Grow back it does, at a surprising rate. I’d suggest you cut out shoots as you plan, but don’t defoliate the tops you keep.

I tried taking about 1/3rd of the fan leaves to thin it out my first grow about 3 weeks into flower. . It responded by stopping flower development and growing new leaves.

My theory this go round is to leave space between the colas so they don’t block each other, and let the colas I’m keeping get a good 6 inches above the screen before I flip to flower.

Literally every node will try to become a branch if it acts like mine does.

Here is a pic of one of my tips. Can you see how each node is becoming a side branch?

It does that until about 3 weeks after buds start to form. The bottom of each shoot stretches out and much as stretches up. Lol
Is yours doing this?

It’s why I’m thinning out this scrog so much. So they have room to stretch sideways.

The last grow they stretched sideways so much it defeated the purpose of reducing “popcorn”.

I’m not a fan of popcorn buds. I feel they just rob energy from the real buds

Yyuuuppp! That's the stuff! Got a load of that happening between the two layers. I'll wait another 2 weeks and give it another prune right back.

My canopy is so busy and full of tops I gotta do something to allow for more light I'm worried that I have actually got too many tops. I'll see what happens in the stretch and judge from there. I wont do anything until there just incase as you said it either pauses flower or hurts my end yield. I'll get some more close pics tomorrow. Thing is with the hps light it's very hard to get pictures!

Lol. The good news is that it does stop “branching” once into flower about 4 weeks or so.

I have no idea if my thin it out before flipping to flower plan will work, but it seemed logical to try.

You’ll get a good yield off the top knots alone, but I’d like to figure out how to maximize it without the popcorn.

Aaahh I see! They do look nice though! I have a couple of colars on the very outside of the trellis that have stretched a little taller I will have my eyes on these to see if they work out getting fatter than the rest.

I was thinking of another technique although I'm unsure if it's a good one or not. Schwazzing...... helpful as you remove 95% of leaves?? Maybe this is the answer to get the light right in there, but I'd be worried it's more detrimental than a bonus.

from my experience they will get a little bigger than the rest. It’s not a huge difference but it’s a nice bump.

Looking good in here my friend :high-five:

Cheers bro!
Me and @Glookies1 Have been trying to work out how to get the most out of this stumpy strain. Certainly trellis is the way to go and defoliation a must! But still leaves so much potential unlocked.

We wonder what the answer will be...

I tried Swartzing on my first grow. Defoliated about 50% after flowers set. About 3 weeks after buds first showed.

The kind of hated it. Lol. Plus, they just grew the leaves back.

Lightly defoliating they tolerate. They also tolerate more heavy defoliation late in flower.

That said, they may react differently for you. I’m under LED, you’re using hps plus I’m water only soil with an occasional worm tea treat, and I think you’re using nutes.

Again, it’s yielded well for me, just seems like there’s massive yield potential if you can get enough light to the buds.

It would be a killer outdoor strain.

I'm talking schwazzing at the end of the stretch and into flowering the 3 week bud point.
I like light defol but heavy schwazzing I'm unsure as that's suppose to be 95% defol.
No I'm the same as you no till living soil I just use Seed sprout teas and natural amendments in my compost tea to upgrade that microbial life. No nutes here my friend :)

That's what I mean I love the look of your grows and super happy but as you said wanna push them to the max and I love tinkering.... recipe for disaster right lol

One other thing. First two grows I gave it pk13/14 at about 6 weeks into flower.

1/2 recommend dose first time 1/4 dose second time. Both times I got instant nite burn. Like next day.

That said, it did help the buds fatten up,

Hmmmm what soil are you using bro? Would be interesting to know. I have been adding palm tree ash throughout the grow which is 0-0-30 and now into flowering i top up with bat guano. 0-16-1 so pretty much a pk booster when ever I water lol.

I do use some of the biobizz organic feeds in my compost tea to get the bacteria and fungi going that bit quicker but it's no where near at the rates needed if I was using it in a feed schedule

Oh tell a lie people!!! Naughty!
I do add biowetter (yukka extract), biosilica (occasionally), magne cal, liquid seaweed and few others that are mentioned in my grow.... but these are all fully organic products that are bottled and called fancy names that I havent got the time to make myself. I dont really call these nutes. As this if feeding the soil not the plants.

I agree. Molasses helps teas increase bio life.

I tend to just use worm castings and molasses for teas, and top dress with guano and kelp meal.

I actually just top dressed the other day so it can start breaking down and be available in flower.

I’m using M3 soil. It’s a “water only” mix.
I used to make and cook my own soil, but I don’t have the room now.

Yh bro that's the same as me I have added it into previous posts of what I add into my teas. All of the them use the good old back strap molasses. I also added the guano about a week ago before watering in and I added flowering nutrient spikes back in the middle of veg so they will be ready to go go by now. I dont top dress with kelp meal but I do mulch free seaweed from the coast and add that to the top.
