First CFL Grow Using 30 Watt CFLs

hey, hows you jbc, go back a few pages and you will see some pics of a couple of days ago, ill take some more shortly and post them up as well, just charging the camera up

Below is my aerogarden ak47 cross uk cherry cheese, this is the first pics i have put up of this as i didnt expect it to live, i have since turned the pump off as it was putting to much water into the roots and causing some brown slime on the stem of the plant, i checked the roots and they are as white as white can be so i dont think it was anything to worry about, since turning the pump off the slime dried up and rubbed off easy and it hasnt come back, so i have now got 2 air pumps in the res keeping it ticking over, seems ok

roots out the water but if you look in the water you can see the carpet of roots swimming in bpn goodness

below is the greenhouse seeds auto bomb femenised, its not shown sex yet but growth is very tight, leaves are very rubbery and feel thick

now believe it or not this is the problem, or not problem anymore g13 poisen dwarf auto regular but is female, all i did was lst it to pull the top lower than the node growth and withing 24 hours it exploded with growth, looks like i need to put it in a bigger pot, it went from been a tiny 1 inch tall plant into this in a short time

below is my ak47 cross uk cherry cheese, 12-12 from seed replacement, it was planted at the same time as the male i removed, but it was in veg for the first 2 weeks and then went into flower room, not shown sex yet though

i did lst to some extent as i seen how good it affected the auto so i tried lst with this and it done the same, growth suddenly started at all nodes and its growing better than it was

below is 2ltr hempie, not sure if i need to take any lower branches off or not, maybe teSmp can advise, he told me not to a few days ago but the lower ones are getting longer, the upper ones are flowering at the stem

thanks for looking at my pics, im not expecting much of these plants as its my first ever proper grow, but if i get anything ill be pleased, but looking at the plants i should at least get a bit to last a while, but each grow ill be able to dial it in more and get the best i can from these amazing plants,
 
omg man things are looking awesome. I totally agree about LSTing autos. As I'm growing my 3 strains, Ive learned LST KICKS THE SH$T OUTA straight up. There are so many more bud sites and growth EXPLODES!

thanks deege, lst really does work with auto, everyone says leave them alone as it affects yield, but mine didnt start growing till i pulled the top of the stem lower than the node growth, as soon as i did that withing 24 hours the growth at the nodes grew the same size as the main stem, now i got 5 main stems and its still growing, i thought it was in flower but its just showing sex me thinks, it has got loads of white hairs so it is starting to flower, but it was growing that slow before the lst that i never changed the pot as it was 7 weeks old and 1inch high, withing less that a week its turned into that monster, so i think if it gets much bigger its going to need bigger boots to stretch its feet in,, thanks for the reps mate.

looks like all the hard work and great advice is paying off, i know im not going to get much this time round, but to get anything is amazing, a lot could go wrong where i am so touch wood it all goes well, its just got hot here as well, so got a big fan blowing on them with the grow door open, the hps pushes the heat really high so get fan blowing all the time the lights on now, keeps the temps in check, but i think my plants look amazing, and i got loads of people to thank for all the advice and tips, cuz i wouldnt be where i am now without the help and advice i received since joining this site,

SOS call from new member,

can any of you more experienced growers check this growers plant out, its seems very poorly, i have given him what advice i can and i think i have given him the advice he needs, its a new journal so wont take long to look through i think its 3 pages, or 2 pages and a bit, so can anyone please come over and check what i said before his plant goes beyond help, he used miracle grow from seed and changed soil now, but the plant looks ill, i think i have told him what the problems are so can someone please check my answers and see if i have told him right, he has only got 1 plant so dont want to end up killing his only plant,

the grower may read this journal but if not i can pass the advice onto him, the plants need bigger pots but he wants them sexing first so wondered what your views where on this and how long on average you have noticed the sex of the plants

Depends on strain, 3-4 weeks (I never count nodes) under 24/0 I normally can tell by looking with the naked eye. I'm not using the glr anymore I found the results poor and it brought my plants into flower. (mite be I have too much red)

the funny thing is the auto I have told you about before is around 40? days old. still not shown sex or even any sign of it. My only hope is the fact it's starting to STINK a really dank smell.

Looking good as always donpaul! How tall is the 2L in that pic? If you could measure from the medium to the top of the plant as well as the length of the main cola (from the tip to where the node spacing is getting pretty far apart). It seems like the whole plant is rather small so I wouldn't want you to chop off all of its stuff, however, like I had on the giesel was some smaller couple gram buds (about 5-6) of them which helped increase my yield. But on the other hand if I would have cut them off at first maybe the main cola would have been even larger. So it's really hard to say!
 
thanks mate, ill measure it tomorrow the lights are off now, wonder if its cuz i went 12-12 from seed that its not very big, it is pretty big so ill measure it and i know its still getting bigger cuz i need to raise the lights slightly tomorrow as well as its getting warm towards the top of the plant, so ill measure it tomorrow and post the measurements for you to check, it looks smaller in the picture than it actually is, when its standing at floor level its a lot taller than my other plants id say the bottle is the same height as my big pots then the rest is plant, its got to be getting on 9 possibly 10 inches, ill give it a quick measure when the lights come on,
 
