Graytail's Cupwinners in High Brix Soil - 4x4 - 600W HPS - Perpetual

Here's the mother and the clone 4 days after they went into 12/12

I don't see anything wrong with those plants. Mine have about the same amount bud and colas, but about another foot of wasted stripped growth underneath.

and 60 days veg and less than a foot tall, whats up with that?

Exactly! How do you estimate? The mother grew to 28 inches and the clone is gonna finish at 24.

Doc, the mother was in mineralized and she did great - it's a very rewarding strain to grow. That's one of the things I'll be able to watch with the kit soil. So far, the kit soil is clearly producing more trichs. I have lots of pictures of the mother to compare to at the same age and growth stage.

I just don't know why these didn't stretch. Both Jamaican clones and the Kerala are finishing at 24 inches - all three. And they vegged for 60 and 74 days.

It's great to have you, Light Addict!

I just cracked my first seed in early April and the only reason I turned out a couple good plants was because of what I learned on :420:

Lol, you're taking notes and learning from a guy who took notes and learned from some very accomplished growers!

:Namaste:

Honestly, I would help but I don't know a darned thing about nutes.
:smokin2:

You need to get BigIrishDoode's attention - he does some astounding things with his coco mix.

Tut is looking husky!

Pretty nice rootball.

This is from the Jamaican Dream in mineralized soil - 6 gallons, 63 days in the pot.

I took down Kerala2 today. I was going to harvest Kerala1 first, but 2 was the first to quit flowering and I want to keep her trichs as zippy as possible. Three weeks ago, they both got overheated and shut down, and I thought they were through, but they both started flowering again, so heck, why not let them grow - I had empty space anyway. Kerala1's days are numbered - the weekend by the latest. Here's what Kerala2 looked like before the chop. I got a brix reading of 14/14 from the lowest bud on the plant - surprised me.

The couple of test buds I tried weren't to my liking, but I'm going to reserve judgement until it's properly dried and cured. And I still plan to harvest kief and hash oil from Kerala1. I'll use that to glaze and frost the buds from Kerala2. At least they'll have a good kick to 'em.

congrats

I'm down to two plants in mineralized soil now - just Kerala1 and the Hawaiian Snow. Kerala1 comes down this weekend and the Hawaiian should finish by the end of the month. I was impressed with the root balls in mineralized soil - they were clearly more dense and fine than the ones in FFOF and OC+. In fact I had to exert some real effort to break up the spongy cube of roots and soil - and no sign of root circling in the square pots.

Here's her divine ugliness in her all miserable faded glory, missing various limbs, dead crap all over her, but she's still making flowers. She's a hash plant now.

I don't know what to think about the Hawaiian. I've been estimating a harvest four weeks from now and for awhile I thought I might have been pessimistic, but she's so slowww. Now I'm not sure - she may go longer. I plucked a bunch of the yellowest fan leaves off her today so she's a little prettier.

Now to the ones in Doc's kit soil. The two Jamaican Dream clones will be finishing about the same time as the Hawaiian, four weeks from now. They're already displaying more trichs than their mother, and they may finish earlier. My only disappointment is that they ended the stretch at 24 inches. But the interesting part about that is they only need 8 weeks in 12/12, so it would be simple to veg for 8 weeks, take a cut and put it in 12/12 at the same time I harvest its mother. Cool. I think the SLH may do the same thing, so that would let me keep a perpetual on two strains, while only taking up two spots in the flower room - tidy.

First here's Kerala3. It got the Cat drench 10 days ago. What should I be looking for? This one is shorter than her sisters but with denser bud growth for its age. It's still yellowed but that isn't advancing rapidly, if at all. It still has 8 weeks to go.

I really like this Jamaican Dream strain. The two cuts JD1 and JD2 are doing fabulously well. When I first came to 420Mag, I lurked for a couple months and stared in awe at the pictures of heavily frosted young buds. I wanted to be able to grow something like that myself, and now I have. For some reason, I never thought of cupwinners in terms of how easy or they were to grow. I just assumed they got the win for the final product, whether it was a PIA to grow or not. But after my experience with the winners Jamaican and SLH and the non-winners NL Auto and Indian Skunk, the difference is dramatic. Is this typical? If so, I'm sticking with cupwinners.

Anyway, I think JD1 and JD2 are lookin' grrreat!

These are the youngsters, the White Panther and Caramelo, both 6 weeks old. I lke Panther - she has eager sharp edged leaves always reaching for the light - but Caramelo has me annoyed. Anyone have any ideas? It's 6 weeks old fer cryin' out loud - 5 lousy inches tall. I LSTed the Panther and she took it well. I want to take some cuts next weekend, and it looks like she'll be ready. I'll probably hold her in veg another week, though - it's a fast flowering strain and I want to get some bulk on her before I put her in 12/12. I may just toss the Caramelo into 12/12 next week and let it do whatever it wants.

Thanks, Doc!

I hope someone else tries Jamaican Dream - it's an awesome strain.

The pots are 6 gallons and I have 600W hps in 19 sq ft. I want to see how the room responds to sub-zero outside temps. As it is now, I have just enough exhaust ability (4 inch ducting) to cool the room to 80-81 degrees with a 73 degree intake temp. This winter, I should be able to get intake temps down into the 60s or lower. If so, I'll probably add another 600W. That'd give me 60+ watts of hps per sf., and I can use the wattage to heat the house. As is, I get a lot of reflected light off the close walls, like a tent would. My humidity has been running 60+, and that will also drop with sub-zero temps - is low humidity a problem for cannabis? Anyway, humidity hasn't shown itself to be an issue for me so far, just high summer temps. So, I don't have a lot of control over my environment, but so far it's been acceptable. I'll have to see how winter goes.

Things are looking great, I just got caught up. I noticed what might be eggs of some type on the underside of JD at 92 days in post 193 I think it was, it is a pic looking up at the underside of leaves. I am sure it is nothing, but spoke up just in case :)

Things are looking lovely :thumb:

Thanks for pointing that out, Rain! Hmm, those are probably fungus gnats - not eggs. I've always had 'em, but they can't seem to get a good population built up. I've had them in the house for 10+ years. They really liked the soil in a 15 yr old indoor hibiscus and finally killed it this spring. Well, I killed it with neglect. It was old and really needed some work on the soil. I've been tolerating them in the grow room to see if high brix soil really does keep them at bay. So far, yes!

High humidity and high temps will create wispy, soft buds with lots of leaves.
Low humidity with normal temps will be OK....but the plants will be stressed and it makes a cozy home for mites.

I've always said----at least a hundred times----nothing is more important than the environment.

You'll do OK with what you're describing.....but I sure wish you were in larger pots! That's why your leaves are yellowing.

You didn't by chance put something in the bottom of the pot for "drainage" did you? If so, don't do that ever again! All it does it make the volume of useable soil less.
