First CFL Grow Using 30 Watt CFLs

Looks great donpaul! :) I wouldn't cut anything on that 2L you got going, how far into flower is it? The buds should be able to fill out form top to bottom on that, good job. The larger plants are looking really good I'm glad your going to have some bud to smoke soon! How far into flower are they? That little runt plant you have really took off after the LST, that's awesome. Kind of funny how that works.

Not sure if Medicinal Organics ship outside of the U.S. but if they do, I would go for their strain of BC. The stuff has some serious trich action when in flower, and the smell of the flowers is really nice and pleasant. When ever I open a jar of BC bud to show someone, they always say "WOW!" when that sweat unique fragrance comes wafting out of the jar! ;) It really does smell like Blueberries and and a light soft cheese mixed together. Hard to describe it exactly. You just have to smell it and then you will never forget it.
 
thanks for all the kind words, i wont touch the hempie then mate, it does have bud forming at the very top and the buds are growing further down but not as much as the 1 at the top so i think its doing ok, as for when it went into flower id have to check back in my journal and the same for the big plants, but i still got a long way to go yet before i get rewarded.

i was shocked about the g13 auto as well, it was growing so slow and the node growth at the stem was just not growing and the branches where tiny, so i went against all i read and decided to lst, in my head i told myself that if i bring the top of the plant down lower than the node growth then this should force the plant to grow the nodes as the main branch, within 24 hours i noticed a huge difference, after 48 hours i un did the lst as i was very pleased with the results, so if i have an auto that grows slow then ill know to lst it just to get it growing, now it has more branches that are level with the top of the plant it seems its all growing well and at the same pace, as for pot size its only in 1gallon pot, i never put it into a bigger pot due to its slow growth so im hoping it will be ok in the 1gallon square pot,

ill check up on the dates i flipped the lights and give a quick update and the ages of plants and how long they have been in flower.#

i am really amazed myself how far my plants have become, and its only down to all the help and advice that i have got where i am now, if i get enough smoke to last me a few days then ill be happy, im sure i can grow more next time knowing what i know now, id like to veg a slightly bigger plant but the cfls dont penetrate far so couldnt get big plants using them, but now im using the dual spectrum hps i should be able to grow some bigger plants and get a decent yield, but i dont think i have done to bad this first time round,

@gg7, ill have a look about that bc strain, but im not sure if i could get it where i am, i cant buy clone so it would have to be seeds, so unless i could find a seed bank that stocks it or if the place you says sells seeds then i think im pretty much out of look with that mate, but their are loads of strains out their to try, most i have never heard of, ive got plenty of seeds of different strains so i dont need to buy anymore just yet, and ive not tried any of the strains i have got in seed, i have had big bud before and northern lights, so it will be interesting to see how home grown compares to the comercial stuff i usually buy
 
Special Kush is looking awesome! I'm interested in the BB x NL as I've got the two parents going on my end.

For the air pump noise, if you can, use a bungee cord to hang it from something. That dampens the vibration... or If you can't someone mentioned using a mouse pad. remember to keep the pump higher than the water level so that if the power goes out the water doesn't drain into the air pump and mess it up.

hey man, havnt been around much lately. really loving how everything is coming out here. I was reading on that male hermit stuff. its very interesting. we oughta try and get a "breeder"/"experimenter" on here to figure that one out! Im very curious now! purpleeees nugs(one of my autos) are getting scrumptious :)

thanks all, ill try the bungy with the pump, its just so the neighbours dont think im using a dildo or something like that 24 hours a day, but i got tropical fish and the pumps are all in the bottom and dont make much noise, but having the pump outside the cupboard for my plants and resting on anything gives off loads of noise, at the minute its on cardboard and its made it make less noise, ill dig some bunjy cords out and get it hanging, sounds like a good idea to me.

@surf buddy, it says the nl x bb is an indica strain, but mine looks like sativa, my special kush is 100% indica by the looks of it, but the nl x bb seems to have a lot thinner and longer leaves more like a sativa strain, the buds on the special kush are short and fat and the buds on the nl x bb are long and thin so really looks sativa to me, so its either leaning towards sativa or herbies got the seeds mixed up and sent me something else, who knows, but either way both plants look stunning.

it sure is some interesting stuff about the male hermie, it seems it makes some kind of super male what ever that is, suppose to be good for breeding super strains, not sure how it works, way to advanced for me, but i got a hermie to get pollen from, im thinking its a female hermie, but how would you really know what it is, how would you tell if its a male hermie or female hermie, if it grew both parts at the same time then their is no way of knowing till you start crossing the pollen with something else, and what would a super male even be good for, does it mean bigger plants, stronger strain, im having a slow read through the info, their have been a few studies on it but its way to technical for me, it needs someone who has some white coat experience to under stand what the hell their talking about, their is a chemical you can use to turn a male plant into a hermie, ill try and find the link again and post what it was, the study was done in the UK believe it or not, not sure why they would do a study like that, wonder if it was medical research or just some stone head trying to grow some good bud while at college,

