Haight Solid State vs. H.G.LED

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

These two posts alone make this grow worthwhile for me. Thanks for letting me know that this journal has made a difference in the bigger picture. That's a lot more important to me than which light wins or what the yield is.

:thanks:

Ignorance is countered best with education and encouragement.

We all have something we can bring to this table, to this fight, so let's bring it! :rollit:
Ok !! Let's get backto work now !! How about some trich shots ?? They changing yet ?? :reading420magazine:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Took some HSS trich shots and pics of the plants last night, but didn't get a chance to upload yet.

I'll update with lots of pics tonight.

The HSS trichs are looking similar to the HGL's currently, about 50/50 clear/cloudy.

great journal, Setting Sun, very good job showing everyone what these new lights can do, I am sure you already know what is necessary to generate a bigger yield the next time around, looking forward to every update.

Wow, I don't know what to say.

That may be the nicest gesture that I've ever had the pleasure of receiving.

True, nobody gets paid here monetarily, but the love and appreciation is reward enough.

thank you

I agree, major reps are in order. Great job SS! :bravo:

HSS TRICHOMES DAY 55

Took these yesterday. There aren't any standouts in the HSS tent either, and in fact, the tall HSS 2 sativa pheno has a few amber trichs, even though the pistils on that plant are still almost completely white. Judging maturity by the hairs on this strain, at least under LED's, would not work well at all.

These are from all four plants:

The amber trichs above are from the sativa pheno.

Amber trichs, again from the tall lady, but it wasn't easy to find them, yet.

I see a little bud growth in HSS 2, but very little to none in any of the other plants. I'm pretty sure things are winding down.

No yellowing at all, and that's throwing me a little, but maybe that's a result of carefully tracking PH through the grow and the lower metabolic rates from the low-heat, low-wattage LED lights.

I'll try to post some pics of the plants later tonight.

thanks all!

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

they call those trichs on trichs "foxtails". I think I remember Ms. Fox and McBudz talking about them a gajillion years ago.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Hey SS it's amazing how green the plant stays till the end under the LED's.
I hope all the bud porn talk hasn't gone to your head after getting all those fancy micro cameras. Where's this guy swiming too? Or is that trich having an orgasm?... That's amazing SS. I can't even take a clear picture with the camera I borrowed and your showing us one of it's cells practically..lol

I have been shock-treated to shudder at first hint of hermaphroditism.
Now you come up with these fancy photos of phallic structures, and they are the goodie!
Trichomes blowing their tops, and having an organism, indeed.

You can see the resin producer cells in the stalk. Amazing work, Mr Sun.

:thanks: and :welcome: mendobud!

If this had been a regular grow, I would have LST'ed them, but I went for the middle-ground because I thought that would provide the most pertinent info. I know LST is becoming increasingly popular, but I don't think it's become the most common grow style.

nice to meet you!

thanks slimm!

Reps shmeps!
Get this grow over with already! I know what you're capable of doing, and I know you want to do it!

Tell these plants to finish up, chop 'em down, dry 'em, weigh 'em, and get going on the next grow already!

:ganjamon:

lol, OK, but stop being so subtle ;).

I've heard the term used to describe aberrant growth on buds, but not trichs. The trichs on these plants show some strange and cool things.

Yep, it is amazing how green they are late in bloom. It throws me a little because I perceive them as being less mature than they really are.

Yeah, the trichs on these plants are a trip. I'm not sure what's happening with that little dude, lol.

thanks for the kind words, I like taking pics of MJ ;)

I know, talk about bud porn.

I could not have been less selective.

thanks PG ;)

Next update I'll take them out of the tents to visually document them individually. Maybe with the daylight savings change, I'll be able to do it outside for some nice pics.

thanks for following the grow ;)

Those trichs look just about like i like them !! maybe another 3 days or so. I hope they fill in for you !! But don't look like it !!:reading420magazine::peacetwo:

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

I just checked and there's a few more amber trichs in both tents, with the HSS plants actually having slightly more.

I'm thinking of flushing tonight or tomorrow, as it's looking like another week or so until harvest.

OK, so I want to harvest them and collect as much useful data as possible, and I only get one chance to do this the best way.

This is my plan, please chime in if there's something I'm missing or any suggestions on how to do it better:

1. chop main stem at soil line and weigh plant immediately before trimming anything for gross fresh wet weight.

2. hang entire plant upside down to dry without trimming anything until ready to manicure and jar, which should take about a week or so depending on RH.

3. weigh entire plant again prior to trimming.

4. trim the buds and jar them for the cure.

5. cure the buds for 1-2 weeks more, or until they're cured enough to smoke and do the final dry weights.

All of this will be done and documented individually for each plant so that we can break out the numbers for each plant, each group, and as a whole.

Right now, it looks like they all may get chopped on or around the same day. The HSS sativa pheno isn't playing by the rules, so I'm keeping a closer eye on her, but all the other plants in each group are pretty much more or less on the same schedule.

SS, I know some people have asked for wet weight and all but what is the purpose? Is this a new way of determining the quality of your harvest or if your improving your methods or something? Maybe those asking don't know what a pain in the ass it is to weigh a whole plant for no good reason. maybe we should have weighed the pots before starting to see if you put the same amount of soil in them. And now we can weigh them when your finished to see how much soil is gone...who cares?...lol...sorry some things I just shake my head at!

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

It has to do with determining what percentage of the plant is waste vs yield, which isn't something I'm personally interested in, but it's not that much work really.

I just thought of something though, that I won't be able to report the wet weight of just the buds, which *is* something I'm interested in, because I think reporting the yield as 25% of fresh wet bud weight is more accurate than dry weight.

Nothing written in stone yet, so thanks for your input bro.

I'd really like to get the wet bud weight, so I'm gonna have to rethink priorities.

thanks again!

I set the circulation fans up higher a while back and it increased their efficiency and airflow significantly. Having them right on the deck seems to choke them.

They run better up a bit higher, and it's safer also as far as electrical/water issues.

I think next time I'll put something heavy inside the coffee cans and zip tie them to the lids to make things even safer.

Just a heads-up.

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

Hey Sun,as I started to type a suggestion for harvest I realized theres not an easy way to collect all the data for wet and dry weights. There are several ways to go about it but they all seem a pain in the ass. :goodluck:
