GratefulBud's Summer 2023 Outside Grow

Yikes!
Wonder if they are predators or just stem suckers?
I did not seen any bugs yesterday when I removed the netting so that’s a good sign.
I don't know. I'm not really sure what they do, or anything. I suspect that they eat leaves. The netting should really help, but they seem to be pretty persistent. I damn sure don't trust'em. Your plants are flowering out great. They're gonna be nice.

What are you growing? Got any pics?

So I googled "insect that looks like a 1966 Volvo Coupe". Nothing
"Insect that jumps around, hides and spits". Nothing.
"Leaf hopper". Bingo. Specifically, glassy-winged sharpshooter. Little buggers must love that rosemary taste.

That's what is crawling around on my plants. In the past I saw only a few big ones. Now I'm seeing a lot more smaller ones. Let the spraying begin.
I'll try the Dr. Bonners Hemp Baby Castile soap first. I read that you can add a little Iso alcohol to the soap and that makes it work better. I may try that.

Meant to give my plants a bit of peroxide one time and accidently grabbed the bottle of iso instead.
The bottles look so similar... Plants didn't like it at all and was at least a week before I realized what I did lol.
Was wondering why my plants were dying and smelled like alcohol.

Careful with the alcohol. I tried a mix with it and h2o2, neem and tea tree oil and something in there (I think the alcohol) fried my leaves.
Gotcha. I think I used it one time with 9 parts water to 2 parts ISO. I forget whether it did anything positive. I'll check my notes.

I may just start out with the Castile soap only.

Wasn't foliar in my case. I had mixed with their water because I thought there was a root rot issue.
Might be fine for IPM in low enough concentrations.
Plants are looking great though. I get those leaf hopper buggers here too.
There's mostly the little green ones with red stripes but sometimes spot the odd brown one too.
The good news is they don't cause much damage compared to the million other insects that love to attack our plants.
They mostly put a bunch of pin holes in your foliage. I've been taking the lazy approach and just letting them munch a bit unless I'm there to pick em off lol.

Yeah I have had them before and they didn't impact my harvest. This year seems to be quite a few more than last year.

What ratio do you use?
4 tablespoons/gallon. Just sprayed this morning for aphids on both plants!
Iso alcohol
Alcohol dissolves trichomes so tread carefully. I thing the castille alone should be fine, though it's for mites/aphids/thrips. Not sure if it does anything for bugs shaped like a 1966 Volvo Coupe.

Gak that sounds awful! My H2O2 comes in opaque brown bottles and the iso comes in smokey clear so they're easier to tell apart.

Ha!
Google 1966 Volvo Coupe, then google glassy-winged sharpshooter. Quite the resemblance.

When I looked up how to get rid of them, Castile soap was first option.

Yeah, that looks like'em. I saw there it said "there are over 20,000 different species of them." The ones I've been battling are hard shelled, like a '66 Volvo.

I've got 3 THC Bombs in different stages, and a Strawberry Cough. I would show some pics, but I have to stealth grow. Trying to stay off the radar. I mean legalize it already.
Barbarians.

Yep. I just sprayed Castile soap this morning. Did not see very many but I know they are there. Sneaky buggers.

That covers you for up to 40 days by my calculations! I also use unscented Dr Bronners castille soap in flower with no ill effects. The instructions for Spinosad say up to 6x per growing seasons. Not sure what your point was though. :hmmmm:
Hey Shed :)

What is the Dr Bronners mix again? I have some but I’ve never used it. And is it an apply wash off application?

And GB you are SMASHING it bruv!
Thanks T!

The SNS209 really helps to keep critters away. I think I have my feed routine more dialed-in this time as well.
  • Yellowing lowers = feed more, especially Nitrogen
  • Brown tips / leaf edges = dial it back a few notches
Of course the two in SIP buckets are gigantic just because.
