Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey High Brix crew!

So Im on Day 3 of flower on my first HB grow and after seeing some things on here regarding defoliation or pruning before flower.

I guess my question is how much to take off before flip. With my girls I stripped and flipped like I normally do but I think I might of seen a few things on here saying not to take off as much?

These are my girls right now, they are looking good but maybe not taking off as much before flower could they have been better?

Those look really good! On the pre flower pruning......I like to just leave the top 4-5 nodes of each "top" and take everything below that.

My marionberry kush is looking very depressed after it's transplant into it's final container 5 days ago. This is the first time I've had a plant look sad for that long, sprayed it with destress yesterday hoping that will make it perk up again. This plant had also started throwing pistils in veg really early so I'm wondering if I just got some bunk genetics.

theBoogyman, can you post some pics? :thanks:

Thanks! I went up to like the second node, so I did a pretty hard prune right before they got flipped. Might leave an extra node or two next time to see the difference.

Morning "kid', ya that's a bit too much with the pre bloom prune OK. Try and leave on more next time and maybe grow them a lil bigger too....:tokin: They look nice and healthy with a very good color to them , so don't fret OK...all is good but next time leave them be, a bit more. Cheers and good work so far ! :)

Sweet, I appreciate the advice! I think my biggest problem was I start with too small of clones so my plants aren't growing as big as if they started bigger, but my Skywalker from seed is pretty big. She's the exception though because she wasn't a clone. Anyways My clones I took from these girls are a lot better! Eh this is all part of the growing learning curve lol. I will also definitely leave more on the plant before bloom next time. I bet the girls will like it a lot better

My camera didn't really capture the actual colors of the plant/stem. Leaves are very dark green, no defeciencies or anything going on. The plant looked super healthy the whole time in veg, it just started throwing pistils early and some of the branches are only growing 3 bladed leaves currently. Other branches are growing 5-7 bladed leaves. No light leaks, so not sure. The stem is dark purple for the most part, but this is supposed to be a very purple plant from my understanding. It looks more sad in person, at least to me. I'm sure it will pick up within the next few days, though.

temperatures good? -can they be too close to the walls/floor, that they act as a heat sink? :Namaste:

If you've never grown the strain before, leave the top 4 or 5 nodes intact on each branch. Leave all fan leaves on those nodes.

My temps are 75-80 during the day and drop as low as 63 at night, not too much I can do about it. They're off the floor 5 inches and separated from the walls with some insulation stuff. I've stuck my finger in the dirt to feel if it's too cold and it feels fine.

Purple stems....usually low temps, especially at night.
3 bladed leaves: usually because you topped at the wrong time, in the wrong place and didn't leave 5 to 7's at the apex of all branches. Could also be photoperiod stress, IE lights in bloom room do not start at the same time as lights in veg room.

Try a warm water drench next time......about 80 degrees. Rescue Drench.

Boogs...you just described my enviro ! 75-85 day / 60-65 night! Not perfect but still very good OK! Cheers bud ...no worries !

I only low stress trained this plant, never topped it. It's had purple stems since veg but it grew vigorously. Night time temps in veg were 68-70. Also my bloom room lights turn on at the same time as the veg light room. Water was warm for sure when I transplanted too, because I'm paranoid about watering with too cold of water :p

LST causes hormone changes....most plants can handle it just fine, every now and then one can have trouble. I think you'll bounce right back. Carry on!

Interesting... I usually top my plants 1-3 times, this time I figured I'd try LST and I'm not too impressed. Topping seems to work better, at least for me.

Wanna know what i do.....to get my 'bushes'.....top once, at 4/5th node,....wait, wait, Train 'leaders', Supercrop 'runnaways', encourages secondary branches to multiply...vioalla!!....DONE!....oh ya , forgot,...use lots , and lots of soil...:tokin:.....

Sent from my DeLorean...in the future!

Got it! I did also leave a few fan leaves on the girls where I snipped the node off.

It's just so hard not to always be messing with these girls. And when I first started growing I thought more pruning was better until now I see how much more growth these girls get when you leave everything on them!
