GG7's Indoor/Outdoor Grows!

Hey MS, and thanks as always for checking in!

I am going to be using some 5 gallon and some 3.5 gallon Air Pots. I don't have enough 5s for every plant I have, so I will pick the most robust looking plants of the 11 to put into the 5s and put the rest in 3.5s. All the mother plants currently in flower are all in 3.5s and I haven't had any problems with growth rate etc.

As you can see from the photos, the 3.5 size has obviously provided them with plenty of room for normal growth and health. :thumb:

No problem and yeah no kidding! Just how big are those mothers anyway?!? they look great!

:peace:

:peace:

They are about 4 feet tall, only limited by the max height of the growlight over them. I actually had to prune these several times over the winter to keep them from growing into the lights. Now that they are into flower, they have fortunately stopped growing vertically.

Just shows that cutting off the original growing tips doesn't really effect the quality of the flower tops you end up with, which in this case are the third set to come up from each pruning.

looks great goose! Will you have to bring your mothers in every day? I put my mother plant outside about three weeks ago and its starting to flower and we are in 14.2 hrs of day light. I had her under 24/0 lights indoors for about 9 months could that be why?

I may have to bring them in and out if I put them out before about the first week of April. In terms of daylight length... If you put them out before late May after they are about 4-5 weeks in, I have found that they will not reveg. I figure that they are too far into flower to go back at that point.

Based on past experience, I am good here until about April 22nd, and probably longer since they will be even further into flower mode by then.

In terms of triggering flowering before a literal 12/12 has begun outdoors... Last year, I started seeing flowering activity of some of my outdoor plants in July which was long before we hit 12/12 naturally. I think some strains only need a little nudge in that direction to start moving into flower mode.

Where are you located?

We won't hit 14.2 until May 11th.

I use this handy website to calculate my light/dark numbers for any given day based on your latitude...

Welcome aboard DonPaul!

Glad that you found my journal and will be going through it. I pride myself on thorough photo documentation of all the various processes that go into a grow, so I am sure you will find some useful info in here.

This place was very popular last year and there is a ton of input throughout it from many of the long time 420 regulars as well.

I have just recently started posting for this season, so folks are just now starting to get word that I am back and posting.

Feel free to post any questions you may have after you get done reading through what you read here.

Thanks again for checking in and stay tuned for further updates on my 2012 grow soon!

Cheers. :Namaste::thanks:

Hey, Brother! I can't believe you've been back since February and I just realized it! :sorry:

I have something like 85 subscriptions, so every few months I delete older ones and I've been so busy lately, I haven't really been searching for new ones. Just adding as I see posts.

But, I'm resubbed and all caught up now. All your plants look fantastic, and congrat's on Cody!

If you're taking votes, I'm voting that you expand the grow, but I guess you probably knew that! :)

Take care, Brother! :high-five:

Hi, im just starting your journal from the start, my last grow was 9 years ago and due to health reasons ive decided to grow my own so thats what im doing, but i do have 1 question if you dont mind me asking, my plants are a few weeks old now, and i have very little stretch and i do mean very little stretch, each node is very close to the next and the new shoots at the stem are more or less reaching the next node up all ready and thats before any leaves are properly developed, my grow 9 years ago had more stretch than this and that was using a proper light, this time im using cfl's and finding very little stretch at all, so my question is, is this a good thing or a bad thing.

My mistake we are at 12.3 hrs of daylight now so that just made my day! this is my spring fling hope you dont mind me showing her off on your journal but I think you might get a kick out of seeing her.

I vegged her under florescents since last summer. That link is awsome man. thank you!

Well, look at you! Like Mr. Krip said....how did we miss you? :thumb:

Looks like your doing great, as usual. I love the 3.5 air pots. They do a good job.
Esp, indoors when you don't have much room.

Gonna be fun watching you again! :thumb:

Hey Mr. K!

Thanks for stopping by! I figured that something like you described was going on, thus my decision to drop you a PM and post a YO! in your own journal! I hear ya about all the subscriptions! I have the same problem myself, and it is VERY easy to overlook a new post amidst several dozen subscribed threads! ;)

Add that to the fact that until very recently my updates were few and far between simply because I didn't have anything interesting going on, and wanted to wait until I had something to take photos of and talk about :goof:

Glad you approve of the current crop and progress1 Your stuff was looking amazing as usual over on your journal! I need to catch up with all of you guys too! It usually takes the completion of the first clone session of the season to get me into the mood to start talking weed again! :ganjamon:

There he is!!

As I just said to Kripp... I figured that you guys just hadn't noticed that I had started posting again, so before we got too far into the ramp up phase, I wanted to give you two a shoutout! I know that you are probably getting just as busy as I am preparing for the big 2012 growing season, and I wanted to alert you now rather than later. ;)

Thanks for the confirmation on the 3.5 Air Pots! I used them for the mothers strickly because of the size issue. I wouldn't have been able to fit 5 gallon versions in there three across. I was a little concerned that they would not be large enough for fully mature plants, but as you see, they have had no problem with the pot size at all!

In some respects it probably helped to keep them from going too crazy with vertical growth, which in the limited height situation I have in that tub area, was still problematic even with 3.5s. As I mentioned earlier... I had to prune them several times to keep them from growing into the lights

Can't say how pleased I am to see that both you and Mr. K are still at it as usual and ramping up for another what I am sure will be impressive summer grows!

I'm subbed in to your new journal and back on Mr. Ks as well, so expect to be hearing from me over there soon!

Talk to you guys soon and thanks again for checking in and saying HI!!

I'm really looking forward to getting the plants outside and getting the outdoor grow ball rolling! :cheertwo::MoreNutes::thumb::Namaste:

No problem at all! :)

Nice Gitter! Looks like you did everything right! It isn't as easy as people think keeping these girls overwintered, and by the looks of the plant in that photo, you should have no problems getting some good solid bud out of that one! :thumb:

Glad you liked the webpage I linked you to! It has come in very handy for me when it comes to calculating when my drop dead dates are for finishing up indoor flowering plants outside and when to expect my ourdoor grows to start to flower in the summer.

I figured that you could use it when you thought you were already in 14.2! LOL! ;) That must have been a relief to realize that you still had plenty of time left?

For me up here... frost is my biggest enemy and the most unpredictable, especially with this whacked out winter we have had! We've got buds on trees around here that don't normally start that stuff till the middle of April!

I'd like to think that our last frost threat will be over way sooner than normal, but I would hate to be wrong and then have to worry about dragging all of those big plants back and forth from the back room of the house to the deck, day after day!

My current plan right now is to wait until they are at week 7. If you recall from my GDP grow last year, they didn't start showing any tendency to change color until they had reached that point, so why risk the frost issue until absolutely necessary? Exactly! :icon_cool

Thanks for sharing!

You got a journal going right now? Let me know if you do with a link and I will definitely check it out!

Cheers. :)

Here!

Looking good! Hope you get something special from the purple White Rhino crosses.

Hey XL!

Thanks for stopping by! Yeah... I am VERY curious to see if I get any seeds or not. The dried male flowers were not as well preserved as I had hoped they would be for some reason, so hopefully the pollen was still viable.

Guess we will find out in a few weeks!

Thanks again for stopping by and don't be a stranger! :)

:Namaste::Love::peace:

I've gotta go down to the city tomorrow to take care of some things, so I won't be posting my next photo update until Monday or Tuesday.

Moved GDP #1 into a 5 gallon Air Pot cause it was starting to exhibit the classic symptoms of root binding. Filled the pot with Black Gold Waterhold Cocoblend which is what I will be using for all my outdoor plants this season.

Coco works best with Air Pots beccause it doesn't have Perlight and other rocky materials found in soils like Fox Farm Ocean Forest and Happy Frog that can clog the air holes in the sides of the Air Pot and interfere with the roots making their way out to these holes where to get air pruned. While I used the latter soils last season in Air Pots, the company recommends a finer grain soil like what you find with a Cocoblend.

Stay tuned for my next update early this coming week! :thanks:

I do have a journal its almost done though, its an indoor grow I did with a buddy of mine and it didnt turn out to well. To many opinions in one 5x5 area lol. The link to my journal is in my signature I would love for you to check it out.:thumb:

Photo Update 04/04/12
Flowering Plants Moved Outside • Clones Getting Bigger

I decided to go ahead and move the flowering mother plants outside after I was unable to stop a rapidly developing Spider Mite problem in the confined space of the bathtub growing area. Not sure where they came from, but they appeared about a week ago and I haven't been able to stop their advance without resorting to sprays and such. We are getting overnight lows down to 32 and even a few degrees lower some nights right now, so that should kill them off in a hurry! I don't like to spray Neem Oil and stuff like that once they are flowering even though I have been told that it is safe to do so, and the stuff degrades over time. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Anyway... Here are some outdoor shots of the four mother plants. You will notice that they are kind of oddly shaped now that they are apart from each other. This was due to the close confines of the tub, which as you can see from the previous photos, had three plants very close together. As long as we continue to have a frost threat, I am forced to move these inside at night if it is going to get any colder than 32. They can handle temps down below 32 if there isn't a frost threat, but best not to take any chances.

Clone Update!

You can see that they are all coming along nicely. Still a little nitrogen deficient here and there, but I am now feeding them Fox Farm Grow Big which should take care of that soon. You may notice a few Red Jalapeno sprouts in a few of these shots cause I am raising those up right alongside the Cannabis as I often do at this stage of the season.

So there ya have it for now! I plan to transplant more of the clones into their final Air Pots just as soon as I get time to totally disinfect the bathroom and rid it of any possible Spider Mite contamination. Not sure where they came from, but once they take hold it is really hard to get rid of them! The clones are pest free right now, so I need to make doubly sure that the bathroom is clean before I move any of them in there.

I will need that larger space though to put any more into Air Pots. Just not enough space in the closet area they are in right now. You can see how much room GDP #1 is taking up now in that 5 gallon!

I would prefer to hold off until I can take them straight outside, but we still have lows very close to freezing, and it looks like tonight I am going to have to move those four mothers into the back rooms of the house tonight and every night until after Friday morning due to a cold snap that came in today.

Don't think I could deal with any more than four right now out there! At least as long as they need to be shuttled back and forth like this!

I welcome your comments and any input you guys have about cleaning a grow area where Spider Mites had been a problem! :thanks:

loving the way them buds look in the first couple of pics, look so different to most other strains, im refering to picture number 2, was the seeds expensive to buy and did you get them from a sponsor on here so you can tell me the name, im really liking how them buds are looking the colour is amazing, nice pics

Glad you liked the pics and the look of that bud! Both the Blue Cheese and the GDP produce VERY dense HARD rock like buds that are really fragrant with a sweet smell unique to each strain. The Blue Cheese bud shown in that picture you mentioned already has its distinctive smell.

The original plant that produced all these clones was from seed produced by a seed company called "Medicinal Organics Nursery" of Northern California. You can Google it for more info. Many dispensaries sell this line of seeds, so I would call around to your locals and ask for that strain by name.

There are several strains of Blue Cheese out there now, but I am pretty sure that these guys were the first to introduce that strain, which is a cross of Big Buddah Cheese and Blueberry.

These mother plants I now have outside were never intended for actual bud production, but instead were kept over winter to provide the clones for this season. I just decided to go ahead and flower them after taking the cuttings so I could make room for the clones to go into the bathroom grow area when the time came.

This is why they are somewhat spindly looking plants compared to what I normally like to flower. You can see what both these strains really look like when grown for the purpose of bud production if you go back in my journal to October of last year when I harvested my last crop of both.

Since I flower naturally outdoors for my main crop, I harvest the first or second week of October which is when both these strains naturally mature if left to their own devices.

Thanks for checking in and let me know if you are able to score those BC seeds! :)

Cheers. :cheertwo::Namaste:

Hi My Friend :cheertwo:

I agree with Don Paul, picture 2 is beautiful.....man I love our plants!

Looks like your army is growing.

I used neem oil all the way to harvest outside once......couldn't tell any difference in taste.

Good luck with your battle...kill them all! :MoreNutes:
