Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Last time through I went 1 to 10. I gave them two weeks in the 10 though.
This time I added an intermediary 3 gallon. They have been in the 10s one week when I put them into flower last night.

I prefer to flip as soon as I transplant into 10s. I figure that after the light is changed, they still have that week, week and a half that they're still vegging during which time they dig in and get happy. I suppose several methods will work and might change the plant a bit over the extra week or 2 :)

What you are saying makes total sense, I was worried this one about getting my twister plants roots large enough (she's a slow but sure type of rooter). I upcanned the pineapple fields also as I wanted them to get established. (They are going in a bit early). I know we are supposed to be able to go directly from 1 to 10 and flower, I just haven't been able to let that old habit go...yet.

I like to give 'em about two weeks in their final home before flipping. It lets them hook up with the soil so they are fully ready to do their ultimate job.

I just like giving the flowering plants' roots more room to stretch out as "flowering" plants, not "vegging" plants. But, whatever makes you happy is really what matters I reckon

Absolutely true - whatever floats your boat. :thumb:
My thinking is, you are asking the plant to build new roots while it is also growing flowers at the same time. I want all the energy available from an existing root structure so that energy goes into the part we care about, as much as possible.

But they keep vegging for a week or two! We all know that as fact...or I might just be silly lol

Exactly. And that is what I want. Let them veg for those two weeks. Flip. Veg > Bloom over the next two weeks with the roots well established at that point. My grows have been mediocre in my estimation so I'm not trying to convince anyone I've got it figured out. I'm just putting out there what I do, and why.

I have always gone from the veg pot into the flowering pot and flipped the switch the same day. This has worked well and not so well. For the plants that have a nice growth burst after flipping do real well and yield quite nicely, the ones that don't do shit really but start flowering seem to not yield real well. If you know your strains I think vegging them until you are happy with the size then transplant and flip and you will have green leaves all the way through for the most part...but then again I grow a lot of long flowerers' and they like that extra soil.

Doc/anyone, how should I go about growing some heirloom tomatoes? Gonna do some in a 7 gal pot outside. When should I foliar? How much should I feed you think?

I'm actually doing an experiment with two holy grail kush plants related to this discussion right now. Two weeks ago, when i got home from vacation i harvested one plant, and i like to put another in bloom the same time. But, both my holy grail kush plants were in 3gs, and they were ready to bloom. I went back and forth, but decided to up can both plants to 7gs, and put one in bloom (one that i felt had better root development btw) and leave the other in veg for a week.

I've since flipped the other, last week when i chopped my thc pro.

I'll let you know. I've always wondered (but typically i like to upcan a week minimum before flip) and thought about asking here. But, if you know me, you know i just say f it and do it.

Peace my friends :Namaste:

I was going to ask the same question(s). And the following...

Can I buy a small tomato plant from a garden center and transplant into kit soil without ruining the soil? I'm talking a very small plant like 4-6" tall.

I grew the heirloom tomatoes in 10 and 15 gallon pots..outside

yes..they will be fine. :)

Question for Doc and all. I put this bean in the ground 3 weeks today and i've been growing her 11/13 since then. She grew in a 1 gallon for most of her life, transplanted her a few days ago into the 7 gal and into High Brix soil. Pictures don't do it just, but the waxy green color is starting to show itself on the bottom suckers and the new growth at the top. It's really cool. She started showing pistols 2 days ago and a bunch more today..all of the suckers are showing hairs also.

Question is about de-foliating. Should I bother? How much should I trim? This is my first grow so I really have no clue what i'm doing :) I would like to get the best and most possible.

Thanks!!!

Looks young/small for defol'.
As long as most of the plant is getting light, I don't see the advantage at this point.
With the entire grow under 11/13, I bet it starts to stretch, opening up the nodes so the leaves get more space and light.
