GratefulBud's Summer 2023 Outside Grow

About time for a full update. . .

6 plants outdoors. Sprouted around 4/19.
Royal Queen Seeds
(1) Mimosa
(1) White Widow
(1) Watermelon
(1) Critical
Also have (1) SFV OG and (1) SFV Gorilla OG. These two are in SIP buckets with Grow Dots. I'm supplementing with FF nutes as needed. Kind of a challenge - the leaves are either yellowing or burning.
The other 4 in fabric pots are fed Fox Farms Trio.
Adding SNS209 every feed / water
All showed pistils and definitely in flower around July 26th - 15 days in flower.
The two in SIP buckets are looking good. The OG had a rough two weeks but I think she is back on track - although still drinking less than a gallon per day (it's been cooler). I put bamboo sticks in both SIP buckets to help with training and support. I also decided to use one of the xtra large nets on the OG. Had to get creative to keep the netting off of the tops. Still working on my other netting idea.

The Gorilla looks really good except for the yellowing lower leaves. I've been supplementing with FF nutes to keep her happy but it's challenging. They either get yellow leaves or they get nute burn. Trying to find the happy place. Also put the large (4 inch opening) trellis netting on both SIPs to keep colas from falling over. This may or may not work. Will see.

The other 4 in fabric pots are looking fantastic IMHO. I've been feeding a lite dose of FF nutes every day. Thought I would see more lower yellowing but not yet. Not seeing nute burn either so that's good. Just slightly brown leaf tips.

Critical Kush

Mimosa

Much cooler yesterday and today - we even had a little rain. Overcast and cloudy again today. Should be cooler for the next 5-6 days (under 92˙).

Overall I'm pleased with all 6 plants. My best grow yet (knock wood). I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop but so far all good. Hope I didn't jinx it but there is always something, or bugs wanting to join the party.

I sprayed all with BT today. The netting will also help keep the caterpillars away.

Hope you are having a great day!

Your plants look really good. 🍋

Damn! Those are some mighty fine looking ladies, GB!

You may or may not need the netting- SIPs grow some incredibly strong branches...I've only completed 2 in SIPs, though, so that may not be the case for all SIP plants.
Good to have it on there if you do end up needing it...

You gonna have enough jars when the time comes?
Because you're going to have an official "shitload" of weed, come harvest time.!.:lot-o-toke:

Agreed.

Probably not but I have a few friends who are patiently waiting for some goodies so they may assist. I give most of my harvest away.

I get those too. I don't know what they are either. I picked one up back last week to squish it between my fingers, and it bit me. Whatever they are they're hard to kill.
Yikes!
Wonder if they are predators or just stem suckers?
I did not seen any bugs yesterday when I removed the netting so that’s a good sign.

Love the way this grow is coming along! I have two questions though. I recall that sns209 has a certain number of days to use it before stopping. Also, Carcass seems to have the Dots formula in terms of what to add before they run out and doesn't get yellow leaves anymore. It's Purpinator but I can't recall the amount per gallon.
Thanks!

Good question - the guy at the hydroponic store (Green Acres Hydroponics in Chatsworth) said it's OK to use up to harvest. I read a few comments online stating it can impart an off taste. Don't want that so I'm gradually reducing it. About 30 days from harvest I should be down to zero and will ride it out until chop day.

And yes Carcass adds Purpinator I think around day 70.
Here is his post on July 3rd.

She's starting to get serious about flowering now, so soon, I'll start adding a pK booster- I used Purpinator on the last ones (0-2-4) but this time I'm going to try some @Plagron "Green Sensation"
(0-8-9) that I won in the PhOTY contest in January...Obviously, I'll use a lot less than the 15ml/gal. that I used for the Purpinator- Plagron says 4ml/gallon, but I'll start at 2 ml , and work my way up to 4ml, if necessary...

For the past few weeks I've been adding a lite dose of FF Beastie Bloomz, but have now switched to Open Sesame. Both have a LOT of phosphorous.

Last year I sprayed Safer and washed off afterwards - but I made the mistake of doing this around 2pm thinking they would dry out before nightfall. That was not the case, and I lost quite a bit to rot. Not doing that again. If I spray and rinse off I'll do EARLY - like 7am.

This year I have not sprayed Safer at all - at least not yet. No need. Fewer bugs for sure but I'm worried about the SNS209 imparting an off-taste. @Emilya Green does a great write-up on SNS209 here. After review it appears I have been using way too much so I'll back down to once or twice per week, and then to zero the final 3-4 weeks.

Last year my largest plant was an OG - Tara - that yielded about 6 ounces.
The Gorilla OG in SIP bucket should yield at least double that.

I count at least 30 large colas and another 20 or so smaller ones.

I'm kinda scared LOL!

I asked because the instructions say to use it a minimum of 5x or until the infestation subsides, and then repeat two weeks later unless the infestation returns. They don't give a maximum which makes it unclear when to stop if you never had an infestation to begin with!
The instructions I have for Safer's say "spray weekly (7-10 day intervals) as needed up to three times."

That appears multiple places for different types of plants though there's nothing specific for canna.

Yeah after I reviewed Emilya's thread I've apparently been using way too much. Oh well. Hope it doesn't impact taste. As of today I'll add once per week, then stop entirely 3 - 4 weeks before harvest.

That covers you for up to 40 days by my calculations! I also use unscented Dr Bronners castille soap in flower with no ill effects. The instructions for Spinosad say up to 6x per growing seasons. Not sure what your point was though. :hmmmm:

I'm not gonna spray Safer unless I have to. I may pick up some SNS-217 and spray that if I see bugs.

My point was that they  do give a maximum, at least for many of the applications cited in the directions for use. I read that to be not for general IPM use every week.

They who? We were speaking specifically about the SNS209. What they say is: "gently feed the solution directly onto the root area of the plants every time you water or fertilize for a minimum 5 consecutive water rings or until infestation reduces. Repeat after 2 weeks or if infestation returns."

I'm not sure where the maximum is in there.

Oh. I thought we were talkin' Safer's.

So, in the immortal words of Roseanne Rosanna Danna, "Never mind!"
