Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

They will probably follow the Kits instructions better and get incredible results if they don't have access to more ingredients when beginning with a kit. :)

Perhaps. I'm pretty happy with the feedback I get. It's about 100-1 favorable and those that do have problems can find solutions pretty easily.

There's not much to be done for someone who decides to both spray and drench with every product. IE, foliar GE and drench GE on the same day, Foliar Brix and drenched brix on same day, etc.

Seriously

Yo guys, my statement "Do you guys even realize what Doc is teaching you right now?" was for the new guys out there lurking, or brand new to the site. Guess I should have articulated that differently...But I was knee deep in fresh Skunk Berry from last week's harvest. Didn't mean to offend you seasoned growers.:Namaste:

Aaron, I certainly wasn't offended..I thought it very funny :)

no worries..:circle-of-love:

A few screwed up by not cooking soil right----outside in cold weather, concrete slab, etc.

But I'd say most of the folks who didn't continue were growing specifically for yield and opted for hydro and/or coco and salt nutes, mostly hydro.

One operation in particular had a horrible mite infestation. They ran two cycles with High Brix and had no real problem with the mites....but yield was down from the rockwool block hydro set up, so after two runs they went back to hydro and miticides.

We're talking buds laced with several miticides that should not be used on food crops, let alone "medical" crops. They would wear tyvek suits and spray weekly. It was very sad. They admitted that the "soil buds" were pretty good, but a no-go due to the yield, which was down about 20% from previous.

I calculated that they probably spent more money on nutes and miticides which ate in to their profit.....but they didn't keep detailed books or anything....they just liked the idea of a really high yield.

Now, that operation makes wax mostly and the crap they grow all gets processed into concentrates, pesticides and all.

But for the most part, people who try the kit and actually read the directions and follow them, as opposed to "incorporating" every rumor or opinion that they come across.....growers like this never go back.

There will always be a place for the best quality, no matter how the market changes.

You are so eloquent, Doc....around these parts most people grow just like that: hydro for more yield, synthetic nutes, and mite infested full of pesticides....it gets to be a vicious circle.....one particular grower comes to me to get his own stash, which tells me something....I am told his buds are so harsh one wife won't even indulge in any....last time I saw this grower he told me "your buds look like a lot of love went into that bag" and his fiancé said, "your smoke is so clean tasting."

I about fell out of my chair....I'm so used to following high brix journals, looking at all of your pictures, and my own grow, that I am oblivious as to how the rest of the world operates....this grower pulled out a big bag from yet another grower....his buds looked nothing like mine.

Just started my 3rd year of growing and it's been high brix since day 1. I'll never go any other way and I'm so grateful I found you early on, Doc! :thanks:

I grow high brix with a lil help. My hypoaspis mites are in every pot. They are my ongoing IPM. I have blue and yellow sticky cards up around the grow. The only thing on them is fungus gnats. I could Bt them with a skeeter dunk but then what would my hypoaspis mites eat? I really only ever see one or two gnats flying around. Last soil cook I got a minor thrip appearance but I used spinosad to knock them into last decade. I was careful to only spray the plants and not the soil. Spinosad has been shown in studies to affect predator mite populations when used as a soil dunk. So my mites ate any larval stages in the soil and the Spinosad killed the adults. If you buy spinosad try the capt deadbug concentrate, then you can dilute it to whatever strength you desire. Spinosad will remain residual on the plant for up to a week. When sprayed on a plant a minor amount can go systemic for about 2 weeks so keep it veg only!

I am recently entering a mentorship with a grower who took one taste of my buds and decided to toss everything he had away and start kit growing. He is going to do 10 kits worth of soil each cycle. He's scared of the Internet so I will have to guide him through. But he listens to everything I say without question and writes everything down. Then after a day or two he comes back with questions. Gonna cook the 10 batches this week. I need a cement mixer so bad!!! But it's saying something about Doc's method that this guy just switched over no questions asked. We will do a strict kit run by the book and then see what needs to be adjusted for his strains. Can't go fancy until you see how they like the basic method

Whoa! 10 kits? I can only imagine. But to think about the low cost and how much produce that makes, it's honestly a drop in the bucket. I know he is going to be cruising along under your wing Shig.

The proof is in the pudding. After growing hydro a couple of years, simply because it is how I was taught. I discovered clackamas coot and all his wisdom which dragged me into this world of soil building. The same day that I ran across Doc and his methods, I had to register and get a kit for myself. It truly is an entirely different way interacting with our medicine. Hope everyone is having a great day!

My state has opened up medical MJ with legal licenses to grow. The largest license is for 1500 plants. What the fuck are these large operations going to do when they get infestations (which will happen)? What will they use to combat these problems fast? No thx, I will not partake in that commercial weed, mines better.

Doc, when soil is sitting on concrete what is the main negative reaction? I thought given time it will still cook, it just takes longer. My soil has been sitting since Feb. It's in my basement on concrete, but I have it sitting in-between my furnace and water heater. I am going to build a new shelving unit soon so my soil will be off of the ground, but it will be near a concrete wall.

And finally, I don't have a RO unit hooked up (yet), in the mean time can, or does, anyone use a simple water pitcher filter specifically to get rid of chloramine?

the pitcher filters, (activated carbon filters) do work to filter out most of the chlorine and chloramine.
the problem with the cement is its a huge heat sink. heat gets pulled from the container..
same as with camping..sleeping on the ground without an insulator from the heat sink Earth will not be comfortable. :)
elevate it on milk crates, etc. :thumb:

Grab a used pallet from someplace. Even a couple of inches of air will make a huge difference.

Here's what's about to be harvested:

Skywalker OG. I'm really happy with this run! These nugs have a superb aroma, are dense as can be from top to bottom and should be a breeze to trim.

Finally, a mystery strain that looks to yield about 6 oz. If it's as good as I think it is, I'm gonna grow a lot of it. Insane yield. As long as the quality is on point it's a winner.

Ooh la la Doc! I just love to see the pics from your garden. They make me feel happy inside. Truly connoisseur. You set the standard sir.

Thanks bro! I feel exactly the same way when I look at yours. Mine is actually in pretty bad shape right now....all the bloodmeal has led to lots of mites....I hate 'em.

But I'll still harvest clean, healthy cannabis without a trace of pesticides and triple washed for taste and health.

Mites from the bloodmeal?! I did well without it all these years, I think ill do without...dang!!!

I have a question regarding pots, I was thinking of using smart pots. However the local shop has the Gro Pro version, and I have heard brands of fabric pots other than smart pots are inferior for various reasons.

Whats the general opinion on this? I don't mind using square plastic pots, but thought air pruning may be more beneficial.

No mites in the blood meal. The mites were from cannabis cup clones.

The bloodmeal dumbs down the soil enough to allow the bastards a bit more of a foothold. It's happened to me a few times before. I might to go all first run soil to put these mites down.

Normally, I just leave them alone. I'll see a small web on a lower fan leaf or a few spots here or there, but no real damage to anything. They go untreated when the garden is totally dialed in.

But these bloodmeal runs have pumped new life into them. It happens.

I use hard plastic pots. Round in bloom, square or round in veg.

I don't use fabric pots. Others do, and some of them have tremendous success.

they are definitely prime examples of what we all strive to grow :)

Ya, but the fooker keeps raising the bar on us, too. One day, I may manage to grow a plant equal to his standard from a couple years ago! Bah.
