DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest

I've got a Registered Mail package to pick up today at USPS from across the pond with some Auto beans I'm going to give a run for the first time. I've got a plethora of strains to try but just gonna run 2 plants (different strains). I've got Diesel, Tangie-matic, Blackberry, Pineapple Express, Green Crack, Gorilla Glue, Critical, and a couple more I forgot. All autos. Suggestions???

My choices from that list would be Pineapple Express and Gorilla Glue, but then you'll also need something strong in CBD, at least a balanced ratio, but preferably with a 2:1 CBD dominance.

Plant them directly in the finish pot and keep them under 20/4 lighting, start to finish, and make that as much light as you can gather. Don't hesitate to top at 4-5 nodes and train them. arteekay and Jay pulled an average of 4-6 ounces off each of their autos before they stopped growing because they had too much inventory.

So my nugs have been in fridge since the 8th been trying to keep humidity up but always drops to high teen low 20s even with a bowl of water...stem bends but nugs are crispy....thinkibg of just going ahead and jaring them for cure or is the crispy part supposed to happen

Thanks Sue for the input! And light won't be a problem. Just going to pop 2 or 3 and they'll be under 500W of actual LEDs between the COB and the XML 150s so I won't be able to blame the lights! Forgot I've got Sugar Mama auto too which is a hybrid of J Herer & W Widow so I'd be a crime not to run it!!

And Knotty, I'm sure Sue or someone more knowledgeable may reply, but I'd suggest setting them out in the paper sacks (even put them in new room temperature ones) for 30 minutes or so and let them get to room temps, then jar a sample half full in jar with lid on an hygrometer inside. Let it sit for awhile until RH is settled, and if under 70%, they're ready for sealed jars/burping

They'll get crispy on the outside and still have 80% humidity inside the buds. Do as David suggested but lay them out for an hour, instead of a half hour. Then jar some up with a hygrometer and let it sit sealed for another hour. If the buds are at 68%-70% jar them up. Otherwise, back in the fridge.

Hey sweet sue. Just finishing up the first week of harvesting and paper bagging my buds. How long should they be in the paper bags before jarring the buds? Or is more on feel?

It's more personal preference and the internal humidity of the buds. You can keep them in bags all through the refrigerator dry, and it'll probably take two weeks with average-sized buds, at least from the information coming in. Or you can start them in bags for a week and move to jars and take a little longer to get them dry.

They don't get jarred up for the cure until the internal humidity hits in the neighborhood of 68% RH. Then you continue burping and screen drying daily until you're down to 62% RH.

Thanks for the reminder. It's time to do my buds. :battingeyelashes:

Hi SweetSue, this one's for you:

Forgive the Off topic post but I am on my holidays in The Netherlands and I keep seeing these beautifully trained Hortensias here that remind me of a gorgeous sativa trained properly with its beautiful Colas everywhere. This is how we should be training our outside plants :)

Hey ziggy I was just wondering what was the point in putting the in the tent during mid to late bloom is it to help increase smell or change flavor just wondering since I'm close to harvesting another purple kush so just wondering what that does?? Thanx brotha for the info I'm excited to try this slow dry with my next harvest since its coming up pretty soon about another 10 to 14 days or so but yea thanx again 4 the info man

Allow me Ziggy..... The bananas give off ethylene gas as they ripen - all ripening fruit will do this, but I like bananas, so bananas were what I chose for my tents. That gas encourages ripening of the cannabis. I see a noticable difference Jones, enough that I'll be continuing this tasty practice in my finish tent.

It's recommended for mid to late bloom. I have two tents for bloom, one for the first month and one for the finish run. The bananas are in that finish tent.

Makes a great nutritious snack when you're gardening too. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Smaller buds are at 68% humidity. I didn't get to them yesterday, so they had a day where they didn't set out.

Jarred and beginning the cure.

Larger buds are still too moist.

Back into the fridge.

I love questions. I encourage them everywhere I post. :cheesygrinsmiley:

When they're in the bags it's without the jars. That way the paper can absorb some of the moisture.

When they're in the jars and in the fridge they either have a piece of silk or some type of open-weave netting to allow the moisture to escape easily.

When they're jarred up for the cure they have lids on the jars, and until they stabilize at around 62% you air them out in a darkened room for an hour a day. Then they're closed up (I use a Boveda pack at this point) and worked through the rest of the cure.

At all times you want to protect the buds from light and heat. Always store in a cool, dark space, tightly sealed.

Update on my dry: I was away for weekend took the 2 jars of smaller buds with me to burp throughout weekend, and left 3 paper sacks with the big buds in fridge. Last night when I took them out to air out in my truck for an hour (I know it sounds crazy but have a diesel so it doesn't hurt it to run and I can get it 63 degrees in there in about 2 minutes so that's where I've been airing them outta the fridge), they looked ready for jars so sealed them up and RH settled at 67%. Still burping all jars daily but RH never getting above 68 in any jar and settling at 63-4 on the smaller buds so they're officially curing 3.5 weeks from harvest. Maybe this info will help others hesitant or impatient to stay prudent. And dankness/colors are returning to what I remember from wash.....

Ok well I had my hydrometer in my bottom drawer of my fridge for about a half hour n didn't open the door till I checkd it n it said the rh% is 37% and the temp is 41°f so did that be ok to use the bottom drawer I cud even tape up or color it black to block out the light do u think that would be efficient enuf to work??
