First CFL Grow Using 30 Watt CFLs

I always keep them cheap stick paper traps hanging in one corner, them fungus gnat are a PITA, they love hydroponics so watch your roots in your aero garden.

I just use the traps and never use sprays, Also if they start breeding really bad I use GNAT OFF

The thing is they don't do anything to your buds, they eat your roots then they rot. So late flower i just leave them to it because they don't damage it too much. Your too early in flower and should give all your plants a hit of Gnat off maybe even some hydrozym

it seems these bugs are very fussy, the top loose soil in special kush had a few that i killed before covering with paper, what i did was get all the loose soil into a pile and got a ball of it in my hand and gave it a good hard squeeze i kept doing this for a while before i covered it with paper, all gaps seals so hoping that buys me some time,

but the nl x bb, had none, i sifted through all the loose stuff and didnt even find one of them, so far they was in the special kush and 2ltr hempie, the auto's had none and nl x bb had none, so all been well ive caught it early, im hoping the news paper buys me some time, their wasnt loads by any means, but i say 4 or 5 in the special kush and 1 flew out the 2ltr hempie, so chances are they laid eggs, so i gave all the loose soil a good squeeze, anything below the loose soil was rock hard and i would need some trowel or something to loosen it up cuz its like concrete in their now, i got the nl x bb fem to cover and then im done, 1 hour 45 min left to go and im running out of tape

@ deege, i think i got it early enough, my mom goes shopping in morning so ill send her a text and get her to pick up some fly trap sticky paper and like bigpappa send some mosquito dunks, but when bigpappa said about apply juice it bought back memories of my nan, she used to get some orange juice and put it in a tub then leave it somewhere in her kitchen or she would use some undiluted squash and put it in tub and this caught a hole load of flies, she got infested as the next door neighbours son hung himself in the garage at the back of my late nans garden so she had thousands, the poor bloke was their for a couple of weeks before his mom went to see if his car was their so she could try and find him and she found him hanging,

so i know fruit juices worked for my nan when she had loads in her house, they used to get in and drown and couldnt get out if they got wet, ill give it a try, ill see what type of mosquito dunk i can get, not sure what they do over here as its not a huge problem with mosquito as we dont usually have the weather, but its been wet for weeks and now its hot and very humid so ideal for these little critters, im going to fill some glasses with pop and leave them around my flat, if i empty them daily it should not atract anymore, thanks for reminding me of my nans fly catching methods, thats going back a few years as well.

@bigpappa, so is this dunk some kind of block that you add to the liquid i have only ever seen the spray mosquito stuff, repelants and killing sprays, even if the spray says its safe i dont want to get any liquid on my plants so i need to find another way, im texting my mom now and ask what she can get when she is out tomorrow, then i can ride my bike over to hers and pick it up while im out then when i get back i can put the items to good use.

@deege bigpappa and jimm, thanks for all the advice, i was pretty worried but since looking in the soil of the other pots i think i have caught it early, so ill see what my mom can get me tomorrow and ill start using it as soon as i get back, thanks everyone, got one plant left to cover,

my pots sit on a towel so i think the holes should be pretty covered, i put it back on the towel after i have let the soil soak up the water when i feed it, so im thinking the towel will block most of them, but the pots feel heavy so at least i wont need to water for a couple of days which will help.

my plants look like xmas presents wrapped up, well the pots are well wrapped just got a big plant sticking out the middle,

the Mosquito Dunks(exact name of the brand) come in a back of 16 i think? They look like grey little doughnuts. I break them in half and put them in cups of water mixed with sugar and apple cider vinegar. Then just set the cups in your garden next to your plants. and I would put a cup by any sources of water near the grow(ie sink because the will go in your sink and bathtub) then the gnats will be attracted to the sugar/vinegar mix and want to feed on it. A lot will get stuck and forget how to fly then die in there, the rest who get away will be steral :D the stuff never touches your plants. Keep them in there for the next 30 days, maybe changing them once a week or 2. and they will eliminate them due to not being able to breed :D

When your mom goes if there is a home depot i know they have them, but any everyday garden store, or hardware store that has general bug pesticides should carry them just ask for "Mosquito Dunks"

It's not the flies you need to worry about, you can see 5-10 flys then 3 weeks later you have 1000's and no roots left. The larvae is what causes damage by eating the roots, root hairs and stems. The symptoms of an infestation can be stunted plant growth, wilting, yellowing leaves and rotting roots.

They are a real pest and I doubt your paper will stop them laying eggs, once they lay the babies stay in your roots longer then they live as flies. anyone who's had these things and not treated them will know they become a constant companion in your grow area and a big cause of root rot.

Gnat off - organic and safe - I recommend as it can be watered to any medium and will stop further breeding, use with sand/sticky pads for 100% pest removal and prevention.

sand - organic and safe but doesn't always stop the problem.

tobacco - It works wonders for ALL pests but clearly contains nicotine/other baddies and will contaminant your plant. throw on soil neat or mix in water and spray.

alcohol - Works well but I would test a patch on a plant a day before you try your mix to make sure it's not too strong. about 1 cup

vodka with 2 cups water.

soap - Being in the same part of the world as you I have no idea what soap people mean since powder soap hasn't been popular since the 60s around here and I doubt good old fairy is good for plants/you as it's very sticky and hard to just wash away. can't help with that one.

I like to K.I.S.S with the gnat off and sticky pads, grabs flies and stops breeding job done.

good luck

im in different country mate, thats my problem you use brands that i juts cant get so i need to find something that does the same job, just uploading some pics of my 2 outdoor plants and my diy gnat emergency procedure defence control

@Jimm so i can get this gnat off, is it a spray that i use, would i need garden center or could i pick some up at say wallmart as i think walmart is what the big out of town shop is called, its called something else here but im sure its the same brand shop as wallmart, begins with a and 4 letters long ends in a, one of the top super markets where we are, would they sell it

thanks for all the advice and help, im hoping i got it early, i spotted a few yesterday but thought nothing of it and didnt worry but today i looked at the plants and saw flys in the soil so now im worried im going to lose the whole crop, i hope not, be pissed off if i did, but i gota go through these tests to get perfection, its the best way to learn as ill know what to do next time, all the pots are covered and nothing can get in or out, i killed all the ones i seen in the kush soil and ive seen none flying around since, their was none in the nl x bb so im hoping i caught site of them early enough,

anyways here is a few pics, the outdoor grow just as i planted them before i done any weeding, and then the paper defence system in place

can you even see the plants in the picture below, i buried the plants slightly below ground level so they got plenty to drink when it gets hotter as its getting hotter each day and who knows when it will rain next so hoping they be ok without much care, this picture was taken before i cleared some space around them, but i didnt want to make them stand out so ill keep pulling back anything that is competing for light, but they will get most of their light after dinner and right the way up till the end of the day as im told and read this is the best sun to get.

below is the special kush, take a look at the leaves and tell me if this is normal due to them being in flower, the leaves where the buds are are a nice dark green colour and looks totally healthy but these leaves are lower down the plant and are the first fan leaves that grew a long time ago, so do i have a problem or is this how it should be, the northern light cross big bud has not got leaves like this, a few died as they was inside the plant and not getting any light so thats ok but all the others are ok

midlands mate thats where i am, ill have a look online see where my nearest hydro shop is, i know their is one not to far away, but by my moms she has got a big warehouse hydro shop that i found that might be cheaper as it sells to the trade and public and is huge so ill check them out as well, i gota get something done, i text my mom to look out for stuff while she is out shopping, ive covered the pots and had the fan on high and not seen anything come off the plants, before they was flying around when i moved the plant, so hoping their trapped inside, i need to get some venting going so i dont need to have the grow room door open in the day time, i think thats why they found the plants, easy access, if the door is shut its light tight so wouldnt get in, but if its shut the plants will fry in a few hours so i need it open unless i can get some venting going on in their

just checked and shook the plants and not even 1 little beasty flying around, it says they are in larvae stage for about 10days, but im thinking if i keep the paper on and get one stuff i can to kill them i should be ok, im hoping i got it early enough, fingers crossed alls well, but i recon i got some bad news coming about the colour of them leaves on the kush, to me they look like the plants i have seen in the dvds i downloaded when the fan leaves die off in flower but the bud leaves and fan leaves near the buds look as healthy as they always have

im in different country mate, thats my problem you use brands that i juts cant get so i need to find something that does the same job, just uploading some pics of my 2 outdoor plants and my diy gnat emergency procedure defence control

Ahh well then here is a photo of what I am talking about, maybe this will help. I would be surprised if there wasn't a similar version available under a different name. Again this is avail. at just about every garden center or pest store around in the US so I would assume there would be a fairly easy to obtain version elsewhere. I could be very wrong though :D

And yes it is the larva that will hurt you most, but this stops the adults from being able to breed, so after the larva hatch this will stop those adults from breeding and once its through the full cycle they will be eliminated because nothing can breed!

i think i have seen something like that in B&Q its like a big warehouse type diy shop that sells everything you need to do with building homes and gardens, its where i got my rooting gel from and stuff like that so ill try and get their tomorrow, the doughnut things look familar so i think i have seen them before, unless im just hungry and my stomach is telling me it wants some, lol

thanks for the pic, ill have a good look around tomorrow

Wow nats..to put a stop to the lavae...surround your plants with perlite;;;also sit your pot in a dish of perlite so the drain holes are covered...lavae can't crawl through perlite...keep your fans on high..nat can't land...dammm i hate nats almost as much as mites...if your saw some in your soil...do the dip as soon as you can..:goodluck:

thanks for the ingo everyone, i managed to get some stuff an could only get fly papers, so im at my moms and i remembered the kids had few bags of childrens play sand, so could i used this and put say in inch in top of each pot, would this help till i can get to a hy the hop, plus i have limited funds, the fly papers i got for 99p from the 99p shop, get 3 packs, 5 in each pack, as they was cheap i can have them everywhere, in the grow room i can put a few and the rest outside the grow and near places they could fly past.

hping to get some earth stuff that shreds them, but not got any where i went, but not far from mine is athe store that sells plants and only deal with plants and associated stuff, its where i got my nutes from the first time so im sure they had loads of stuff like that for use round rosies if i remember right,

but ill need to go and have a look tomorrow or monday,

this morning i didnt go out so early and managed to stay in till the lights came on, so it gave me the chance to check for signs of flies, so i checked and didnt even see 1 this time flying around, i usually see a couple fly up as i opened the door, but their was no signs of life in cupboard and the sweet drink i left in their was fly free.

so im hoping their are no more flies but i know they will have laid eggs so i got to sort that out, but fly paper will stop any fliers escaping and laying eggs, all been well i caught it in time

ok, scrap the sand idea, thanks for telling me its no good, ok, so all i have got is the pots covered in newspaper so it can still breath, but i wrapped it up and taped up any holes etc and left knowhere for them to get in or out so i done that and i also got a load of fly catchers to hang up, i bought 3 packs of 5, they look pretty long as well, i opened the one up and it is super stripy, as soon as you get your skin neat it it sticks, so been the clever person i am i decided to try and hold it with the other hand so i could pull this one free and im sure you can see the problem, both hands stuck to it, i was on my own, i couldnt do anthing, took me ages, when i did get free from the killer fly paper i spent the next 2 hours trying to get the stuff of my hands and clothes, it would stick a human to it so an army of flies av got no chance, so i confirm its very good indeed, so if any flies that are human size they will get stuck and i can drag them off my property and off my plants..
so thats my fly plan at the moment, at 12:00 i opend the door when the lights came on and i didnt even see even 1 flying around, the day before 2 or 3 flew off the plants with the draft from the door, so i think i got it sort of under control, as long as i can stop the flies laying eggs then they should die off witing 2 weeks, all been well all should be gone by then,

i just got to make sure that i turn the lights on when i go the loo else im either going to be sleeping hanging from the ceiling, or ill end up draging the fly papers back to the bed or sofa in the lounge and end up glued to that, so no more going to the toilet in the dark, like been a kid all over again

geez boss hope you dont think that I was trying to steer you wrong, never had this problem but was just passin on some info that I read here. at the time no one said anything so just was throwing some options out there . anyway I hope you get this fixed and I have my fingers crossed:circle-of-love:
