Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Good morning!!

Last night modified the room. Installed 6.7mil mylar to help with getting light to lower canopy, and made room for another row on next grow. The girls seem happy with all that DBHBB soil. Brixxed'em last night as well.

I'm growing these ones out without topping to get an idea of what these strains natural tendencies are. Should I be thinking of thinning the lowers more than I have when I took cuttings?

DL, nice looking set up bud , but there is ONE thing that bothers me...always does, and i can't help my self...Whatever sized pots they are ....take about two full gal's. OFF that number cuz THEY AINT FILLED!!!! Fill your pots people....Come on !
Double_Berry_s_bloom_start_004.jpg
Big pots ..FILLED UP!!:slide::blunt: 26 gal. pots....26 gal's. of soil in em...:tokin:
That being said DL, nice set up:)

You will definitely need cooling if you add those Nextlights, I have 2 of them and they throw some heat. The 525 watts is true wattage not inflated LED wattage. I really like the Nextlights though, they have really boosted resin production over the blurple LED.

Yes the spectrum and intensity is equivalent to a 1000hps, but they fill in and smoth out all the gaps in the hps spectrum.

HA Duggan, I was wondering who would call me out on that... I'm sorry...I ran out of DBHBB soil and had to ration. Don't fret, I have another cooking and 4 more ready to be mixed. Heck with pots, I'm gonna just fill the room with soil!!

Don't mean to seem too intense DL , but , but ...but..! I am tired of growers sayin how big their pots are , then they only fill them 3/4 full!!....doesn't make sense to me ...you? I have said this many times...our soil is the best , and the more we use of it for our grows , the more fun we will all have. Doc said in the beginning (five yrs. ago) 5 gal pots are minimum and he recommends going bigger,..to 7's. If you ask him today , he would say start with 7's. and go to 10's. if you can. Growing in containers is a challenge to keep our soil 'in the groove', that is a reason i use such big pots...i don't want any issues deep into bloom with soil running out of 'gas' . Simple remedy...more soil...works EVERY time!:thumb: Cheers DL and Gang!

If I were you I would lift those lights up a bit, probably a foot at least? You'll get some better coverage and the plants won't be as hot.

Thanks for the input Boogy, I appreciate your concern

When I have the lights all the way up, about 18" higher, the lux meter showed the intensity was 5k-9k lux in the canopy. Outside on a bright day it can be anywhere between 32k-130k depending on where you are along the longitudinal axis. From my research, and please correct me if I am misinformed, the minimum lux in the canopy during flowering is 30k lux. Right now I am 18" over the tops, and the hoods are cool. The incoming air that is cooling them is approx 65*F. There doesn't seem to be any heat issues showing on the plants.

Am I on track with my understanding? Please chime in:thumb:

I do fear with this setup and not a uniform canopy that as I need to raise the hoods as the plants stretch, that the lower growth will be deprived of the light needed. At least this time I can study this ratio and decide what will be more productive next run...

Thanks Bud! Good advice...next time I'm gonna fill those suckers to the brim! They are 15 gallons each!

You are correct with your light's placement; with your style of ducting the lights should be able to touch your plants, given that you said you feed the lights 65 degrees on their air intake/pass-through; by my experience that should be murdering the heat problem, so you are good to go. The more light the better, if your hand is comfortable underneath the light the plant will be, too. I keep my ducted HPS 15"-20" with zero lightburn at 400W output, but if it wasn't ducted that sucker would not be that close (which is why you/myself/most of us probably went with a ducted lamp). I have had the light at this distance since January for an extended clone vegetative state, and it is March with zero light or nutrient burn on my now flowering plants; many of my petioles are green already =].

Thanks Miasma! Yeah I can hold my hand on the glass of the light indefinitely no problem.

sorry, just seemed like HPS bulbs could burn but I didn't realize you had air cooling on the lights, my bad. I wish I could have my HPS that close :p

No apologies needed, my friend! I really appreciate all this discussion with every one of you! Such a great learning platform.

Oh and cool Avatar Boogy! I like creepy horror stuff!

It's just an avatar from league of legends, a game I play. :)

My son plays that game a lot. On his fancy 'gaming PC'. I never had nothin fancy...we usedta clip some cards on to our bike forks so would make a cool sound ...stuff like that...playin outside...steppin on bees nests,..climbing trees,....road hockey....bein a kid.:) Now they talk about computer graphics and tech stuff. OK, off topic....:tokin::rofl::rofl:

Sent from my DeLorean...in the future!
