DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

Yes those readings seem to be right in the zones you're looking for. No need for tape as I'm sure light goes out when u close the door
Ok was jus wondering since its my normal fridge every1 goes into all the time so i was worried bout it keep coming on but yea guys im really excited to try this out so wud i then jar them up at the same time like i normally would if the little branches snap wen i bend em and the bigger buds are slightly crispy on the outside but not fully dried out then i jar em shud i stick with that for this method as well??

I recommend cutting buds from the stems. I dried cut buds and colas in fridge and found that the buds on stems pulled moisture from stems and dried much slower. That isn't necessarily a bad thing but cutting the buds from the stems allows for more surface area of buds to be exposed for more even drying and less chance of mold or rot.

I doubt a little occasional light from the fridge bulb will degrade THC to any significant degree. As long as you're running those temps and rh, you'll be fine.

I also tried jars and brown bags. Brown bags I think is the ticket. More air can get around the buds and the paper does absorb moisture. I used the small brown lunch bags. Lots of them. I only put as many buds in them that allows to lay bag down and spread buds out on bottom. Mine were ready for jars in a little over two weeks. I noticed that the terpenes were always in the upswing... never notice any loss of aroma except for when several times I pulled bags with larger buds that remained moist on their surface for a number of days in a row and spread them in screens to air dry for a few hours. But with a few days the awesome aroma returned.

I'm with Randy, cut the buds from the branches, and make them small buds at that.

I harvested a hempy Carnival today.

The plan was to dry this entire plant hanging to get some quick produce on hand to keep the BIL out of what I'm working through the cure.

I can't pass up the opportunity to do a direct comparison. I'll set aside some of what I line dry and contrast the taste, aroma and effect with this branch I trimmed down for a low and slo dry.

Smaller buds dry faster. I'm in no rush with this, so I'll let it go the whole time in the jar.

Looks lonely in there. :laughtwo:

Wats up y'all so I checked RH after about 8 hours in jars and it was about 55. I'm guessing g thwy are ready to be cured I have my boveda 62 coming todat...buds are still a little dry leave them how they are or try to add some moisture. Burped them this morning and wen I put back in jars it came to around 62 so after a hour I'll see how they read

Hello all. I've just entered the low & slow club. Just chopped my first plant and bagged 80g wet and 27g trim. I'll be chopping a second tonight.

Quick question for you guys related to humidity. What are some additional ways to deal with it, beyond putting a bowl of rice int he fridge? My temperature is spot on, but my humidity is high.

In this tread I've read, rice and paper bags or newspapers, but changed our every couple day and if it's a little fridge make sure there are others things like bottles and stuff helps maintain or lower from what I've read

Is the fridge basically empty???

If so ad some volume to it, pop, beer, full Tupperware. The fridge works based on volume, if it empty it doesn't work very hard and RH stays high

Sup y'all jist a quick question since I had so much trouble keeping the RH at 40 anything. I got my 62 boveda packs for curing and looked at the back and they had humidity packs in the 40s aswell could I use then in each bag or jar inside the fridge to help regulate that

Thanks guys for your suggestions. I ended up putting everything into paper bags just like Randoobula suggested. I put a rice bowl and the rest of my stack of paper bags in. I already had it filled with cans and bottles - had to take some out to make room. So the temperature and RH both seem to be fairly stable. RH was around 75% when I first put everything in and hit 55% after 10 or so hours and has stayed there since. Temperature is 35. I might turn up the temperature slightly to get closer to the sweet spot described by DrZiggy.

I doubt a Boveda pack would have any effect on the RH in something with the volume of a fridge. They're designed for sealed quart jars. Also, they don't reduce the RH much at all. They're designed to raise and maintain humidity.

Is your humidity running high or low?

My apartment has been a tad more humid than I'd like lately, with summer thunderstorms in abundance. After a week I haven't been able to get the buds lower than the mid 60s. I've decided to let them ride like that and continue the cure. In time the humidity levels will stabilize. The jar has a Boveda in it, so I know it won't get too dry.

The trick is in not letting these buds get smoked up, and that's what this is for.

Now when the BIL asks for a refill it can be the buds dried on the line. You gotta be creative. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Seems to have worked ya I tried some I was already off some really fire Kosher Kush so I didn't feel a change but it was VERY SMOOTH. Still no taste but the grass smell I slowly fading away. My dad tried some he said it's not all the way ripe so I'm guessing after cure she should smoke better....I WANT SMELL AND TASTE haha

Smell and taste return quickly once they start curing outside the fridge. It all tastes a little grassy at first, but that's because we insist on not waiting. Lol! I'll admit, I'm one of the worst at this. Patience is NOT my middle name. :battingeyelashes:

Impatience is the probably the worst thing to have when growing or consuming Cannabis :)

..its kinda oxymoronish (it could be a word..:lot-o-toke: to have it as a middle name for me )

DrPatientZiggy...

After a few grows and cures I think we all learn the benefits of patience. After all, what's the point of going thru a 3-4 month grow cycle only to mess it up by not waiting those extra couple of weeks (at least!) for a proper cure? I do have to say that the low n slow drying does make a tremendous difference to the smell and taste...
