First CFL Grow Using 30 Watt CFLs

ok thanks, im trying to find it, what im trying for now is, cuz i just moved the soil in my smaller pots and some flew out the soil and these things are only alive for 5 days, so my plant now is to cover my pots with newspaper, i dont mean like put it on top of the compost, but slid it over the pot with a slit in it so it slides over the stem and covers the top of the pot, so their is still a gap between the compost and the news paper, but im thinking if i cover all my plants like this as they was only watered today and tie it up so nothing can get in or out, and this might work, im hoping it does, the paper should breath enough for my plants to be ok, well im hoping anyway, if anyone thinks its a bad idea then give me a shout back and ill rip it all off cuz i all ready started, i got 3 hours before the lights go out and im out all day tomorrow, so if i can prevent the flys getting in to lay eggs and the ones in their wont be able to get out so im hoping this will get rid of them short term, possibly long term if i keep the pots covered, so the plants will be above the paper with the stem coming through a slit and taped up so nothing can get in the im pulling the paper tight over the pot all the way round so their is no gaps and im tying it to the pots tight so nothing can get in or out, im hoping this will work short term, if anyone thinks this is going to affect my plants then give me a shout back and ill rip it all off

the race is on then my friend, im getting more stretch with the hps than i did with the cfls, even young plants under the dual spectrum are stretching a lot more, possibly due to the light been further away cuz of the heat.

HELP, I DID SAY HELP, AND ILL SAY IT AGAIN, FUKIN HELP,
i been seeing these small flies, i call them fruit flies, they usually eat my cactus and their is loads of em flying around, i looked at my plants and their is some running about in the soil of the special kush, their not like the mosquito type gnats, these are small tiny flies, i think their fruit flies, i dont see them in the soil of my other plants just the special kush,

so how do i get rid of them, i cant use anything harsh cuz its well in flower, is their any home remedies i can use to get rid of them, im not even sure if their causing harm to the plant, nothing looks eaten but if their laying eggs in the compost then i could have problems, but my flat has a few flying around that my dog chases, and their all out side, its been pretty wet here lately and now the suns shining and its hot and its bought a load of bugs with it, how can i treat this, their only just big enough to see and scurry across the compost, but they do fly around as well, they look like minature flies,

now im not sure if this has anything to do with it or not, but i have had to pull some lower leaves off that where dead, at first i was thinking its the life cycle of the plant, but all the bud leaves and upper leaves look ok, these are lower down and closer to the pot, some of the inner leaves that got no light had dies so ive been removing these from the soil to stop any rot, but their are more leaves turning light green to yellow colour, all the lower big fan leaves are turning colour but all the bud leaves are a dark shade of green and look healthy, the special kush is the worse, im not sure if its a problem or just what the plant does,, the nl x bb has only had a couple removed that died and that seems to be ok, so im hoping this is normal, but is their anything i can use to get rid of these flies, i have had the grow room door open due to the heat so they probably got in that way, but i need the door open to control temps, i dont see them on the plants and nothing looks eaten, no leaves eaten or anything like that, but i do know something eats my cactus and its these fruit flies, is their anything i can use to get rid of them, i dont think they will munch on the buds due to the crystals as the plant protects itself that way, but im not sure if they will get round to turning my plants into puke stew, i dont want puke stew, is their anything i can do and or are they going to damage the plant,

Since your in flowering and dont want anything to Harsh, do these things. One let your soil dry our really good before your next few feedings. The things cant survive when it gets dry. So let them get a little dryer than normal. 2 the diatomaceous earth suggestions was great just have a layer on top and it will cut the little bastards down when they crawl. Also go to home depot or hydro store and get a pack of Mosquito Dunks...break them in half and put them in cups of water/vinger/sugar around your plants the fuckers will go there and drink then the dunks make them un able to breed :D And of course a no pest strip in the room. The dunk will take a little while to work completely but they will get rid of the infestions. The other parts are to help speed it up :D

ok still aint figured the link thing out .but on page 7 of the faqs is what is diatomaeous earth all about. look for that and it will tell you better

ok thanks, for the advice ill try and get to garden center when i can its quiet for away and ill need a lift so ill do my best to get their this weekend, do you think this newspaper idea will work, they only live for 5 days when their adults so if i keep the newspaper on for 5 days and only open to water this should kill any flies in the compost but what about the eggs, how long do these take to hatch and turn to adults, im so pissed off i got bugs, ive had hardly any problems, then the weather gets better and i get invaded with flies, their everywhere and the only plants i got for them is 3 tiny cactus but their bone dry and my cannabis plants, their pretty moist as i water every 2 or 3 days due to high temps as weather is hot, will this news paper work, i could use bin bags and really seal it up but id be concerned about getting root rot then as no air would get in or out, i even think the bastards are in my hair, cant stop itching, either that or the dog got fleas, now i gota check the pissing dog as well, if he got fleas he sleeping in his own room tonight, till i can treat him tommorow, but he not scratching so think he ok, its just me n me plants.

k thanks ill go and have a look, i got fairy washing up liquid is this what you lot call dish soap, its like a green stuff you put in the sink to wash dishes and cups and you only need a tiny bit to make a whole lot of bubbles, i think the mixture is 1tsp to 1gallon of water, is this what i do, then do i spray this on the soil or all over the plants, ill try and get the garden center and get some stuff that will help,

i just thought i got a shed load of fish tank gravel that i took out my old fish tank, could i put like 2 or 3 inches of this on top of the compost would that stop the little ba@#ards getting to the compost, if so ill go and get a bucket full and give it a clean and cover the soil in all my pots, i got exactly 3 hours till the lights go out, then im out tomorrow before the lights come on, so times ticking

all I can say my freind is try the sand or the diatomeseous earth is real fine and compact so little can penatrate it other then liquids. if you cant get that right away then roll with the punches bro. hoping the best for you:Love:

if you want to see some scary stuff look at the faq spider mites from hell some one has just posted in the faqs. make you feel better I think. not that someone elses dimise can make anyone feel better

@ fish cake, you see at the very top of the window, their is the long line of text that starts with http and has load of other stuff after it, well you go to the page you want to take the link from, and highlight the whole text line that starts with http, usually if you click on it once with the mouse it will light up dark blue, when it does this right click on the writing with the mouse and select copy or copy link location, and left click on that, then come back over to the journal you want to post the link on to and come down to the box where i am writing now but really its where you will be writing as if you was posting a comment on someones journal or your own, then at the very top of this speach box you have symbols like a capital B and it says font and size, well just to the right of the one that says size is a big A then a yellow smiley face then next to that is the world, click on this and a box will appear on the page with http written in it all ready, delete the http and right click on the blank line where the http was and choose paste, then click ok, this will then insert the link in the post and it will have url written at the start and end of the long line of link data, then when you click on post quick reply it will insert the link.

ill try another easier way to explain
1. go to the page where you want to take the link from or go to the site that you want to send people to, and at the very top of the window just below or above the tabs is the long line of data for the page your on, it starts with http : / / w w w but without the spaces, so click on this text with the left mouse button and it should turn blue, when it has turned blue right click on the blue text and choose copy or copy link location depending on what browser you use.

2, go back to the page where you are making the post and go down to the box where you write your message or response and write something like, below is the link your looking for then press enter so your the next line below what you just wrote, then look at the top of this box that you just wrote in and you will see symbols and big letters along the top, you will see 2 headers that say font and size, well the 3rd symbol to the right of size is the link insert option, its a blue circle with sunglasses in front of it, or a chain link, click on this and a small box will appear and it will all ready have written in it http, delete this so their is no writing in the small box, then right click on the mouse in the gap where you write the link and choose paste, it should then give a whole line of link data then click ok, then you can either carry on writing below the link or just click post quick reply and it will post the link.

now the best way i have found to do this is to have 2 or 3 tabs open on the site you want like this one, i have my journal open and a couple of others so i can flick back between them, that makes it easier to make the link as you just go to the one tab and highlight the link and choose copy and then go back to the tab where you want to post the link and that way i find is easier than having just one page open and loading each page up,

im sure you will pick it up soon, its pretty easy when you have done it the first time, it took me a while on fixya to get it sorted as im an expert on their fixing stuff so i had to learn how to do it on their, once i had done it i couldnt believe how easy it was,

i did see the spider mites, thats what im dreading, im hoping all i got to deal with is these flies, i got loads of gravel so i could put like 2 or 3 inches of gravel on top of the compost and would that stop them getting in and out of the soil, or shall i stick with the newspaper idea for now, chances are i wont get to garden center now till sunday or monday so i need some damage limitation till then

fungus gnats, thats what i think i have got, little bleeders, i killed a good few now, i sifted the soil with my hands as the top inch is dry and some came crawling out, i even got one with an egg i think thats what it was holding onto, so i squashed it and a few others,

Ill practice on my computer skills:) but maybe you should go with the paper tight around the bottom of the soil. the gravel seems like a jungle jim for the little buggers to crawl around in where as the paper would at least slow them down maybe with a good article about kim kardashian LOL..maybe some cling film idk:peace:

hey Don just thought I would share something that I just read up about. Ladybugs. Im sure you know they eat aphids and what not. But I found out how you can still use them outdoors. The source said that ladybugs DO NOT fly at night. If you go out just before sundown and put a couple on the bottoms of your plants, they will not leave until the food is gone. 1500 ladybugs for $6.50 US. I just had though that was pretty interesting and i know you are about to start a guerrilla grow. Your gna learn bugs ARE A BITCH outside. with pesticides or not. Ive don't a lot and in the middle of the woods its really hard. Even with me going out there daily. but yea just thought id spread the knowledge! especially since your so well at doing that too! :Namaste:

i was thinking cling film but it might make it sweat and rot the roots as no air would get in and the moisture thats in their will build up with the heat from the light, so im thinking the news paper will be breathable without letting anything in or out, i can always rip a hole to water and tape it back up tight again after, i just hope im doing the right thing, the light goes off in 2 hours 20min, the gravel i dont think would do a good enough job, but im thinking this news paper would do it for now, im using page 3 of the sun for my best plant, nice naked lady on page 3 every day in our favourite daily newspaper, so a different girl each day of the week, so im sure that will give me something to look at when i check on the plants, im hoping someone can jump in with the news paper idea cuz after the lights go out i wont be back till tomorrow night, i leave before they come on and wont be back till 9 pm so will be 20 hours before i get back to the plants, im just hoping now that the light green bottom fan leaves are not because these things have been munching on my roots, i hope someone can advise me on this news paper idea, its all nearly done, im going to run with it for now unless im told its a bad idea, i gota try something,

i need some of the earth stuff, ill check around tomorrow and see if my mom can pick me some up while she out shopping, ill send her a txt and ask her, not sure what else to try, im not seeing any on the leaves just in the compost and flying around, i just hope i havnt lost all the hard work i put in, id be gutted if it all went pair shape now, but i gota have these problems sometime and get them sorted its the only way im going to learn, but could of happened sooner before they was in flower, not now their well into flower,

ill get some sticky fly traps as well and stick some of them all round the grow and around my flat

your babies are in flowering I wouldnt spray them for anything....i know SNS has a all natural Fungus Gnat Drench. I have no personal experience with it but the spider mite spray is awesome, so if thats avail that will be the BEST drench option....and no sand!! I know people say it, but when i tried it for Fungus Gnats it just hurt my plants.

I am super serious Mosquito Dunks, they look like grey little dougnuts, plop them in a few cups around the plants with a no pest strip, and they will go away. the 2 together should run under 20 bucks at a home depot or your equivalent. I was reading that some eggs wont hatch until 30 days later sometime. And remember if you cover the top, they will just crawl out the drainage holes.

Im not sure on your methods but I do know that SNS has a GREAT soil drench that I have. Also you can get DE (Diatomaceous Earth)for them little buggers. just know the DE is useless when wet. After watering sprinkle some on the surface of the pot. also on top of that you can try to find some type of a root drench for bugs. doesn't have to be SNS organics the best way to go of course. try small doses at first, to study the effects(if any)

thanks deege, if i had know earlier i could of took a tub and got some lady bugs but its dark now and got no chance of finding any, but that is my plant tomorrow to find a shed load of lady bugs and give them to my plants and let them have a feast, i just hope they help the problem, but im tying newspaper for now as i wont be back till late tomorrow, so surely the newspaper will stop more getting in the compost, im going to cover the pots and turn the fans on full to make any hiding in the plants fly off then i should be able to do a bit of damage control as they wont be able to get to the compost, i sifted through the top layer and squashed what i could see, just got my big plant pots to do.

i did my guerilla grow earlier got 2 ak47 cross uk cherry cheese growing outdoors, only babies at the moment, took me ages to find the right spot, the ground was bone dry but i managed to find a nice patch well out the way where the ground was slightly moist and looked like normal compost and not normal soil, so planted their and used wire mesh to put a frame around each plant to stop anything eating them this young, im sure knowone will find them unless they end up 8 ft tall, but ill be checking every few days and feeding some water and nutes if its really dry, plus topping and lst if needed to keep them below say 5 ft, it was hard work getting to the right place so i really dont think anyone has been their ever as it was well over grown and i struggled to find a way, but i made several turns and detours along the way to stop people following flattened grass and stuff like that, plus i had my dog with me so looked like i was out walking the dog, everything was hidden in the back pack, but its in the ground now, i did take some pictures, theirs loads of grass growing around the spot and some of it was about a foot tall so i cleared a space all around the plants and it should give them the chance to grow as normal, but if i lose them i wont be to fussed, i needed to get rid of the plants i was getting to many so its good their gone, if they live and turn out female even better, but no bigggy if they dont survive

thanks for the info, do the lavae go that deep and come out the bottom, but at least if they come out they wont get back in and lay eggs in the top of the pot, im just using the newspaper to stop more getting in and any getting out, they only seemed to be in the top inch of loose compost, below that the roots was rock solid and it was very hard to dig into and i didnt find anything below an inch and it was only in the loose stuff on top that i sifted out, i know the larvae can dig down and probably will but i think they will come to the surface instead of digging down and try and fly away, well thats what im hoping, ill see what i can get tomorrow, and ill ask my mom while she is out as well cuz she got loads of diy shops over her side so ill see what she can get, ill get some sticky fly traps to hang around the plants to catch the flying ones, i wont spray anything on the plants i know some people do but id rather not take the risk with mould as the temp is high so would thrive i think if it took hold, i just want to limit the damage for now till i can control it,

will covering the pots with news paper damage the plants in anyway, i know plastic bin bags would make it sweat and could cause rotting but im thinking the news paper will be breathable and should not cause any harm, well i got 2 big pots left to do, be back in a minute

sticky fly traps are great, yea do that. and try to get your mother to get the DE. Doing the newspaper for now won't be terrible. just for the next 20 hours. If they are stressed when you get home. No big deal. They will be happier than ever when they don't have those Nasty GNATS!. Don't freak too much man. You'll be alright, it happens to a lot of people. Its the people that don't do anything for weeks when they see the symptoms that get the serious problems. then theres nothing you can do, but your taking action so you'll be alright brotha. don't stress :Namaste:

Yea the gnats will figure it out and start heading towards the bottom holes and use that as a In and out. The paper will def help control the issue. and it breathes at least. But i will still stand by my(yea i know i sounds like a mad man) Mosquito Dunk in a cup of water/sugar/Apple Cider Vinegar(noticed it was the best for me) You will see tons of dead ones in the cup, and the ones that survive will go sterile and cant breed. That is what got rid of the problem for me. I didnt use the DE because its a pain since its useless when wet. but I know it does work. And if you cant get lady bugs it will def help. They kill spider mites too :D My first grow fungus gants were ALL Over it was terrible.
