Haight Solid State vs. H.G.LED

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

I first thought the HGL plants had more shadow, less penetration, but now I think it's just due to the difference in contrast between the two tents when using the white balance settings. Even the walls of the tent look lighter on the HSS side. I can't see the same differentiation in the uncorrected pics.

Sweet.... That tent is going to be packed to the rim.

Do you raise the lights for the pics? Maybe I missed it; I usually like to be about 6 to 8 inches at this phase of flower and even closer towards the end with my HSS lights. With grapefruit, when I get it just right, the tips of the fan leaves, when they are all happy and pointing up, just miss touching the light.

The sides of the tent *are* lit up more by the HSS light. That seems to be pretty consistent in all the pics, corrected or not, but maybe the color correction may be making it difficult to compare things.

If anyone is having problems with the color correction or has suggestions for pics, and I can apply them, I would be more than happy.

thanks Bolivar!

yes, I raised the lights for the pics.

I have both the HGL and the HSS lights at 6" currently.

thanks for your feedback brother, very helpful!

Can you get a shot with the lights at the current height? The HSS lights have wide beams and people might want to see how well they light up the whole tent compared to the HGL light, even when close. No hurry, maybe at the next update.

Ok, I had to sign up just for this. I'm a NOOB (I haven't been cultivating since.... damn thats to long) and this is exactly I was looking for. You're doing a great job SS.

Pulling up a seat for this one

I can't wait to see the difference between the 1W versus the 6W bulbs. Been wondering how much of a difference it makes during flowering. :bong:

Because of the very different designs of these lights, this may not be the best comparison for 1w vs 6w.

I think the differences in viewing angle (HSS 180/HGL 60), combined with the difference in how they stay cool, which drives the design of the HSS light to a great degree, are going to overwhelm any difference in performance between the 1w and 6w LED's.

For that, it would be better to compare two panels with a similar physical design. I don't think I would make any assumptions of 1w vs 6w LED performance based on the results of this comparison because I think it would be a minor contributing factor.

All that aside, I'm glad you're on-board ;).

thank you Moustache!

and welcome back to the fold ;).

Wonder what is causing the variation in the size of the top fan's versus the bottom foliage, unless my eye is mistake.

It seems if the tent on the right has larger fan leaves on top and less dense underfoliage.

Can you verify that or is it but an illusion?

Keep up the great work, SS!!!!:goodjob: Those girls are beautiful and both manufacturer's should be happy it was you doing the growing.

:peace:

No, not an illusion. You have a sharp eye.

The fan leaves on the Haight Solid State light in the tent on the right are somewhat larger and the lower foliage is not as dense.

The fan leaves on the HydroGrowLED plants are also large, but just a bit smaller. I can't even hazard a guess.

I thinking the difference in foliage density in the lower foliage is mostly a result of the difference in distance as to how the lights were positioned over the plants. The HGL light was at 6" and the HSS at 12".

thanks MH!

Re: 420 Consumer Reports Competition - Haight Solid State vs. Hydro Grow LED

great journal, I just got my ppf-400 after checking this journal I was convinced Haight Solid State rocks, previously I was using a Glowpanel 45 and a couple of 65w CFLs
great job showing people so they can see for themselves the great results.
