Graytail's 3rd: 4x4, HiBrix, Latest LED Tech, Lots Of Light!

It appears in my little setup that stretch is almost completely strain dependant. The grow I'm doing right now is a good example. The GASS Indica dominant plants stretched not at all. They finished quick and were very compact right till the end. The Tigers, on the other hand, tripled in height and will be around at least 6 weeks longer. Same pots and soil. Same lights and photoperiod. Same temp's and RH. Previous grows yielded the same results with varying amounts of stretch depending on what was grown.

Lots of good info happening here, just getting caught up. The stretch is very unpredictable for me too. Some sativas I've run I flipped them with the anticipation of a decent stretch and got almost none (zamaldelica and Malawi) which I feel hurt my yield. Now the Tikal should be a yoga teacher with the amount of stretch it has under the same conditions as the non stretchers. Tikal is by far my biggest yielding plant going from a 1 gallon to a 10 and flipping. I feel that is due to the 300% stretch. Now that I have done some repeat strains I can plan my veg accordingly.
Shiggity I do have a programmable LED that will let me adjust the spectrum from 0 to 100%. There is 3 different spectrum settings with 8 programmable variations per spectrum. In the right hands you could program the varying intensities of the spectrum to match the sun as it moves throughout the day. It isn't sponsored so I'll pm you if you want more info, just let me know.

I have has less stretch under 11/13 than under 12/12. I have not gone back to 12/12 to confirm there is another factor at work.

As it happens, I have gone the opposite, now at 10.5/13.5.

I dont get much stretch either..I grow completely under the 10.5/13.5 seed to weed..many days less too :thumb:

I just harvested a Snowcap at 48 days under 10.5/13.5, previous runs were 58 & 59 days.
On average, I harvest in the 60s instead of 70s these days.

How does the yield compare?

How does the yield compare?
( 12/12 vs 10.5/13.5 )

Yield will be about the same (still drying) but I can't honestly compare because I rushed a bunch of plants when my wife broke her ankle and she started smoking over an ounce per week. It's only the last month that I have been able to let the girls start to veg large again.

Cannabis blessings to all :ganjamon:

11/13 brings out the sativa in most strains. Add HB soil to that mix and everything comes out sativa dom. I ran into DJ Short at the cup here in MI last year and chatted with him about it. He basically said the same things he said in that video, its was just cooler to ask and hear it first hand. He was a super nice dude...and loved the smell of the HB flowers, actually said "really nice flush"....to which I replied: "flush?!?!?!" lmfao....

Good to see ya GT!!!!

I see these conversations go in cycles, I was reading doc's thread the other day, same shit you and I have talked about years ago....LOL

Thanks for the laugh. :laughtwo: That's an interesting statement about the lighting bringing out the sativa influence. I hadn't considered it from that point of view. Good lord, you guys are going to turn me into someone who actually knows what she's talking about. LOL! Hmmmm..... This will inspire me to shift back down to 11/13. Ziggy took it lower and he's really happy. I think I had my last grow down to 10/14 to rush the harvest. 11/13 will accelerate the timeline of my taster pots, should I ever get my butt in gear and get them planted. They'll all be in HB soil. (Sorry Duggs - small pots again.)

Good to have you here. I'll stop saying that after I get past the initial glow. :battingeyelashes:

Seshan, the next class of students :)

Susan....small pots.....bahhhh!

Just a couple Duggan, I promise. :laughtwo: I have too many seeds I want to taste that won't be good candidates for making oil. The majority of my grow space is dedicated to medicinal now, but I'm still a recreational girl. I need to meet my fun needs too and I can't afford to give up big pots just to indulge my need to be high. Life was simpler when all I did was grow for pleasure, but this direction my life took was kinda destined I guess, so I'm happy.

Good post, man. I'm so bummed how persistent this flushing thing is, and I don't mean hydro. I read posts from organic growers all the time who flush as a principle although there's no science behind it. There's like a wall here, you start explaining it as pointless to someone, but it's like shouting in the desert. Some growers still believe it cleanses your buds, although it's absolutely impossible

Yep next generation of growers really take it to the next level.

Thanks Neiko I think I know exactly which light you have. It's a professional model used in greenhouses that will give you the "Lumens to grow" I have heard nothing but praise from those lights. They were the ones I saw in a video of commercial hps setups adding these adjustable spectrum LEDs to enhance the terpene profile.

I am hoping the Far red LEDs I am getting for next grow will allow me to use 12-13 hours of regular light and still get the 13 hour darkness pheno. I am really curious how it will affect the mostly indica strains I have as well as the sativa strains.

Morning Conradino, always nice to see you and hear what you have to say! Cheers eh!

Hey Conradino - do you think there are other reasons why it might be beneficial to flush besides the "cleansing the buds" theory (I agree with you that there's no point in cleansing the buds of an organic grow, by the way). The taste argument aside, I think a flush does help clear any salts that may have developed around the roots, and if you couple a flush with lowered temps you stress the plant out and can trigger that final, desperation push of development as she tries with all her might to attract pollen.

However, I'm a hydro grower, not an organic grower, so maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about :D Always good to learn something I don't know. Appreciate your insight.
