Hey HMG!

Thanks!

The plants have definitely turned a corner over the last few days, so I can continue on my schedule for cloning and flowering this year. :)

My GDP and Blue Cheese strains were my favorite from everything I grew last year, so I am grateful that these are the ones that survived the nutrient issues I mentioned. They looked very similar to your plants last year before I flushed and changed over to FF GB.

Cheers and good to hear from ya!:Namaste:

Welcome back, GG7! Those mothers are huge! Looking forward to seeing you grow again.

Thanks Twelve!

I've got my lights as high as they will go so I have had to prune over a foot off their tops so far this winter! If it hadn't been for the problems, it might have been closer to 3 feet! ;)

Growth has really started to ramp up since I started feeding them my trusty old FF GB.

Hello GG7, Sorry to hear about the loss of your blueberry kush!

Girls are looking fantastic some extreme bushes! Cant wait for the summer season to be here, hope everything is going well with you and the wife.

:goodjob::peace:

Thanks GS!

Things are much better than they were late last year. In October we went to a weekend PITA event and came home with a new little boy kitten we named CODY. He is a great little guy and eerily like Kimba reincarnate! Loves water, likes to help me in the plant room and everything.

I'll snap a few photos of the plants with Cody in the shot next time, so I can put them up here without breaking the rules. ;)

GOOSE!!! And Mam!! Great to have you back brother and sister!!

I wonder why you had trouble with your BPN?? I haven't seen any other problems thus far here, or with mine. I do know that Corey changed up his formula recently. I gave up my FF and have switched exclusively to the BPN.

I know you are a first rate farmer in all you grow my friend, so I will surely like more info!!

I hope all was well during the holidays and these last couple months, I was just thinking of you the other day, when I got out some Red peppers, which will be germinating in the next week or so.

Peace and God bless,
GT:Namaste:

Ohh, your Blueberry Kush did well in the POTY contest, it got my vote brother!!

Hey GT!!

Great to hear from ya! :thumb:

As I said in a few of my other replies, I think there may have been something wrong with the BPN I received from them last year. I was really busy with some pressing personal stuff the last few months so I couldn't stay on top of the plants as much as I normally would. Thing is, I never really needed to closely monitor my winter plants in the past. I just did so because I had the time. Didn't have that time this winter.

My over winter routine was always simple.... I just would feed them FF GB once every 7 days and water them when needed.

I did the same thing this time around but substituted BPN instead of FF GB, and several weeks later, every single plant just started loosing their green color. Especially the GDP. Since I wasn't on top of things, I kept putting off dealing with the problem head on. I figured that if I could keep them alive until March, I could just clone from the best looking areas and chop them. I tried a few flushes, Molasses flush, some Kelp extract treatments, but nothing seemed to help.

They continued to get yellower and yellower, and then leaves started getting brown spots and curling up and falling off. I realized at that point, that if I didn't find out what was going on, I wouldn't make it till March!

I was feeding them BPN once every 7 days during this entire period. So when I had run out of ideas, I just stopped feeding completely and flushed them hard. Kept with water only for four days and I started to see some new growth that was GREEN! After they had dried out a bit from all the flushing, I then began feeding them the FF GB, and literally a week and a few days later they were nearly all green again! Never seen anything like it, but then again, I have never had my plants take such a steep nosedive before either. ;o)

The BC fared the best during this whole episode. It seemed to have the highest resistance to whatever was keeping them from getting what they needed from the soil.

Glad the BPN is working for you and others who are reporting success with it! Just keep an eye out for a change in the color.

For me, I'm just going to stick with my time tested products and methods this season and leave the expermimental grows to the more adventurous growers around here. :laughtwo:

Hope all is well for you and your family as well! :)

Well I'll be!! I'm not sure what happened? I know there is a big difference in FF's nutes, not being organic, and BPN's organic Farmer's Pride. With organics it is essential to prepare them correctly, you kinda have to grow them too, along with the plants. Bubbling it for a couple days and feeding them some molasses is important, so they can be prepared to be taken by the plants, else only certain things will be available.

Well, on the other hand, I am glad you and the Missess are well. And I'm VERY happy that you were able to acquire another little friend in the garden and your home, I'm sure Kimba would love that.

I am anxious to see what's next in your garden my friend, and can't wait to compare our pepper grows, just put in a pomagranate and a plum tree a couple days ago, and have some muscadine's and scuppernong's going in the day after tomorrow, just got to finish the runners for them.

Great to have ya back brother! Peace and God bless,
GT:Namaste:

Thanks GT! Much appreciated!

I don't know what happened either. I'm just glad that I got to the bottom of the problem before I lost all of them!

I do have some seeds from the Purple Urkle/White Rhino cross from last year, but I really wanted to top off my GDP and Blue Cheese supply this year.

So... Do you actually have some plants growing now from those seeds I sent you? (Red Jalapeno) ? I am about two weeks away from planting mine for this season. I germinate them indoors and grow them up under artificial lights till about mid-April and then take them all outside after the last threat of frost has past. Going to use AirPots across the board and see how it goes! :)

Leaf Damage Photos

Before I did my extreme flushes and then went back to using FoxFarm Grow Big, this is what the entire crop looked like, top to bottom. I trimmed most of these leaves off as they shriveled up and died, but this morning I found these remaining damaged leaves on the back side of the three plants in the bathtub that I didn't see before.

You can see that I wasn't exagerrating the problem. ;)

Here are a few more photos of the last remaining damaged leaves that I just now trimmed off the three remaining GDP plants.

It definitely looks like a combination of nutrient deficiencies coupled with a BURN from some yet to be determined ingredient in the nute formulation. This damage was caused by feeding on a once every 7 day schedule using the prescribed amounts listed on the product label. PH of the nute solution was 6.2 to 6.5. Soil PH was 6.2 during the entire period.

I know that Corey is very proactive in this community and even offered to send me some of his new products free of charge, so I don't want this to become a rail against BPN or their products. The stuff I used was produced sometime back in 2011. Based on the priase his latest products are receiving here on 420, I am just going to chalk this up to a bad batch, or a tainted ingredient contained within the BPN product I used that produced the above pictured results.

The bottom line now is that I SAVED my crop and can now look forward to the 2012 growing season with optimism for another impressive crop of Blue Cheese and Grand Daddy Purple! :thumb:

The peppers aren't germed yet, I will start that VERY soon. I do mine the same as you, starting them inside, then they go out in my garden plot. I have those, some Bhut Jolokia's(Ghost Pepper), and also some Peter Peppers(look like little peckers, lol!!!) I will be giving them away to family and friends, the ones I don't use myself that is. I will PM you later, gotta tell ya about something!

Hey GG, nice to hear from you, was thinking about you yesterday actually, must be cosmic interference......Planted a red jalapeno a while back, it's off to a slow start but it's growing. I'll keep you informed.

Sound like you have things under control back there! :) I can't wait to get your "take" on my Hybrid Red Jalas! ;)

The local demand for our special Red Jala relish was so big last season that we have already run out of the stuff! I put it on everything I eat practically cause it is SO GOOD! Did I send you that recipe already? If not, let me know and I will send it to you. Our friends and relatives keep telling me that I need to patent the stuff and start a company to make it commercially! LOL!

It is really good and better than any Salsa or hot relish I have ever purchased commercially. I figure that 24 plants should give me enough pods this season to make enough relish for everyone that wants some and will still give us a enough left over to freeze till the next growing season.

Its a long slow process as you know, since the plants won't start producing pods until well into the season, usually not till late July and early August, with the bulk of the crop coming in late September, just before the seasonal change over to cooler fall conditions up here. This is why I need to start them early so I can get them harvested before the first frosts come in the fall. They LOVE HOT weather, so hopefully, you can give them what they like best out your way!

Looking forward to your PM and your news! Don't keep me hangin too long dude! LOL! :)

Hey OG! It must be a COSMIC CONNECTION at work! ;)

Glad that you have one growing. Do you have it inside or outside? They like things WARM, so if your growth is on the slow side, try raising the temp in their growing area if possible. You need to give them a room temp of 75-80 F for the fastest growth. With all varieties of Jalapeno's being a southern/equatorial species originally/genetically speaking, they need that heat to grow their best! :)

Maybe put a heating pad set on LOW under the pot wrapped in a waterproof bag or actually wrap it around the sides of your pot and see if that helps speed things up? If you do this, I would put the heating pad on a cycle timer, on for about 30-45 minutes depending on the pad and off for about 45 minutes. You don't want the soil in the pot to get too hot, but keeping the DIRT in the mid 70s is a good idea. A soil thermometer may help you dial it in.

I feed mine FoxFarm Grow Big once they get about 5 inches tall, once every 7 days and water in between when needed. PH wise, they are the same as Cannabis. Soil PH between 6.2 and 6.7 is optimal for the best results.

Started a few different peppers at the same time and the red is the slowest....no biggie. I use heat cause it is cold here too. Not as cold as normal, pretty weird winter. Had to start the peppers early since I will be doing a bunch of travel in April (normal indoor planting time for peppers here). They go out middle of May to late May. Send me the recipe if you don't mind. I grow Lemon Aji (Peru), pequins (Mex), hybrid orange chiles as well.

Thanks

All the plants are doing great since I have gone back to using my time tested Fox Farm Grow Big Plant food once every 7 days and watering in between when needed. My plan is to clone these plants over the next two weeks and then turn these over to 12/12 for indoor flowering to be finsihed outdoors before we get beyond the natural 12/12 outdoors in late March/early April.

On Saturday I cloned the GDP and BlueCheese mother plants and have switched the mothers over to 12/12 for flowering. I am going to attempt to pollenate some of the flower buds with that Purple White Rhino pollen I collected last fall and see if I can get some seeds.

I took about a dozen clones of each strain and have them going nicely in the Turbo Klone T-48. My plan is to choose the best 3 from each strain and let them veg through the summer and flower them naturally outside as I did last season.

Based on how much dried bud I already have, and the limits on my Medical Marijuana license, this will be the last season for me for awhile.

I will post some photo updates in a few weeks when the clones are rooting and the mother plants have started to bud.

Hey there GG7!
Long time no talk - lol.
Hope all is well with you and yours! Everything is looking good from the earlier pictures you posted.
So is your plan to conitinue with this journal or are you going to start a new one?
Also, when do you plan on regualr posts again?
Take Care and :peace:

Hi MS!

Things are going pretty well up here! Hope everything is going well for you too!

I'm going to continue to use this same journal for this final season since it is already well established.

I will be posting more frequent updates in a few weeks when I move the mother plants outside to finish flowering and when the clones are rooted and ready to be planted into soil.

That said, I decided to go ahead and snap a few current photos of the progress right now. Not much to see since the mother plants have only been under 12/12 for 2 days. The clones were all taken on the same day, so it will be a few weeks before there is really anything interesting to photograph.

I expect the clones to be ready to be planted into soil around the 9th of March. My plan is to select the best 3-4 clones from each of the two strains and toss the rest.

Since I plan to grow triple the number of Red Jalapeno plants this year, I won't have the room to grow more than a half dozen Cannabis this year. Then there is also the fact that I am close to hitting my limit on the amount of dried bud I can legally have on the property, so I wouldn't be able to grow more than this even if I wanted to. ;)

Current Photos:

Blue Cheese and GDP Mothers

I recently chopped the tops off of these plants because they were all growing into the lights and the lights are as high as they go. Some of the clones I took were actually some of the growing tips I was forced to cut off. Those are traditionally harder to root than cuttings taken from lower brances, but since I needed to cut them any way, I figured what the hell! ;)

GDP #3 Under Its Own Light Station

Blue Cheese and GDP Clones in T-48

The Blue Cheese cuttings are on the right half of the cloner and the GDP clones are on the left half. Just removed the humidity dome last night since the cuttings have stabilized and are now able to handle being out in the air without the need for misting or a dome.

P1012593.JPG

Here is my Polder temperature probe base unit that I have for monitoring the cloner water temp. The sensor probe itself is suction cupped to the inside wall of the cloner about an inch from the bottom of the water reservoir, under about 7 inches of water. I have a webcam set up to stream this image to our local network so I can monitor the temp without having to physically look at the temp at the cloning station. I also have an LED keyboard light that I use to see the temp at night when the lights are off.

This probe has an alarm that can be set to sound if the temp hits a certain point. I currently have it set for 80 degrees F. The alarm is very loud and I can hear it from the outside of the bedroom where the cloner is located which is nice. I try to keep the water temp between 68 and 75 degrees F which is the best range for encouraging rooting.

I will be adding some Clonex solution to the water this Saturday, and at day 10 some Roots Excelerator which really helps to jump start heavy rooting activity. I have leared that you need to wait about 7 days before adding anything like this to the water cause it also promotes the growth of slime molds and such if too much time goes by before the clones are ready to be removed from the cloner. :)

So... There ya have it for now!

As I mentioned in my previous update, I will post more photos in a few weeks when the mother plants have started to flower and the clones have rooted and are ready to be planted into soil.

Your comments and questions are always welcome! :)

See ya then! :thanks:
