Hempy Headquarters

Cylinders are easy. It's just V=π*r²*h . And once you have the volume just convert to gallons. In this case, since we're dealing in cubic inches, multiply by 0.0043290 .

Easy huh? :laughtwo: You aren't inside my brain when formulas present themselves. Lol! Don't get me wrong, I love them, and after the initial neural panic I settle down to play, but the initial shock of seeing one makes my brain want to run away. Lol!

Did a little hempy transplant today. I'll be purchasing a few more saucers before I do the next two, but Carnival 4.2 and Candy Cane got treated to new digs.

First Candy Cane

and then Carn 4.2. She's just getting her leaves going after an extensive reveg. She was cut from the mother at 21 days into flowering.

By next weekend she'll be all recovered with more growth and be ready to flower herself.

Candy Cane will be flipped by this weekend.

I'm developing a little hempy kingdom in here. :cheesygrinsmiley: I've decided hempy resonates with me and I'll be phasing out the soil. I just cooked a new batch of soil, so the ultimate transition won't happen until next year when that soil taps out, or unless I gift the soil and kit supplies to someone else. That's a trickier scenario than using it up.

I'm just not feeling the same excitement and satisfaction with the kit that I'm feeling for hempy.

This is Tead's fault. :laughtwo:

So are there any rules or guidelines for up canning the hempy pot. I just went from solo cup to something slightly larger. Am I going to have to go through this again or can it just be flowered in the current pot.

I have visions of Cola Monster's solo cup grow.

You're good at controlling nutrients Jim. I'd think you can pull it off in your containers. I just started growing these monster plants, so I went with bigger pots. Look at what others get with 2ltr bottles.

Dazzle us Jim. Make them shine. :battingeyelashes:

Good start Lazarus!

That fan will really help, too much air movement is hard to accomplish! I tried CocoCoir in a soiless grow a few times and it worked ... and it worked me!

In CocCoir only, I had constant problems with medium pH and moisture levels, but eventually got it dialed in on the 3rd and 4th round of attempts. I know you know how to grow, I just wanted to offer for you to watch the pH and moisture levels in your medium closely, they might get wacky really quickly. I tend to over water, always been a problem for me. I suffer from recurring kidney stones, so I discovered chugging about a gallon of water a day helps reduce the size, thus the passing pain. I think I have applied my problem solution to plants ... and it doesn't help! Strange how even though I know a plant doesn't need a drink, I still want to give it one! I'm H2O challenged I guess.

Best of luck
Keith

Good job, looking forward to your progress with CocoCoir only.

Real Lemonade. Not soda pop lemonade but squeezed from lemons lemonade. You can get it from the market. It will help keep you from getting more and help break up the smaller ones. I have been under urological care for over ten years. Have two stones in each kidney and when they move it hurts. Lots of water and glass or two of lemonade a day.

Good Morning Sue,

I hope the universe is your oyster today (somehow I know the answer without asking!).

I think you are being bitten by the KISS bug, but Perlite is so forgiving, clean, cheap and almost without a downside. Once roots reach the bottom of a container, the plant just goes into crazed growth, health and vigor. I too have stopped and started many indoor growing methods and mediums, and all variants teaches us something about good growing practices. You plants are looking great! After abandoning soil, I eventually added it back into the fold, running half in soil only and half in perlite only. Not sure why! Whimsy I assume, other just call it crazy.

Best to you
:circle-of-love:

Thanks for the info and the good wishes keifkeith. The first part of the grow is always so slow but when things pick up i will post some update pics and words.
P.s. i had heard its difficult to over-water in coco and to treat it like hydro, which is my cup o tea, but it sounds like you had over-watering issues? How so? Or is there a chance it was issues from the pH problems you were having? Just curious because not being easy to over-water was a big draw of coco for me... Lol

Maybe it's my previous hydroponics experience speaking, but when I think of that kind of thing, I translate it to "lack of oxygen at the root zone." Which, I suppose, could happen with most types of media if environmental/etc. conditions are just right (err... wrong ;) ).

IDK if it's true or not, it just makes sense to... me.

You can overwater with coco, not in one watering session, but if you keep the coco over saturated by not waiting long enough between watering sessions you will run into some problems. I know this wasn't directed at me but I though I would add my 2 cents .

My grow space is 17"x22". What's the largest hempy container size I should use? So far I've only grown in rockwool and coco in 5 gallon cloth pots.
How tall, that's the biggest issue

I'm using 2.5 and 3 gal buckets and have some 4' plants

3 gal is a good size, as is 2gal...heck 2l jugs seem great as well

The first month of growing is so slow ... it seems like it takes forever! I run perpetual growing and harvest every two months, so I'm not spending 30 days looking at seedlings only. Just my experience with CocoCoir, you might not experience any of what I did ... one of the problems with "advice"! :high-five: This isn't advice ... just an experience share that occurred in my environment. Had to check my notebook .. it's been a few years! I should type the notes up one day, no one can read my chicken scratch handwriting but myself.

:volcano-smiley:

My first grow with CocoCoir - July 1999
Coco started compacting about three weeks after germination in a 3 gallon bucket, becoming more matted and dense over time. Coco level in the bucket visually decreased by 2.5 inches. Week 6, I thought I was over watering (of course I was) and backed off to three waterboardings a week. :thedoubletake::thedoubletake: Did I mention I'm a chronic overwaterer? It did help some, but the notes say i could smell biological events were starting to occur in the medium. The problem at week 6 ended up being root rot. I started over with new CocoCoir and did much better without trying to over saturate the medium and moved much more air through and around the area. It could have been a strange batch of Coco too, my notes said it seemed heavier than previous bags. I use Coco as an ingredient in my soil batches.

pH was a constant battle in Coco for me, even on the 3rd and 4th grows. Notes indicate the runoff was pH erratic, sometimes alkaline sometimes acidic, but always variable. I only use pH'd rainwater for my herb, very low PPM from the barrel (25-30), so I started testing the center and bottom of the Coco with a pH probe. pH in the medium was fluctuating, but much less so that the runoff. Notes say I kept the watering at 5.8, and stayed there successfully through the 3rd and 4th grow. Apparently I really liked the end product, the Afghani rated a 8.9 on my smoke scale!

Again, this is all just my experience and rambling from a notebook, your mileage can and probably will vary. I just wanted to share my little experience with Coco only as the medium. In my humble opinion, pH is one of the four critical elements for good plant growth.

Best of luck, look forward to watching your grow progress. I'll be hitting the road in a week or so, and I'm not too thrilled about trying to type on a phone. My lurker status may return!

Maximum plant height would be about 2 feet. Maybe more depending on the height of the final pot and what light I'm using.

So a 2 liter bottle would suffice you think? Keeping my eyes open for useful buckets. :)

Height will be a struggle for sure

Maybe only veg a shirt couple weeks, then go to flower

They will grow 2-3x thier height in flower, so keep that in mind

Oops, yes on the 2l, wanna say Tead was getting 3' in a 2l bottle, so be sure they are Low, LSTd, and ready before flower time

Again, much appreciated info. It gives me things to watch out for.

Another Hempy Harvest: Carnival 4 (Day 137, flip + 83)

This was my longest-running Carnival. I typically harvest them around day 70. She was grown with Osmocote Plus and pH-adjusted water. That's all. Incredibly easy to do, and even with burnt leaves........ I'm good with this.

She came in at 216 grams wet, which I estimate to be 1.5 oz dry. She's hanging to dry in an attempt to stay away from the previous Carnival harvest until it's fully cured.

I priced the RX Green Solution nutrients for the first time today, then recited my mantra "I'm so grateful and thankful, and I love all the money I have in my life." :laughtwo: Made me thankful I won that contest.
