Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

i have only 12 plants in bloom, max. i understand, the hydro, which i never have done, gives more fruit. but, bland fruit. soil/soiless is best. thats all i have ever done. the problem with "commercial size" organics, for vegs, is the cost. if we are all demanding organic, we will be met with three times the cost. lots of people, will go hungry. but, on a home sized garden, we can do well. im trying to find out, what tea that is, that docbud was refering to. id like to check it out. thanks for the heads up! i see the last med disp closed in my neighborhood. the state is forcing them out, so it can have all profits to itself. this is why, i let my card lapse. as of july 1, anyone with "active cards" will have their info, shared with city, county, state, etc. not my idea of a good time. so. neener neener. lol.

If you're not legally growing I can't help you bro. I'm very sorry.

you need to keep to the basics, till you get some grows under your belt. keep to the basics, for now. how to water. feed. when? i nearly made the same mistake, of trying to run, before i could walk. luckily, i had some one stress this to me. keep it simple. read on the simple things. get a good grow book, for beginners! read it! jorge cervantes has several. start with the BEGINNERS. people, like you and me, and most of us, do not "need" to involve ourselves too much with all the "extra crap", when we have not yet mastered (and good luck on that, lol), the basics. so. use only half the nutes the package calls for. use the nutes, only every third watering. when you water, do it thourghly, till you get drips out bottom. then, add nothing, till nearly all has been used up. get a moisture meter. cheap. like 7. its just a probe, you can get at any nursery. i still use them! although many people, in time, can tell, by the weight, of the pot. between gro, and bloom, flush the plants. i use a large plastic tub, from walmart, with a pair of 2 x3s across it, to sit the pots on. the tub catches the runoff. i use my ppm meter, to see how the runnoff looks, as far as old ferts left. if you are using, say, 4 gallons, like me, i will run four gallons of water thru them. let em drian, and, into bloom. this removes old salt buildup. and, they love it. over ferting, seems to be what many newbies cant seem to avoid. lol. burn em down! lol. also. your bloom area, should not have any light leaks. none. go inside, close the door, and turn off the lights. any light comming in, needs to be kept out. 12 hours of TOTAL darkness. if the floor is cold, set them on something. i use sytrofoam panels. very cheap.

11 days old. The kit is doing fine for me. Now foilar sprays occure when the true leaves form?

I run perpetually. Usually, not always, but usually I replace a harvested plant with a vegged plant at time of harvest. A true perpetual. No down time in the bloom room at all.

You'll need 3x more soil than plants. Twice as many clones as needed and about 30% more vegged plants than needed. You'll be culling clones and vegged plants all the time this way....but you'll always have soil and plants ready to go.

Thanks, Doc! So just to make sure, are my assumptions about gallons per bale of Pro-mix about right? 49 or so gallons per bale?

Promix claims to be 3.8 cu-ft. = 28.5 gallons. EWC adds another 7-8 gallons for a total of about 36 gallons. I've confirmed this is close to what you end up with. BUT...

Promix and other products are measured using "real" gallons (US or Imperial). Pots, on the other hand, are all over the place and often are measured in "trade gallons". There is no set standard, but from what I can tell, they are about 80% of an actual gallon. So, 36 real gallons = about 45 trade gallons. That's why it works well with 6x7 gal pots.

I don't have a detailed photo as of yet, could potentially have some tomorrow, but should I be concerned about serated tips doing some slight curling? No taco leaves, just some lifting of the serrations.

maybe, sometimes can mean start of Mg deficiency, heat..
What is some of the grows' information?
Is it High Brix? size of pots?
Strain?
Age?
lights?
etc

:)

I have to have a small heater in the room, small fan type so blowing hot air. I have the heater essentially bouncing off of the wall so it is not blowing directly on plants. There is a fan in the back of room blowing across the plants as well. My acu-rite was sitting in pot next to plant. Temps are as photo shows. The 84F is at the hottest, I do not know he actual duration of hot air blowing on plants, few minutes at most. I need to pull another piece of foam to go under plants for extra insulation. Plants look real healthy except for that slight curling.

Your environment is a little unstable, given what you're saying. I'm concerned about that much light and only a 73 degree temp as seen in the pic. Also, rH at that temp should be 45 to 50. Your plants aren't digging those temps, or the 84 high, or hot air blowing on them.

Stress. Use the DeStress spray weekly, unless you can get that rH down and the daytime temp about 78. If you can get your temps and humidity right, those issues will probably go away.

A good environment is the most important factor of a quality grow. Nothing is more important.

Yup, me too. With my first kit I almost filled 2 30 gallon rubbermaid garbage bins

Not me, but measuring potting soil is a bit like aiming at a moving target. I think Promix will fluff up to 6-7 cu-ft. when still dry, but as soon as you add water, it packs down a little. After I add Amendment, EWC, and water, I can fit a bale into two 27 gal totes with room to spare. After the cook, I fill six 7 gal pots = 42 gallons.

-EDIT-
Today is the final day to vote in the :420: contests.
We have two great members tied for MotM this month. One grows DWC the other HB. Cast your votes!
Sorry Doc. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming...

So I have another noob question for the DBHB group. Being that this is all new to me, and from what I have read so far in the status quo of lighting methods, I have just set my light for a 18/6 schedule. I did not have a timer when I first got my room running so for the past 12 days I have been going 24/0. My timer is now set and running today at 18/6. I don't know how general the belief is on lighting being that I have read several people using all different schedules. I am looking for some insight. I know Zigs was running 11/13 from start to finish. Any advice would be super cool. Time to do a little ;) while I wait for some expert analysis.