HEY THERE DON, AS FAR AS NOISE GET A PIECE OF RUBBER FLOOR MAT OR WELCOME MAT REST YOUR PUMP ON THAT AND THE VIBRATION WILL GO AWAY. I TOO KEEP AQUARIUMS AND HAVE A EXTERNAL WATER PUMP FOR ONE OF MY FILTERS, USED TO DRIVE ME NUTTS THEN i TOOK A PIECE OF RUBBER MAT PUT IT UNDER IT AND NOW I DONT EVEN KNOW ITS THERE AND IT WONT WALK AROUND EITHER just my 2 cents:peace:
 
thanks, i was getting problems with it bouncing off the cardboard i had it resting on, so ill use an old rubber door mat i got and cut some off and put it on that, as im not sure i got anywhere to hang it that wont get in the way, the pumps in my tank have got like 4 rubber feet and make very little noise, but this pump is an old one i had not used and it sort of has hard rubber running all the way around the base, and as soon as i plug it in it starts dancing down hill and off what ever i got it resting on, so ill give it a try, thanks mate
 
thats what i was always told that males show sex first, but this time round with my ak47 cross i found the females showed a good week or 2 before the males, i know what im looking for now so can spot male pretty early, so i kept checking then when one of the plants under 12-12 from seed showed me it was female i thought the rest must be as well, i had 3 plants all under 12-12 from seed, anyway the one which is now the 2ltr hempie showed it was female first and by the time the others showed they was male the female was showing white hairs all over the place, so im not sure why it didnt work with this strain, but it really did show females way before the males, i kept checking every day and when i spotted that both plants where male i was shocked and removed them, then the next day i checked the males again that was now sitting on a window sill and i doubted my decision, the 1 was 100% male, but i looked closer at the other and i couldnt see any male parts and i asked myself why i took it out the grow, i was going to put it back in but by the next day i could tell it was male. so they got binned, i got 1 hermie growing for pollen and thats it for my breeding program now,

i was going to try and hermie a male to get a super male but i think its to advanced for me to be thinking of yet, plus it keeps my plant numbers higher and its not worth taking the risk and having more plants if their male, so i binned them, i got the hermie growing at another address so i wont contiminate my plants in flower.

i was reading another growers journal and he is waiting for his plants to show sex before changing the pots, the pots they are in will be getting root bound if they keep growing in their more than a couple of weeks, he is waiting for them to show sex and then he will repot the fems and kill the males, he asked how long till they show sex and asked about the 4 week window, so i thought id ask everyone here what they thought so i could pass the info on,

this is what have read myself
1 under 18-6 plants will show sex around 4 weeks or 4 nodes high
2 under 20-4 plants will take longer to show sex
3 under glr plants will usually show sex a lot sooner
now thats what i have read, but my plants in flower now made it 7 weeks without showing sex then when i flipped to 12-12 it took another 2 weeks before i could sex them, i was growing under 20-4 for most of the grow, started on 24-0 and even tried glr for a while but for most of it i was 20-4 and they never showed sex and was still vegging at 7 weeks so i flipped the lights and it took another 2 weeks before it showed sex.

the grower may read this journal but if not i can pass the advice onto him, the plants need bigger pots but he wants them sexing first so wondered what your views where on this and how long on average you have noticed the sex of the plants
 
i just checked my plants before the lights went out, and im amazed at the differrence from yesterday, the buds are getting fatter now, on both plants, im just checking the dates of my plants so ill post them in next post
 
a quick reminder of when some of the plants started out
5th march, special kush goes into pot and is under cfls in veg
9th of march. northern lights cross big bud femenised goes into put under cfls in veg
21st april, special kush and nl x bb fem goes into 12-12
25th april, all the ak47 plants i got growing go into pots from seed, so the ak47 2ltr dwc hempie went 12-12 from this day, also my 12-12 from seed that turned out male, so was replaced with a ak47 cross plant of the same age but it had been under veg from day 1 so had roughly 2 weeks of growth under veg before switched to 12-12 as i wanted to see what i would get going 12-12 from seed,

so thats the dates,
now the special kush and nl x bb fem are well in flower and each time i check the grow i have a smile on my face, im so chuffed at how far the plants have come, so thanks for all the help with this grow,

so in flower i have got the following
1 x special kush female,
1x northern lights cross big bud femenised, female
1 x ak47 cross uk cherry cheese 2ltr dwc hempie, female and in flower
1 x ak47 cross uk cherry cheese 12-12 from seed in normal pot, sex unknown
1 x g13 poisen dwarf auto, female and in flower but under 20-4 lights with 12 hours of this under hps
1 x greenhouse seeds auto bomb femenised, under 20-4 but is now outside as i am not in summer where i am so its on my balcony till it gets big enough to be noticed then it will be back inside unless i can build something to stop people noticing it, possibly a big box would solve my problem, i want to see how much growth i get using the sun, can supliment with hps or cfls if the weather is crappy or gets cold.

in flower in another address
1 x hermie big bud#2, collecting pollen as and when it gives me some, not sure how to store it, have been reading it can be frozen but surely freezing it would make it go wet when it thaws out, would it still be viable if left in a pot with no light getting in at room temp or would i be better trying to use it as soon as i could, like with the next lot of plants to go into flower.

now for what i got in veg
2 x ak47 cross clones taken from the 2ltr hempie in flower so these are female clones
2 x ak47 cross from seed under 20-4 these will be for my guerila outdoor grow when i get chance to take them for planting, sex unknown

1 x ak47 cross in aerogarden under 20-4, not sure what im even doing with this one as the light in the hood is not the right light for flowering, but it is a grow light so might be dual spec, but it is designed to grow strawberrys n tomato so should be ok, the lights are set on their own timer that cant be adjusted as far as i tell so i will be adding my own timer and putting my own plug on the light in the hood so i can flip it to 12-12. i think ill be doing this soon so it dont outgrow the aerogarden, i tried something different with this, i was thinking about how the fim gives 4 or more tops and why topping only usually gives 2, well i thought about it and decided to top, but as well as topping i took of the 2 big fan leaves, at the highest part of the plant, this slowed down growth enough to get the results i wanted, so it slowed the growth at the top and increased growth at the node below, so the 2 branches at the node below have now caught up with the part i topped and it has now given me the 4 tops i was trying to get with the fim that i messed up,

so im not sure if anyone else has tried this but all i did was top it and remove the 2 fan leaves at the top of the plant, the top of the plant then slowed down and the branches at the nodes below grew and caught up with the bit i topped, when all 4 growth tips where at the same level they all seemed to grow at the same rate, so i have now got 4 tops, wondered if anyone else had tried this, it didnt slow growth down as much as fim did, id say it was just the same as topping it but instead of giving me just 2 tops i have now got 4,

1 x special kush fem clone, these where never meant to be clones and where just bits the broke off or was cut off when i topped,
2x nl x bb fem, these where the same as above, im hoping for a super cropping from 1 or 2 of them due to the time in flower when they was taken

ill try and get the dates for the autos but it means looking through pages of my journal, but ill have a look when i got few minutes to check,

from now on ill keep a written diary in paper of days seeds planted and when went into veg and when into flower, so that way i can update you all and give you the exact number of days for age.

when i touched one of the buds on the nl x bb fem, which is the first time i touched one as they was to small before and would just squash, so i had a gentle touch and a gentle squeeze and it felt solid, the bud change since yesterday is amazing, it changed pretty much over night, but the weather here is hot now so chances are i may get bug problems, im getting loads of small flies in my flat and the last time i saw these they started eating my cactus so im hoping they prefer cactus, im getting some fly catchers just in case, but in the flower room their are no signs of flies, they seem like little small fruit flies, but its that time of year when they come so it was expected, i just hope i dont have a problem with them now im this far into flower,

is it worth covering my pots so the soil is covered with no where for them to get in, would that be a preventative measure, i dont think ill have a problem but i want to try and limit the risk before it does happen,

If your worried about fruit flies just keep you medium really dry, they thrive on wet soil! Or if you dont want them getting to the soil and roots you can always put a small layer of sand on top of your soil. Stops them getting in and laying eggs and kills the ones in there.

plus instead of sending me 2x big bud#2 which i have got a few of, herbie has sent me another femenised seed, not sure what it is till it comes, so im getting a good collection of seeds now, so ive got more than enough strains to try now and when i find one i really like then ill keep a long term mother or keep taking cuttings from the cuttings as they get big enough.

does anyone know if i grew a clone and took a cutting from it then kept repeating this, would this mean the strain stays the same, or do i need to mother a plant instead, im really hoping this cotton candy has strong purple colour when its finished so i will be growing that when it comes ready for round 2 of flowering, it sounds like it has a good level of thc as well which ive been told is unusual for purple strains,