Hey brother, chiming in on that hempy photo for ya! Now I would normally say if you are just growing the one, let the side branches go. But I know you were considering doing a full grow, so I would just lolipop it to one stem, this way you can see how it will develop as a single stalk......and DANG what type of 2L is that? its soo tall!! did you connect 2 of them together?
 
what i did was get a black 2ltr bottle and just cut the top off at its widest point so basically its just a couple of inches shorter than a full size un cut bottle, then i cut another bottle up for the part my grow medium would sit in and the plant, the bottom big part is partly filled say 3/4 filled with nutrient rich liquid and the roots grow out the top bottle through the part where the lid used to be and also out holes i poked in the bottle, so all the roots now are growing down into the liquid and their drinking like crazy, i have a hole so far up the top of the bottom piece as an over flow if i ever water to much but i dont let it fill that high, i noticed after 2 days the plants have turned the colour of the nutrient mix clear instead of a light red colour so they must be taking up all the nutes they need and leave the water and stuff they dont need, but they really do drink loads, possibly more then i would water them, well thats how it seems, i got the idea from teSmp, he just put some pivs up of his and his roots are massive in the bottom part, full of roots,

things looking goood in there bro. YOu say mine are further ahead but I reckon they neck and neck bro. Will be good to see if the hps can smoke the CFL.
 
the race is on then my friend, im getting more stretch with the hps than i did with the cfls, even young plants under the dual spectrum are stretching a lot more, possibly due to the light been further away cuz of the heat.

HELP, I DID SAY HELP, AND ILL SAY IT AGAIN, FUKIN HELP,
i been seeing these small flies, i call them fruit flies, they usually eat my cactus and their is loads of em flying around, i looked at my plants and their is some running about in the soil of the special kush, their not like the mosquito type gnats, these are small tiny flies, i think their fruit flies, i dont see them in the soil of my other plants just the special kush,

so how do i get rid of them, i cant use anything harsh cuz its well in flower, is their any home remedies i can use to get rid of them, im not even sure if their causing harm to the plant, nothing looks eaten but if their laying eggs in the compost then i could have problems, but my flat has a few flying around that my dog chases, and their all out side, its been pretty wet here lately and now the suns shining and its hot and its bought a load of bugs with it, how can i treat this, their only just big enough to see and scurry across the compost, but they do fly around as well, they look like minature flies,

now im not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, but i have had to pull some lower leaves off that where dead, at first i was thinking its the life cycle of the plant, but all the bud leaves and upper leaves look ok, these are lower down and closer to the pot, some of the inner leaves that got no light had dies so ive been removing these from the soil to stop any rot, but their are more leaves turning light green to yellow colour, all the lower big fan leaves are turning colour but all the bud leaves are a dark shade of green and look healthy, the special kush is the worse, im not sure if its a problem or just what the plant does,, the nl x bb has only had a couple removed that died and that seems to be ok, so im hoping this is normal, but is their anything i can use to get rid of these flies, i have had the grow room door open due to the heat so they probably got in that way, but i need the door open to control temps, i dont see them on the plants and nothing looks eaten, no leaves eaten or anything like that, but i do know something eats my cactus and its these fruit flies, is their anything i can use to get rid of them, i dont think they will munch on the buds due to the crystals as the plant protects itself that way, but im not sure if they will get round to turning my plants into puke stew, i dont want puke stew, is their anything i can do and or are they going to damage the plant,

ok just maybe this will help.diatomatious earth read another thread that got me on the band wagon. go to your garden or pet store and find this it is consumeable by humans. anway get some and put a layer around your soil and make a folier spray with some dish soap. the diatoms will suck the moister out of the little buggers bodys and kill them DEAD and then after that you can rinse of any exsess.jsut my opinion hope this works for you. if you do try and look the post is in the faq cant link cause I aint figured it out yet:peace:
 
ok ill try and find it, to post a link you go to the page you want the link to go to, then write click on the url at the top the long http part, then click copy, then go to the page you want to post the link on, and in the box where you write your post you will see above it a small blue picture that looks like a world with a chain in front of it, like 2 links, click on this and delete the http and then click on the bit where you write the link and right click and choose past then it should put the link in your post then when you click post quick reply the link will appear when its posted on the journal you want to post it, you can put links from other sites the same way, im trying to find out what i can, they look like them gnat things, really small flies, hard to see but if i give the soil a quick mix i can see 2 or 3 running around, it says they lay eggs and the larvae eat the roots, possibly why some leaves are turning yellow, im hoping the leaves are yellow due to the age of the plant in flower, i dont see any harm to the plant been eaten and these things are just on top of the soil and some flying around, i squashed a few so ill keep doing that till i can find something to sort them out, ill need to try and get a lift to garden center some how, what is the dish soap method, is this just washing up liquid as we call it in the UK, i mix it with water and spray the plants or spray the soil i dont see any on the plant just a few in the soil, i wont water for few days and see if that clears them up,
 
yes dish soap. if you cant find the diatomasous earth then get some play sand and cover the top of your soil this to will stop those little bastards from getting in your soil and laying eggs. gonna have to read your post ten times cause I am not that tech savy:) but if you looik in the faqs I think you should find it with no problem. I will go and see if I cand find that post and get back to you:peace:
