I don't remember washing instructions that called for hot water. Is it really in the directions somewhere?

The hot water came from my own bad self. :cheesygrinsmiley: I wanted to fix as much color as I could, and the hot and cold will help do that.

I do mine in the sink with hot water straight from the tap on one side and cold on the other. I typically get a gritty ring on the hot side when I drain it, but not a significant loss of trichs, I'm quite sure. Terpenes are another matter.

My produce typically dries at 80+ degrees, so that may be a bit too hot - thanks Conradino.

Ya Major , it is...I just read it somewhere the other day. It said ,and I quote..."as hot as your tap will give you". The method went on to say three buckets are used one with hot, one with warm and the last one with room temp. I think that's how it was said. When I heard the hot water thing I just couldn't believe some growers were actually doing it!
Oh and just a note on drying room temps....best conditions for a nice slow dry are...a cool, dark room, period. By cool I mean not over 70 F. This will give a lil slower dry which is better than a quick one at , say 75-80. That's when you'le start to get it drying too fast leading to uneven burning and harshness. The slower you can get it to dry ....the better it will be.

"As hot as your tap will give you" isn't part of Doc's instructions and I bet he probably doesn't recommend it. That comes from me. I continue to wash that way and I don't really have any complaints, but if I decided to concentrate on preserving terpenes, I'd stop doing that and use room-temp water.

And also to clarify: I put the baking soda and lemon juice into the hot side and rinse in the cold one - just two buckets/sinks. There are also commercial produce washes that we could use instead of the lemon/soda. Sierra Natural Science makes one. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Thanks for clarifying that Gray! Someone else said the hot water thing too, it wasn't just you. Have a great day pal! Cheers eh.

LOL, no, it's me. Curso first brought it up and I decided to try it. It's in the early pages of the Bud Washing thread. :laughtwo: A couple other growers have incorporated it into their own blogs and the instructions they've posted.

We have a big soaking tub. As a result we have to run our hot water heater really hot or we run out trying to fill it. If I washed my produce with tap water as hot as it will get, I would end up with cooked (blanched) cannabis. :thedoubletake:

I tried the SNS wash, and wasn't too pleased with the results. It left a soapy taste to the buds even after the clean water wash following the SNS bath.. I graduated to the lemon juice/baking soda which seemed to leave no residue/taste on the buds.

I got another set of pictures today, so it's time for another update! :tommy:

My environmental conditions are very nice right now, so everything has had a chance to gather its breath and get back to business. I have RH in the 50s and temps between 73 and 86. Desfran is completely uncontrollable, though, heheh - now it's decided to grow some more at the tips. Tick, tick, tick ... I'll be happy the day it gets the chop. But! ... there were a few dead toasted buds and I snipped 'em off and sampled 'em and whew, my goodness gracious this is some nice weed! Fabulous spicy lime scent and a pretty damned good punch for something so immature. I'm reminded of landrace Colombians - very nice cannabis, this Desfran. Supposedly 3 weeks to go - I doubt it.

Tikal just finished Cat drench and is looking surprisingly good. The fade has halted and the buds have swollen - hard to ask for much better. :cheesygrinsmiley: This one is scheduled to finish in 3 weeks, too, and it looks like she'll hit it. The fruity aroma keeps getting stronger.

Great update, and plants. I'll puff to you...

I can't be the only one who scrolls through these updates with a steady stream of "Holy S--t Graytail!"

Once again..... :adore:

Thanks for making my Monday complete. :battingeyelashes:

I never noticed before, have you modified your pots with attached rings for tie-off points?

Yes ...I'm glad some of you are listening to this chit chat about using scalding hot water to wash your precious buds. I'de bet , as well BK your right ...there was some resin in your water....how can there not be...you guys are using HOT water! Resin does not behave well when heated up...remember this. Too cold will also have a negative affect, as it will cause the trichs to become stiff and brittle allowing gland heads to break off the stalk ....right into your nice bucket of scalding hot water and not your jar ,where it should be going. Yes , I can't believe nobody has questioned this scalding hot water issue before now! I know Doc. and a bunch of us here on the mag. wash their buds using this method and all appears to be OK, with taste ,smoothness and all of that but for me.....i'l NEVER soak my buds in HOT water, especially with baking soda and lemon juice to boot! I know ....I know, some of you will wonder "what the fuck" but I had to get this out of my system.Cheers Gang!

Ive said previously many months ago we are not blanching the weed and shouldn't be using very hot water.

That's quite a bunch there :smokin:

Nope. You're not the only one...
AMAZING!

Just starting to read this mega thread, but in the meantime...what LED would be advised for a 3'x2' by 7' tall area? Starting to build out a cabinet and am researching LED lights :)

Fu*K me GT!! Nice update! All you plants look so good all the time and it seems like you always say your environment is having issues. I guess you got the Midas touch. Your Tikal looks awesome. We definitely have different phenos. You say yours smells like fruit, mine is as far from fruit as it gets. You got a ton of resin, me....not so much, I mean to the level you have it. I had none on the fans. The little sugar leaves have nice resin but nothing compared to yours. Reps!:high-five:
