above.

Give the cup its own little drip saucer. Then you upcan when they get more roots.

I'm trying a new hempy method for cloning.

Starting with a hefty slice of fresh aloe I whipped up a heavy dilution of aloe gel and distilled water. I filled a solo cup with rinsed perlite, blocked the hole and poured that aloe/water into the cup, letting the entire contents get saturated.

The clone cutting was prepared, dipped into rooting hormone and slipped into the saturated perlite. The cup with cutting was placed in a CO2-filled produce bag and sealed off.

She'll sit down here while she sprouts some roots. I'll keep her water freshened every three days until she's done.

My 1st Hempy germ and sprout

Dinachem and Malawi, I'm sure the 3 Kilimanjaro will pop today

I like the clear cups as humidity domes. :high-five: Wasn't that crazy easy Scorpio?

I went back to Big Lots and grabbed the smaller trash cans for starter pots.

So I'll have solo cups to start seeds and clones,

the smaller trash cans pictured above for transition (and occasionally for finish pots), and pots that holds about 2-2.5 gallons of perlite for finish pots to grow trees.

I think I'm set now for pots. :slide:

Why thank you Jones, :battingeyelashes: The bags create a lovely CO2-rich atmosphere with lots of humidity for the clones to rest in and grow roots. You get the CO2 by breathing into the bag to inflate it. You get the humidity by including water into the bag someway. We take in oxygen and expel CO2. Plants expel oxygen and take in CO2. Isn't that nice, how we were evolved to compliment each other? :green_heart:

They love a CO2-rich environment. It keeps them fresh and looking like new, and helps them grow those roots we're looking for. My clones don't suffer from the rooting process. They come out of those bags looking stunning.

So is that jus a regular plastic wastebasket bag or like a wallmart baggie im jus wondering since i figured id try out one of my pineapple skunk clones hempy style so got it going now and so do u put the bag on right away wen u put the clone in perlite??

The clone cutting gets prepared as you would, gently scraping the surface to expose the soft interior of the branch and dipping in rooting hormone to be inserted into the chosen plug, if that's what you're using. I used Rapid Rooters, turned upside down for better stability. The cutting in the plug is placed in the bag, and you check every three days, adding more moisture if necessary, and reinflating the bag. This replenishes the CO2. It takes a week or two to get roots, but I'm running 100% successful at the moment, and I've been cloning steadily since last fall.

What I'm attempting now is to root directly in the perlite. The transplants are easier without the plugs. The plugs also cost extra, and if I can eliminate one expense I'll do it.

After they root you plant them in a pot of perlite and let them go to town. I prefer to start in the Solo cup now and let them get a good start on roots before I stick them into something that's 8-12" deep.

Wen i use the bag does it need to be clear or will a white wallmart bag work??

I'd use a clear bag. I grab mine from the produce department. I usually pocket two when I'm grocery shopping, so I have a steady supply. You want the light to get through, and a white bag would block too much light, I'd think.

I place mine in a spot where they get light, just not too much. They're growing roots, not leaves, so bright, invasive light is the enemy here.

I told my husband about your clone bags. I guessed they were from the produce department. . Now I get to tell him I was right.
Awesome ok ill take the white one out and get clear 1s 2morow thanx i really appreciate it

I managed to get this root ball free without scissors. :laughtwo:

Your roots look much like mine... except all the green on the bottom. All that green sure makes Tead chuckle a bit... forgot the bottom.... too funny.
Note how the big thick roots get pushed up to the top and turn a bit greenish. This is the root mass pushing up a bit as the roots grow down below. Probably a sign that we're growing in too small a container, but we'll need more than that bit of root rise to mend our wayward growing ways.

3 days later and the 2 hempy girls are doing what you'd expect... Not much of anything. Lol a few more leaves, a few more mm's of upward growth.

One must exercise some patience here as the roots fill the pot down to the res. As soon as the roots hit the bottom, you'll be a bit shocked. I feel their speed is comparable to plain soil growth rates... until the roots hit the bottom, then she'll take right off.

Tead tries to avoid the quicky marts that sell things like 'slushies'. I might have to bend a rule and steal me some of those lids. Very handy! Why didn't Tead think of using the domes?

How have you not done that yet?!? So simple.

I feel a touch sad to be so absent from this thread lately. Damn real life!

Is that world of seeds Kilimanjaro? I'm planning on picking some up with my next order and am curious as to how they grow.
It is

I just started them , hope they show their heads today

K so I got some clear bags 2day now to wait and see if my clones take hold plus I got one seed in already still waiting for the other 4 to pop plus started germing my other 5 mystery seeds I have so tht way I can get a good number of hempy girls going well I hope they r girls lol here is the bag I got this shud be better then my other white bag I hope

And here is another clone I did in straight perlite no rooting hormone I shud added some alone from my alone plant wen I do tht with my clones I put into soil they do a lot better usually so idk how it wud do with hempy growing but it wud still help I imagine but I cud be wrong lol anyway I put her in one of my Ziploc baggie cuz it was clear clear so figured tht wud let light threw even better n hold in the co2 really nice as well so wen I start my hempy cups they will Go into these lol

Not a big fan of starting the seeds in Hempy after germination.. too lanky and unstable, and I also have 3 Kilimanjaro that did nothing, put em in paper towels this morning and hoping they crack some tap roots...poor babies

So I mixed the two. Took my solo cup with Hempy and placed a bottomless cup inside and added soil.

Kinda best of both worlds. Nice soil bed for the babies and straight into the Hempy when roots take off.

Fun fun fun

Now that deserves reps. Brace yourself. That Hammer 'O Rep has gotten quite hearty. :laughtwo:

I didn't have any problem with lanky. My Industrial plant is very tight.

IMG_036065.JPG

In my garden lanky has always been a light issue. How far do you put your seedlings from the light? Lanky in perlite doesn't present the same challenges. You can easily lift them and settle them deeper into the medium and presto-chango, you have a short, stocky plant where previously you had an Amazon. :battingeyelashes:

Well there ya go Jones. :high-five: The ziploc bag.... you exhaled into that one to inflate it? That's how we fill the up with CO2. If you insert a straw into the corner and zip it closed to that point it can make it easier to inflate it a bit more, but yours looks good.

The rooting hormone may speed up the process, but there's actually a thread on site that's all about how simple it is to start a clone in nothing more than a glass of water. Our impatience has us using the hormones, but the cuttings will most often root without all the hoopla. Just be patient. As long as the cutting looks healthy, keep it going. A couple of mine looked horrid before they sprouted roots and went on to become marvelous blooming beauties.
