Doing well here! Was just about to post a quick update on the latest with the clones. Coming up next! :thumb:

Quick Clone Update!
03/21/12

The two GDP clones that I transplated last week are doing very well and growing fast! I just gave them their first feed of Fox Farm Grow Big today since they obviously are developing healthy root balls based on their rapid growth so far! :MoreNutes:

P1012649.JPG

The remaining cuttings in the Turbo Klone are getting very close to being ready for transplating into soil. These remaining cuttings have taken a VERY long time to root for some reason, but I am pleased to report that I've got three BC cuttings with developing root spikes now and a couple of GDP cuttings at about the same point. I plan to transplant these this weekend and end this current cloning session.

Just in time cause the jets in my Turbo Klone have started to give out and the entire left side of the cloner is no longer getting adequate spray coverage. I have already purchased a bag of new jets for the next cloning session, so I won't have to go through the trouble of cleaning these jets when the session is completed. Just going to toss them, since these jets don't last forever and will eventually start malfunctioning and will loose their fine spray ability.

I got five sessions out of these original jets which isn't bad actually! :thumb:

As you can see, I have thinned out the herd quite a bit, removing all the cuttings that showed no sign of root buds after all this time.

I will be back this weekend with some transplant photos as well as some new shots of the mother plants which are heavy into flower mode now and looking great!

Stay tuned! :Namaste::thanks:

Hey Gittergreen!

Yep! Its that time again! Wondering now if it will be safe to put these out a few weeks sooner than I normally do. Our winter has been so over the top mild this year, that it already feels like the end of April around here!

Hey Goose! That would be wonderful to able to put them out early. I wonder what the almanac says for your area?? It sure could be safe, but you wouldn't want to hurt them if the weather changes on you. I am sure will do your due diligence first.

btw - really nice to see you posting again :thumb:

Thanks again MS!

It is nice to finally have something to post about around here! ;)

Normally we shoot for late April early May, but this year it is feeling like the last frost may be soon. I am definitely planning to take the GDP mother plants out there to finish cause we are still getting really cold nights above freezing into mid May and I definitely want the GDP to turn purple.

Today I went down to the city to renew my MMJ paperwork, and my doc upped my exception to 80 plants and 6 pounds of bud! :yahoo:

I must say... I am now very tempted to go beyond my original plan of only a few plants this season! I also got a line on possibly moving some of my last harvest to our local dispensary, so I may very well do a bigger grow.

This time around it is only going to be GDP and Blue Cheese though. I am really experienced now with both of these strains and I know what they need, when they need it etc.

My clones are looking really close to coming out of the Turbo Klone and into pots. I'll tell ya... That Blue Cheese strain is one stubborn girl when it comes to rooting! The cuttings are finally putting out roots, but unlike the GDP which puts out spikes all around the stem, these soon to be little ladies are only putting out one and sometimes two spikes, and then growing long and then starting to tendril out from that one or two first spikes. Wierd. Took long enough too! What has it been now? Three weeks + since I started this session and they are just now doing this?

I don't think I am going to attempt to clone any more BC since it takes too damn long, but I will be doing more GDP once this batch gets big enough to take cuttings from. The BC is readily available in seed form from Medicinal Organic Nursery, so I may just pick up some more seeds if I want to grow any more BC.

I am going to "attempt" to pollenate a few flower tops on both the BC mother and one of the GDP mothers and see if I can get any seeds. That would give me an interesting strain of GDP/Purple White Rhino and Blue Cheese/Purple White Rhino.

Not crazy about how tall those Rhino plants wanted to grow though, so I will probably end up with something in between the more squat statured GDP and BC originals and the more gangly Rhino.

Anyway... I should have another photo update in the next day or two when I transplant the final batch of clones into soil.

Stay tuned and thanks again for checking in and touching base! :thumb::Namaste:

:thanks:

^^^^^ That is super awesome (hate using that word, but seems to fit) about your new execptions! Can't wait to see what you decide to do with them all. I think this is going to be a grow for you this year, outside as well as inside :thumb:

super great news goose!

:peace: and I still feel so sad about your little buddy {sadface}

Thanks for that my friend... We still really miss our Kimba, but we now have Cody who is growing up to be an almost carbon copy of Kimba's personality. He doesn't look anything like him physically, but his actions are eerily similar right down to the way he interacts with the plants in the bathroom grow area.

If there is such a thing as reincarnation, then Cody could very well be Kimba in different cat clothes!

I will definitely be posting some plant photos with him in the shots this season so you guys can see him. I never did that with Kimba and I really regretted it when we lost him.

Thanks again for thinking of him! Means a lot!

I can't wait to see the photos with him in them. I am very happy for you!

Clone Transplant Update - 03/23/12
Three more join the party!

I decided to go ahead and transplant two more clones today based on their root development. The third clone, GDP #3 actually got transplanted yesterday but I didn't have time to take photos of the process, but I did take some this morning since one of the two is my first Blue Cheese clone to come out of the T-48! Not one of the more impressive looking on the top side, but it definitely had the best root development of any of the BC cuttings that are going to make it into soil.

Here are the photos:

Blue Cheese #1 (the shorter root spikes on the left side of the stem developed over night, where before there was only those two long tendrils wrapping themselves around the stem as they grew down. When I saw the additional spikes this morning, I decided that it was time to move her into a pot)

GDP #4 (GDP #3 didn't have a photo shoot for this phase)

So there you have the first string of girls for the 2012 growing season! Looks like I am going to end up with one more GDP and two more BC by the time I shut down the cloner, which depending on the root development on the remaining clones will be either tomorrow or Sunday.

Stay tuned for more updates soon! :Namaste::thanks:

Hey goose, I have a question for you if you don't mind....
Here is the situation. I have a plant that is growing wonderfully (i mean beyond expectations). I have fimmed her and LSTd her, but before I keep going I want to know if it is a female. So I want to take a clone of her and put into 12/12 to make it show sex. OK here is the question. Do I have to root it first or will it show as just a snipit from the mother? :thankyou: in advance.

No problem. If you put it in a glass of water with the proper amount of B1 transplant solution like the Liquinox brand that I use, it should start to show under 12/12 and it should stay alive long enough for that to happen. Usually takes about 2 weeks.

Cut the stem at a 45 degree angle to get it as much water as it can suck up. and mix a full gallon of the B1 using the directions on the bottle. Then just pour as much as you need into the container or vase you put the cutting into. Change the water every 5 days or so using the extra B1 solution you mixed. Best to put the extra into a bottle with a cap on it.

The B1 will prevent the cutting from getting shocked and should keep it alive longer than plain water would.

Great grow cant wait to see them outdoor gals again they sure were pretty last year:peace:

Thanks as always PT! :thanks:

I am looking forward to another bountiful season and being able to share the experience with you guys at the same time!.

Looks like I have lost a lot of my previous followers of my journal during my winter hiatus, but hopefully they will eventually rediscover my journal and learn that I am back and have resumed my posting activity.

Just transplanted a few more BC clones this morning. That brings the total BC clone count to FOUR! :thumb:

I still have several cuttings in the cloner that are very close to putting out some spikes. The stems are white, and root buds are all over them, but no actual spikes so far. Hopefully soon so I can shut down the cloner.

I need that light station above the cloner for the overflow of potted plants. I also need to replace all those failing jets in the T48 and get it ready for another session in a few months when these clones are large enough to take cuttings from.

Stay tuned! :cheertwo: :thankyou:

You don't even need the B1. It's easy to root clones in plain water, just like you did in elementary school. Too much myth about cloning making it more difficult than it is. Cut it off with clean scissors and stick it in a cup of water.:thumb:

The B1 will provide the cutting with some nutrients and help prevent it from wilting after being cut. At less than $4.00 a quart, the Liquinox B1 transplant solution is cheap insurance. ;)

Also... Not all strains clone as easily as others. I seriously doubt you would be able to root a Blue Cheese cutting in water when it takes close to 4 weeks to root one in a professional cloner. ;)

Speaking of clones... I've got one more BC clone that is just now putting out root spikes. The other four remaining BC cuttings have still not shown any sign of root buds, so it looks like that one remaining BC cutting will be the last clone to come out of the cloner, and once its root spikes are long enough for transplanting, I will be ending the cloning session which will reach the four week mark on Thursday.

Compare this long wait to the GDP cuttings which all rooted within 2-3 weeks of the start of the same session, in the same cloner.

Cloning Session Completed
Mother Plants in Full Flower at Week 3.5

We completed our Turbo Klone cloning session today after the two remaining cuttings had developed root spikes long enough to be transplanted into soil. The session ran for a total of 33 days, primarily because the BC strain is so difficult to clone and takes about double the normal amount of time most strains require to root.

We ended up with the following breakdown:

6 - GDP
5 - Blue Cheese

These eleven plants will be our 2012 outdoor grow candidates, with another GDP cloning session planned for late May/early June where I plan to clone out another batch for overwintering through the winter and into the 2013 season.

Check out some photos of the 2012 outdoor grow lineup! :)

GDP #6 came out of the cloner today as well

Have a look at GDP #1 after 2 weeks in soil!

We have also seen all 11 of our Red Jalapeno seeds sprout and we now have 11 seedlings just like this!

Mothers in Flower at Week 3.5

I went ahead and painted some of that Purple White Rhino pollen on some of the flower tops and the pistles have turned color which would seem to indicate that the pollenation was successful! :cheertwo:

My goal is to get some seeds out of some of these mother plants so that I can end my constant need to clone out my GDP and Blue Cheese every year. While these will not be pure bread GDP and Blue Cheese seeds, the Purple White Rhino was a very nice smoking strain with rich purple flowers and a pleasing smell and flavor! A mix of that with these two great strains might turn out to be a great new strain!

So there ya have the latest news from here! All the plants are doing great and I expect to have the clones ready to be transplanted into their final Air Pots at the end of next month and hopefully a move outside to begin their summer veg cycle.

Depending on the weather, I may or may not move the mothers outside in the next week or two to finish flowering in the cold mornings which will be needed to get the GDP to turn purple.

Stay tuned for our next update in a week or two. :Namaste:

:thanks:

hey Goose! Looks beautiful around there :thumb: Very nice! So what size air pots will you be moving the clones to when outside?

Just really wanted to stop by and see how are doing, but I see that everything is looking really good as usual! Keep it up.

Hey MS, and thanks as always for checking in!

I am going to be using some 5 gallon and some 3.5 gallon Air Pots. I don't have enough 5s for every plant I have, so I will pick the most robust looking plants of the 11 to put into the 5s and put the rest in 3.5s. All the mother plants currently in flower are all in 3.5s and I haven't had any problems with growth rate etc.

As you can see from the photos, the 3.5 size has obviously provided them with plenty of room for normal growth and health. :thumb:
