Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Can anyone give me an idea how much perlite I'll need for the ProMix BX??

It isn't critical. About 1 cubic ft. should get you in the zone.

So what if I can only get the 2.8 size, can I add three or 4 gallons of perlite to that to 2.8 of BX to get the 3.8 I need?

That should be fine. The ratio isn't that critical. :thumb:

[Edit] Oops, I checked. The 2.8 is loose, not packed, so it's less than half of the 3.8 packed bale. It's "25-35lbs., while the 3.8 compact cu. ft. bag is 60-75lbs."

I was gonna say, the 3.8' = 6.2 cu-ft when uncompressed according to the Promix people. Like Gray, I go by weight since the stuff can be loose or partially packed. The 2.8' loose is just slightly less than half of the 3.8' compressed. Also BX has a fair amount of perlite in it already = 12%. Promix HP = 30% perlite. The big difference is, BX has 5% vermiculite for water holding.

If you take the difference in perlite between the two versions (30% - 12% = 18%). 6.2 cu-ft. x 18% = 1.1 cu-ft. That's how I came up with 1 cu-ft. YMMV :cheesygrinsmiley:

So how about 2 bags of 2.8 and 6 gal or perlite. I feel like that will work but I need some semi confirmation from you all. Thanks so much by the way to all who have posted a reply.

And the 2.8 would need about half of that 1.1 cuft, so that'd be in the 3-4 gallon range. :slide:

Bingo. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

So I picked up the 2 bags @2.8 cuft of the Promix BX. I'll pick up 6 gal of perlite soon. Placed my order with Doc and I can see everything coming together slowly but surely.

Thanks to everyone that helped my figure out what I needed.

Where did you source your Promix?

Where did you source your Promix?

I found it at a semi local nursery about 1.5 hours from me. I was in the area and started calling all the garden centers lol. Only had it, saved me money on shipping lol

Alright gang, I have a mystery. My Carnival, at day 89, nine days into her flip. A while ago she started expressing this curve to her leaves.

By all other accounts this is a happy plant growing in good soil. All her drenches have been on schedule, and she's received regular Brix foliars and DeStress when it was called for. Any thoughts on what I'm dealing with or suggestions on what to do to help her get through whatever she's caught in?

Here's and overhead shot to give you a sense of her scope. She's filling a 2x2 tent.

She's not over-watered is she?
Is it possible to get a look at the roots?

Looking at the roots would be problematic. I have the pot filled to the max. I'm fairly certain I've let her dry completely between waterings up to this point. You guys trained me pretty well to let them begin to droop, and the weight of the pot at drench suggests I was waiting long enough once she got flipped.

Incidentally, she's 91 days now.

Sue, she's in 100% Doc's HB soil? :)

I'm very inexperienced, and I openly admit I have priorities that preclude me burying myself in the science. I'm a quick study, but otherwise occupied. This doesn't diminish my desire to do this right and grow the best plants I can. So, with complete humility, I ask what does this look like? I'm lost.

High Sue,
I remember when my pineapple fields showed curled down leaf formation.
Doc said...she looks like if you hit her with a super drench she would love it.
Now... Sue you know I'm a newb to the kit.
And Im not saying thats what YOU should do.
But...im just sayin. ;)
Maybe Duggan or Doc can put experienced eyes on this.

Ok, I can see similarities there. Let's let the big guns take a look. You guys will have to walk me through the super drench. In return I'll document it very thoroughly.

Thank you Stage. Brought tears to my eyes. I love this plant. How crazy that we can get so attached to plant.
