Graytail's Cupwinners in High Brix Soil - 4x4 - 600W HPS - Perpetual

Another week, another update!

I harvested one of the Grapefruit tops because it was getting very dense and I don't want to risk PM again. From the feel of the cola and buds, this will be an improvement over the first, and we all like that. :cheesygrinsmiley: I think I'm going to be quite satisfied with this one. It only has two weeks left, max.

WWxSk#1 has finished her drench and I might give her a third. I don't see much in the way of trichs yet and the foliage looks good. She purdy.

Carn3 is, however, busy makin' trichs, good girl that she is. :cheesygrinsmiley: Both strains finish in 9 weeks and look at the difference. I have high hopes for Carn3, looking pretty darned good for this stage of bloom. I recharged this one (with 3 lbs EWC) earlier than the others and it seems to have avoided the early fading - standard procedure for me in the future.

Cotton Candy x Carnival went into 12/12 three days ago. I wasn't very happy with this plant in early veg, but it's become better over time, more of a sativa habit. It should be an interesting cross.

Alas, the idea of potting directly into old soil hasn't turned out worth a crap. This plant is struggling. I topdressed it with 3 lbs of EWC today and we'll see if that helps. It's not awful, just clearly not hooked up, not living off the soil.

Thanxx Gray. You've just sparked a braincell. I've been forgetting to topdress the soils of the plants I've put in re-veg lately. When DonPaul was walking me through my first re-veg I remember doing that. I'll be dead on top of it at lights on.

The CC in the CCC, is observable, with that slight thickness - can't wait to hear your impressions of the smoke. The WWxSKs I had, didn't sugar up on the leafs, but the calyxes were crusted up nicely. Resin was sharply potent, so it was a pleasant surprise to smoke. Still amorous of that Carn3, she is looking mighty fine. Glad to hear your PM isn't still a huge problem. I bet you are as well, haha! :circle-of-love: :peace::Namaste:

From Teaming With Microbes - rototilling and excessive soil disturbance destroys or severely damages the soil food web, destroys soil structure, displaces soil biota, and breaks up fungal hyphae.

What's there in the rhizosphere is there; I don't think that the bacteria die that soon after you chop the plant (unless you let the soil dry completely). I think you have a good idea, letting the roots grow into an already established soil. Good luck with it.

Really nice update. Enjoyed it thoroughly! :cheertwo: :thumb:

Thanks so much Lester! I hope you know that I live vicariously through your journal. I want a small acreage in a temperate climate to putter around in. :cheesygrinsmiley:

... you loadie ... :laughtwo: BTW, the new acquisitions are way kharmically odd. That's gotta warp all sense of reality for a moment. :thedoubletake::straightface:

Hey GT,

I did drop two small, but well rooted cuttings into a hole carved in a used pot of media. topdressed w ewc and after one week drenched with energy. they seem to be vigorously growing roots and slowly but lushly growing vegetation. i have them outdoors for now. i plan to let them finish in this container. i'll post a pic.

pair_of_jacks.jpg

Hey, they look just fine! This Grapefruit cut wasn't happy anyway - had purple stems and dull leaves - and it's better after some Energy, but it ain' thriving. I'll keep experimenting on it for research. :cheesygrinsmiley: I dropped some cuts into water yesterday, so if I get a viable one, I can do whatever I want to this one.

I continue to strive for your excellence but you are correct and it is my personal best...:yahoo:..... but I sure would like to harvest one like yours some day... Beautiful Gray... Just beautiful.......:circle-of-love:

Awww, you're always so nice ... :battingeyelashes::kisstwo:

The thickness is what I saw in it as an adolescent and didn't care for. That'd be Power Plant and I'm not sure I like the African strains. Cotton Candy had a dull lethargy to the high that I wasn't fond of. But it looks more like an average hybrid now, and the Carnival in it will buzz up the high. Mostly, it's starting to look like it'll have the sort of habit I like to work with. I didn't do a thing about the PM, actually. It only affected that GLP and a few isolated leaves on some others. But yes, this GF1 has exactly the sort of buds GLP did, and I can see it coming down the tracks. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Good info Chimp, thanks. A reminder to self - be sure to keep the pots moist after I harvest - I keep forgetting. :cheesygrinsmiley: *mutter* ... loadie

Great plants all along :thumb:
This Carnival really starts me thinking about growing it next year. If it's so potent sativa there must be something for me in this strain :)

Hopefully, I'll get a better pheno of the CC. As it figures, she's my best plant in the bunch right now - just razor sharp. The Lavender mother of CC, is a common parent to GLP, and is a complicated cross on it's own, leaving room for phenotypical expression. Hopefully I'll see a fuller expression of the sativa side of her genetic makeup. I have a couple of strains that almost require you to mix them, with another, to get the best out of them, so if it's a one-note-wonder, I'll spice it up. In other words, lemonade. :) Your girls are looking great GT, love this channel. :cheertwo::circle-of-love:

Seriously, if this is a typical pheno, you owe it to yourself to grow one (or more). This stuff is stunningly potent for such a clear unpolluted high. I've grown some really strong stuff over the past year and this is as punchy as any of them. And it's nothing but zip - a nice comfortable, eager, what-should-we-do-now zip. :yahoo: Plus, of course, it has the habit and vigor of a typical hybrid, with the exception of weak stems. It has nothing in common with its fussy sativa brethren except the face-palm high with the urge to go do something. :laughtwo:

I mix most of my strains. :cheesygrinsmiley: Last night, I discovered Jamaican Dream and Grapefruit, a half pinch of each in the pipe. The JD has cured to cherry cough drop, so I get a grapefruit cherry soda flavor and a buzzier buzz than JD has. Nice.

:bravo: I love the way you mix weed. I do pretty much the same thing. It's part of the fun of being a stoner....super cool.

The past week has been very good in Graytail's garden. :slide:

My four flowering girls are getting to the point where they're exciting to watch, and the youngsters are looking very eager and healthy. I cut some more of Grapefruit 'cause she's gettin' a lil moldy here and there. The top I took last week dried to 15 grams and this lot looks like another 20 and there's still some weight left on the plant. :cheesygrinsmiley: Gonna end up being a good harvest. I sure do love the terpenes on this strain. Brix is rising nicely.

WWxSk1 is filling out, busy making lots of small calyxes. Compared to Carnival, she's showing almost no trichs yet, but I'll take CareStaker's word that they're hidden in there. :cheesygrinsmiley: I gave her three shots of Drench and she's due for water tomorrow - haven't decided whether to do one watering or go straight to Energy. I'd like to encourage her in any way I can at this point - she's runnin' late.

Ah, Carnival ... :cheesygrinsmiley: ... what a strain. Just look at this one. Actually, I forgot, she's a little limp 'cause she needed water. I gave her some but she didn't perk up until after I took the pics. She's really pretty! Wow. The trich production reminds me of Jamaican Dream, but this high is so much better. I'm pretty sure this one will break 3 z's handily. Brix at 16/16. :yahoo:
