Thanks, guys! I'd post pictures, but I'm too ashamed of them for show & tell.

The flush just about killed them. I knew a flush was not the cure, but I was surprised at how much faster it made them all go downhill. They were obviously starving. IMO, they appear to have severe 'N' and 'P' deficiencies - among other things. I had to wait a few days for the pots to dry out. I would usually wait another day or two, but under the circumstances, they received the rescue drench yesterday morning.

The drench I gave them was 12 ml Tea + 60 ml Transplant in 2 gal. water. They took every drop. I also removed dead leaves (which was most of the fans). They are a slightly taller, but overall look smaller now than they did two weeks ago. The newer green growth is stunted.

This morning they all look a little better, but it has only been 24 hours since the drench, so too soon to tell if they will bounce back. It has been 5 days since the flip to 12/12 = no evidence of sex yet. Depending on how they do between now and when they show, I'll decide if: 1) I let females ride in the bigger pots. 2) Transplant them into my regular organic soil mix and throw out the kit soil. 3) Cull all and give up on the entire grow. 4) Take the females (assuming there are some), put them back into veg, and move them outside in several months (also in non-HB soil).

I have not decided which way I'll go. It is too late to start more plants for another inside grow. I wouldn't grow more plants in this soil anyway until I understand what is wrong and how to fix it. I hate to throw out 2-1/2 months of work and hundreds of $$$, but if I can't make it work, that's what I have to do. Even if these bounce back, the yield will probably suck. They are half their expected size at this point.

I hope by next weekend to make my decision about their fate. The worst part of this grow is, I have no idea what went wrong so I'm not learning from the failure/setback.

Major, morning pal.....your problem has alot of us wondering too bud! I feel they will rebound and be fine. If it was me from this point on....it's all up to the plants...don't do any thing else to rescue them, if they don't snap out of it in the next 24-48 hrs, something went very wrong....what though ,,,what could have caused this. I prepared this batch of soil in my present grow, EXACTLY as you did Major, so i'm scratching my head too! One thing pal...what water are you using? Well, bottled, tap? Just a thought Major....it just doesn't add up eh....what has Doc said , anything yet after your latest attemps? Cheers .

I very much appreciate the support guys! :circle-of-love:

The water I use is the same as always = our well water. I've used this water on a pair of plants I've had for nearly a year in one gal pots. I'm keeping them as mother plants, and I'm glad I did. At least they are healthy and happy.

I agree - I've done what can be done. I'm not going to do anything else to try and salvage them. Either they will look better by the time I post my next update ... or not. If not, they are history. I'm still hopeful things will turn around, I'll have a few females to up-can, and I can get back on track. The next concern is, what will happen to them once they are put into more of kit soil in the bigger pots? Normally I'd expect them to love it and hit turbo mode. But from what I've seen so far, I'm not sure what will happen this time around.

This grow is an enigma, shrouded in mystery, obscured by a conundrum, concealed within a riddle.

:Namaste:

I'm not familiar with well water, but does it vary throughout the year? I know my city water does, even after treatment, but ours comes mostly from surface water. If your water went south it would sure explain a lot. :hmmmm:

[Edit] Crap, I just reread the part about the 2 mother plants ... :hmmmm: ...

Soil temps? Your biota aren't functioning ...

Well water - at least our well water - does change over time, but not a lot. We drilled the well about 30 years ago and have had it tested several times. About twice per year we add chlorine to make sure no bacteria builds up. We let it sit in the well for a few hours, then run it through all the pipes and let it sit overnight. The following day we run all the water out until the chlorine is gone. We don't use the water during this time. We have a pool, creek, pond and rain barrel for water while this is going on. We haven't done the chlorinating in several months (it was last summer). Other than that, the hardness changes slightly (110 - 130 PPM) and the PH drifts between 6.9 and 7.1.

As usual, your analysis is spot on; The soil biota, isn't. The BIG question is why? The temp was 75 while the soil cooked and now that it is in the shower, the temp ranges from 72 - 79 degrees. The pots are more than 1 foot off the floor (which has rigid foam insulation over it). I can believe I was too stingy with the Tea and Transplant with their first drench, but I did use all the amendment when cooking the soil, added Roots! when I transplanted, and also gave them one G.E. drench (with Tea). Maybe my Tea and Transplant went bad???

On a much brighter note, it is so beautiful today I had to get outside and I started thinking about the upcoming summer grow. The sky is bright blue. It is 50 degrees out. The snow melted and no rain!

I stockpiled some "ancient sawdust" and small pumice. This will be my poor man's potting soil. The sawdust has a small amount of 'N' and the PH comes in at 6.3. I'm mixing it 2:1 with the pumice. Luckily, being close to Crater Lake / Mount Mazama, there is no shortage of either product.

After grabbing my base soil, I went to the garden shed and mixed up some amendment.
From left to right: bone meal, lime, epsom salts (in small plastic tub), soft rock phosphate, azomite, blood meal, feather meal, and EWC. Still to come: kelp meal, neem meal, alfalfa meal, hi 'P' guano, myco, and humic acid. I will also add some of our compost.

All mixed up (other than the EWC).

I'll be cooking this until March when it will get the compost, more EWC and base mix. I hope to make raised beds so each plant will get 1/2 to 1 yard of "soil" to play in over the summer. I'm really guessing at the mix, but at least I feel in control and should be able to learn something. After a few years of trial and error, I hope to come up with a mix I'm happy with.

All in all, life is good. I'm not going to let one grow get me down.

Things look much better this morning! :yahoo:
With any luck, this grow will turn around. I lost a couple of weeks, but if that's as bad as it gets, I'm glad I held on. We'll see how they are doing next weekend...
