The tomato cages .... I've seen that utilized well in a couple journals. Interesting way to get support. Your wild child could have used one, eh?

. . .

I'm gonna use hollow poles for the posts, too, so I can drop rods, or even tomato cage legs, into them for built-in supports. :thumb:

Weird .. I was thinking of something along the same lines. Well first I was looking around for tall laboratory ring stands. I think they'd be very handy in the tent. Then, I was thinking of just building some pots how I want them, and building some rods into the corners (I was thinking rebar, but something lighter would be better).

Then I catch up on threads and here you are designing something similar. :high-five:

Cheers! :peace::passitleft:

I was thinking staples and duct tape.

LOL, I just had a mini-brainstorm (a brain shower?) ...

I've been playing with numbers, calculating volume, keeping in mind the thickness of the crate and the felt, and I realized I'd need 18 inches of height for the 12 gallons I want, and the crate is only 10 inches, leaving 8 inches of unsupported bag. So I'd need some kind of stiff bar to run between the poles to keep the bag square - tough to attach to the bar - then you bring up duct tape :laughtwo: and I consider that and reject it ...

And then it hit me! Another crate! I'll cut the bottom out of one and stack it on top of another - that'll give me 20 inches of crate and at least 18 inches of soil. :slide: I might even duct tape 'em together :;): :laughtwo:

Wow! Right before our eyes the whole time! :laughtwo:

Ain't life grand?

Where are you looking for fabric?

I took some pics of the Orange Hill Special harvest ...

I was impressed with the way this plant turned out. :cheesygrinsmiley: I got a dozen or so compact well-filled branches, each with a nice fat pointed cola - good firm buddage, jus' the way we like 'em. :partyboy: I don't have yield yet and I still haven't tasted it, but it was a very nice plant to grow and a snap to groom.

Wow Graytail. Double the root space. Heaps more light. In essentially the same footprint. You're going to have to train yourself to train them longer, don't you think? Get them bigger before flip?

Extra points for the natural light. Yeah. Beautiful. Inspirational even. :high-five:

I've been doing my best to hold back! :laughtwo: I want one o' them ginormous ones like Duggan grows. Actually, I'm shooting for being able to finish one of my 12-toppers well, without all the rough edges. I have an itch for more soil - a lot like the need for more horsepower. :cheesygrinsmiley: When Despicable Me calls on my soil minions to do my bidding, I want 'em to put more muscle into it. :;):

Well I think you're on to something. I'll be excited to watch you pull it off in your usual masterful way Graytail. Any ideas on the fabric source?

No independent ideas about fabric source, no. I planned to check on your landscape felt, and look around for what others are using. The bags online are usually some sort of canvas-type material which would work to hold soil - polyester or -ethylene would hold up to the moisture. Dunno. I hadn't gotten that far. What's the conclusion on bag material? Do we want anything special or just something to hold the soil?

I'm of the opinion that a double layer of standard weed-blocker fabric would do the job wonderfully. I think all you need is something to contain and that would certainly do the job. That stuff is incredibly durable. You wouldn't even have to do seams. The fabric is thin and pliable enough it wouldn't bog anything up.

Hello happydude420. I just fell over you as I was stopping by this morning to check on Graytail. Welcome to the :420: community. If we can be of any assistance as you learn the ropes of our virtual neighborhood you have only to ask and any number of new neighbors will jump in to help you.

Graytail will be along eventually to officially welcome you to his journal. I live a couple time zones east, so I'm just earlier through the door, and I'm incapable of passing up a new neighbor without a friendly "hello". :battingeyelashes:

Beautiful buds from the OHS, Gray! Looking forward to the smoke report. :thumb:

Hard to beat the strength of duct tape to hold those crates together though. Even zip ties will degrade over time. Duct tape is the force that holds the Universe together. :laughtwo:

Seriously, duct tape. A good idea. They sell designer. You can get white Graytail. Your favorite shade for your GR.

If you use duct tape, let it seal outside the grow room in a lower humidity/moisture area for a day or two before using. Otherwise you will want to use some 3m spray glue as well.

Thank you 36. I would probably have never thought of that and then been frustrated by the inability of the tape to hold the way I expected. Reps for teaching me something so functional. :battingeyelashes:
