No problem Papatater!

Nice to hear from you!

I just checked the PH of the cloner reservoir and the PH has settled in nicely at 5.7 which is exactly where it needs to be, so it should be smooth sailing through this week leading up to where I add in the Clonex solution to help encourage more rooting behavior. Will need to readjust the PH of the water at that time since any of these additives will lower the PH and require some PH UP solution to bring things back up to the 5.7 to 5.9 range where the best rooting occurs.

Stay tuned for further updates soon! :Namaste:

Best wished for another good season, GoldenGoose.

Regarding the dried bud and the limits of your license, any concerns with the stuff you have stored getting too old, and needing to refresh with new meds? Seems like on an outdoor/annual cycle like you've got, skipping a year could be a concern? Just wondering, I'm still really new at all this.

I've got a stash with some OLD stuff in it. Fun to pull out something you grew w/ a friend 15 years ago for old times sake. Yeah potency goes down, but it is still nice to remember. I keep stuff in glass mason jars and fill w/ CO2 before capping up. They sit in a dark box in the basement.

Hey GG7! Haven't checked in with you in a while! :)

Your mommies are looking nice! Looking through your stuff on taking cuttings again. Seen a lot on it, still not feeling confident doing it. Have a lot of losses. Specially with some plants that I'm just never ever gonna be getting more cuttings from... Blah.

Your salsa sounds epic, might be too hot for me... But my girl is korean, they breath fire.

EDIT: catching up, saw you got a kitten.. Congrats! We have a little boy kitty too. His name is Eli.

Hey FNCG!

As GT said previously... If you cure the bud and store it properly, it can keep in a viable state for literally years. I use Humidipak 72% RH moisture packets inside each of the large 2 quart jars I store most of my bud in. Every month or so, I open the lids and air them out for a few minutes and then shake the contents to redistribute the buds.

This keeps them all evenly stable inside the jar, and since the buds were properly dried, there is no problems with mold and other issues.

Some claim that the potency decreases with age, but I haven't found that to be the case with my stored bud. The stuff I grew last year is so darned strong anyway, I wouldn't mind if it backed off a few points anyway! :laugh:

Hey OG!

WOW! 15 years? :thedoubletake:

I can understaind that after that length of time the potency would likely fall off some degree, but as I said, so far with all of my stored bud, I haven't noticed any descrease in strength. All the stuff I grew last year is VERY strong, so I actually wouldn't mind if it eventually comes down a couple of notches in the potency department. ;)

Hey THSea!

Great to hear from ya! I haven't been on here much lately either since I am still just now ramping up for the 2012 season.

The Red Jala relish isn't too hot. It has about the same heat level as TABASCO sauce. Speaking of the Red Jalapenos... I will be planting the seeds for this year's crop this week! :)

Regarding the Cannabis...

I will be posting a brief photo update later today since the GDP and BlueCheese mothers have started to flower now after hitting to two week point of 12/12 yesterday. You can almost set a clock by these plants in terms of when they start to show flower tops. Literally 2 weeks to the day of changing to 12/12 and BOOM! There they are! ;)

I am also pleased to report that my clones have started rooting in the cloner as of yesterday as well. So far I count 3 GDPs with actual root spikes and one BlueCheese that looks like it is developing root buds.

The BC appears to be a tougher strain to clone than the GDP is since I had only 1 viable BC clone last time I tried. I lost several of the cuttings to black stem rot over the last week, but that is why I always take more than I need.

I added some Roots Excelerator to the water last night to help boost the rooting activity, and hope to be ready to transplant the best 3-4 of both strains by this time next week.

Stay tuned for the photos in a bit! :thanks:

:)

Once the first root spikes start showing up, most of the cuttings will quickly follow suit over the next few days. We still have a few cuttings in the cloner that will likely not produce roots, but I like to give them every chance to do so before removing them. My goal was 3-4 of each strain, so I think we are on track to have at least that many over the next week.

I will post another update when it becomes time to transplant the rooted clones into soil.

Stay tuned! :thumb::thanks:

Garden is looking fresh GG love them blue cheese showing off there beauty.

Roots on the clones are looking healthy and white, are these all preperations for the outdoor grow ?

Thanks GS!

Yep! The clones will be the outdoor grow for this season. I may put the mothers outside between now and the end of March and let them finish flowering outside cause the GDP will need the cold nights to turn purple.

Still have to worry about frost up here till as late as May, so I may have to flower them indoors where they are, which will mean that they will likely not change color cause the temp will not be cold enough.

Time will tell on that.

Thanks for checking in! :thanks::thumb:

First Clone Transplant - GDP #1

The roots on this first GDP clone originally pictured in my last update were really growing fast so I decided to go ahead and transplant it into soil ahead of any of the other cuttings being ready for transplanting. It is always best to transplant your clones when the root spikes are still less than 2 inches long because the longer the root tendrils get, the higher the risk for transplant shock from the roots being disturbed when put into soil.

Here is GDP clone #1 right after transplanting. The soil was prepared with Liquinox B1 transplant solution and some Kelp Extract. I have found that this mixture prevents any chance of transplant shock, and the Kelp Extract gives the clone some organic Nitrogen which clones right out of the cloner desperately need.

And here we have GDP #1 under the light station next to the cloner where it will remain until it can be moved outdoors and transplanted into an Air-Pot for the duration of its life. The other pots in this photo contain Red Jalapeno seeds for our first batch of peppers that will be sharing this light station with GDP #1 for now. Eventually, I am going to have to set up another light station for the Jalapeno seedlings cause I will obviously need to put the remaining GDP and Blue Cheese clones alongside GDP #1 under this station.

P1012635.JPG

I am hoping to have more rooted cuttings by the end of the week and will be transplanting the cuttings as they develop 2 inch long root spikes. The BC clones look like they are about 5-7 days away from reaching that point, as do all the other GDP cuttings that are just now developing root buds.

Not sure why this one GDP cutting developed roots so far in advance of all the other cuttings, but that does happen sometimes during a cloning session. You gotta just roll with what comes when cloning. ;)

Stay tuned! :Namaste::thanks:

So nice to see you posting updates again! :thumb:

very nice and can't wait to see more. I hope all is well my friend.

Hey MS! :)

Thanks! We are doing well up here, and looking forward to our first week of significant storm activity! :thumb:

We have had such a dry/mild winter up here this year that I am starting to ponder setting the plants out a month earlier than normal. Will have to keep track of the weather patterns as we head into April. Speaking of our dry winter... We are over 50 inches below normal for rainfall here and the Southern Sierra snowpack is only 30% of normal!

December was the driest on record here with no rain for the entire month! We have never seen a December with no measurable rain EVER! Weather records for Bass Lake go back over 100 years too, so everyone is very worried about what this might mean for the area both in the short-term as well as the long term.

I haven't posted for the last several months simply because I had nothing going on of interest regarding the plants. But now, we are heading into the 2012 growing season and things are ramping up.

Anyway... While this is predicted to be one of the hottest and driest summers we have ever seen, the one upside is that we will likely be able to start our outdoor grows well in advance of normal. The only concern with starting early is the threat of frost which normally can remain well into May in a normal year, but this year has been anything but normal, so I am seriously considering it.

I will be back with another update this weekend if the clones root when I expect them to.

Stay tuned and thanks for checking in! :)

GDP Clone #2 Gets Transplanted!

Another cutting started to root a few days ago and today was the day to transplant it into soil. I took some photos during the process.

I made up my mixture of Liquinox B1 and Kelp Extract and let the cutting sit in this solution while I prepared the pot with the same solution. I used Happy Frog soil for this transplant as I did with the first one.

P1012636.JPG

This was one of the smaller cuttings I took from the GDP mothers, so I was surprised that this one rooted ahead of several other more hearty looking cuttings. Just shows that you can never predict which cuttings will root first, and which ones will never root.

I am still waiting for the Blue Cheese cuttings to root. I have one cutting that is just now starting to put out one large root spike and a few more GDPs look like they are about ready to pop.

I will post another update once we have another cutting or cuttings that need to get transplanted.

:Namaste::thanks:
