Graytail's Cupwinners in High Brix Soil - 4x4 - 600W HPS - Perpetual

When soil is first mixed it is one thing. As it cooks for a month or two it becomes another. Once plants grow in it becomes yet another. It is really hard to know how to "season" a soil for the second or thrid go around. Without regular soil testing you've just gotta listen to your gut, pay attention to the results of others, and believe in yourself, I reckon.

I am inspired to try something different gray. I'm gonna harvest my next plant and pot another one right into the hole. I think for me I'd use my spike blend and poke some new holes in the dirt and "re-spike it" ,if u will.

And some new EWC on the top. Seems fun to try, easier to do if it works, and also sounds like a sound idea.

Thanks for making me think of this!

Really its just remember what nature would do and go from there ;)

Well, for every problem there's a solution. You smoke and there's no problem ;)

I sure believe that :)

Inspired by gt,ive been plotting that very same course of action. i've got 2 close to harvest in 7gals and i have another pair in 2 gals that i have vegging and could drop right in gt style. Maybe that will be my 1st thread!

Well spoken. You and I have something in common - lots of cheffing. From silently following your journal I'm confident that you have an intuitive understanding that standardization and careful measurement only gets you so far. You are not a shoemaker.

I like to think that our experience serves us well when gardening.

Just remember what degree culinary students obtain when they graduate. Applied Science. Science is Science. We (as chef's) just apply science differently. ;) Use you're skills...

I have another quick update:

I have three plants in flower, with the Grapefruit ready in 3 weeks or less. I stripped off most of her fans and opened up any lower buds that were shaded. She's in her last stretch, finished with the drench and just fattening up now. It'll be another small harvest but I'm in love with the terpenes. Oh, and brix is rising, up to 13 for the first time. :cheesygrinsmiley:

WWxSk has become an elegant thing, all tall and graceful. It really helped to break down the tops just as it started flowering. It looks like it'll finish at just under 40 inches - a little tall for my setup, but manageable. She got her first Drench today, a week or two earlier than I normally do it, but I want some good hard buds on this one.

This is really a nice Carnival clone. :cheesygrinsmiley: There's a lot of meat on this one - may break 3 z's. It started to fade a little, so I gave it the recharge with 3 lbs of EWC along with its Drench.

Cotton Candy x Carnival is looking much better. I had intended to flip it today, but I want some more time for training. I've got some good tops going.

The Grapefruit cut I put in Carnival's old pot isn't happy at all. The first day, the new growth had a pale spiky look and I liked that, but as the days passed it turned out to simply be fade. It ain' happy. So I topdressed it with a few tablespoons of Roots, gave it a shot of Energy/Tea and I'll see how it goes. It'll hook up eventually and this Grapefruit is a touchy pheno anyway.

I have two Utopia seedlings (front) and two Carnival cuts (back) vegging nicely.

And four more Carnival on deck if I need them, plus the tossaways still hanging out in water. I'm going to take some Grapefruit cuts this week and I'll do the same - pop 'em in water and do something with them later. The ones with the nubbies that I posted pics of, took to the soil instantly - nary a hiccup. :cheesygrinsmiley:

This method is a very recent discovery for me.

I started doing them in peat pods in a water tray with a dome, and it went well at first and then got increasingly iffy. Along the way, I'd do stuff like just powder one and stick it right into a cup of soil, and that went as well as the peat pods, so I switched to soil. But I was still doing about 50/50. Then a few weeks ago, I forgot one in a cup of water for 2-3 days and was surprised that it took to soil really well after that soak.

So now I'm toying with a presoak in water until they grow root nubs, 7-10 days, and then into soil. I didn't expect them to actually support apical growth while sitting in water, but this last batch of Carnivals did just that. They're the tall ones in the cups. I'm not exaggerating, they never broke stride, ever - they got cut off and dropped into water and stayed looking just fine, no wilting no twisting, no fading. Just ...odd. After a week I noticed that the tips were folding back making room for the next. Then I finally put them in dirt and samesame - never broke a sweat.

So ... heck ... I think I'll try that again. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Heheh, I'm having one of those loadie moments when ideas "reveal" themselves, etc, and I figured maybe there were other loadies here who might appreciate it, especially since it's grow-oriented.

So I was thinking about how I only have three girls in the bloom room and that means I have fewer responsibilties, just kinda idling along, trying some of this and that until things pick up again, and how it's really only the maturing one that I have to pay attention to anyway, and how unlike humans, pubescent female cannabis plants are a dream to live with. It's when they get older and desperate that the hormones rage and sometimes make our lives miserable. The young flowering girls are easy. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Hey Ziggster! You should post up some pics like Ludweed did. :cheesygrinsmiley: Show us your own girls!

You must have some to brag on ... ?

By far the best laugh I have had of the day. thank you so much... It was greatly needed........:circle-of-love:

Man, I keep running into what must be hash tips in this newest Carnival. Every few days I get a puff that's exactly like a good blonde hash - sends out a thin vigorous tendril of smoke from the pipe if I don't get the whole hit - grab a nose hit - just like a hard granule of hash.

Yummy! :blunt::yummy:
