Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I completely forgot what a hassle fabric pots will be in veg. I will stick to the plastic pots, but may look at a different sizes between 1 gallon and 7 gallon so I can save room in the veg tent by upcanning one more time.

Any suggestions? 5-1/2 weeks into flower:

Yes.....clean the bong and get some cones......:high-five:

Edit: maybe some Epsom next watering......wait for the experts.....

It's gonna be good herb for sure!

It looks like salts got a little high perhaps? I'd flush it with a 1oz per gallon Transplant 10mil Tea solution. Saturate, then soak it heavy from the top, pouring very slowly. Run several gallons through it. Epsoms might be nice on the tail end of that flush.
I think you'll have something special there regardless, but that's what I do when one of my strains gets that look....which is a good look, just one that says "Transplant" to me.

I like the idea of fabric pots to bloom in, but I do not understand why people use them in veg. Roots pop right out of plastic pots. I use 1 gallon plastic pots in veg....I suppose I could do better but things turn out OK.

In the vegetative phase, the fabric pots prevent the roots from circling and promote the development of additional secondary and capillary roots. Root ball are fairly easy to pop out also. The fabric pot I use is specifically designed to make transplanting easier.

If you are willing to try different lighting arrays, try fabric pots. You will find some have sturdy handles with the larger sizes.

GoldenEagle I love the 1gal fabrics for veg also. It isn't as easy as a plastic pot to transplant but I still haven't found it too difficult. If a plant is ready and the soil fairly dry I just push them out from the bottom. This go around I am trying a middle size pot (3gal) before moving to final (10gal). Those 3gal I may just transplant pot and all into the 10 gallon pots.

The HB plants in flower right now I transplanted the 1 gallon pots into the 10s. Roots had no issue going through the bag within days of transplant (I checked carefully).

Hey guys, isnt my plants looking little bit too small for 25-30 days old plant ?

She looks fine to me. A month in you want more going on down below, the roots -- they grow them great fruits! How long did you cook the soil?

In fabric pots you, also, need to let the grow medium dry out. When dry enough all you need to do is grab the plant's main stem and gently push, from the bottom, and or pull it upward from the top.. The one gallon pot I am using is the smart pot "Transplanter." When I last transplanted into the final container, I waited until the plant was beginning to show signs of needing water.

I do that in plastic pots, too. Once the soil is on the dry side, it shrinks around its circumference. Sometimes the plant, soil and root ball will fall out with a gentle knock.

Doc, what can I say? Thank you thank you! These huckleberry Kush plants are at 37 days post flip. 23 days to go! No OG drench this time, just 1/8 cup blood meal at flip. And Brix +wa10x before and after cat drench. Will repeat that today.

shigs, grand slam!!! great job! :)

Looks good man. :thumb:

Thanks guys! That's high praise from the likes of you! It has convinced me and all my new clones that just got roots are going into DBHBB soil. I will flower out the Chem plants I have waiting in veg but by midsummer I should be 100% high Brix. This growing system Doc invented is so easy, has plenty of wiggle room, and also room for individual input. I was worried that I wouldn't get as many trichomes and they are more important to me than yield! But Doc's kit is out sugaring the Chem plants by a slight margin so it can only get better as I learn the kit more.

Whoa! Those look freakin' awesome!

:bravo:

Thanks so much Doc!!!! :yahoo:

Tavoso grew these Huck Kush plants and I wanted to do him justice, afterall it was his thread that brought me to Doc's HB growing! Well actually he grew the V2 and this is the 3rd version of Huckleberry Kush from Dynasty. Once again I am going to thank my silent benefactor because with their help I now have TWO just finished batches of DBHBB soil. Enough to fully switch over to High Brix growing. But...if I switch to High Brix exclusively, what will I do with all my free time? Trim High Brix nuggs I guess! :slide:

Super cool bro. RE: your benefactor...is it not the coolest thing ever to realize there are people like that alive and well and hanging out here on 420mag? It certainly helps me deal the frustrations of life knowing there are still good, kind and generous AND HUMBLE people out there!

Just curious, what type of growing are you doing besides High Brix? What comparisons can you make at this point?

My hunger games grow is the same strains as the high brix. Currently the nutrient regime is

Mbferts vitamin booster 1ml/gal until 4th week post flip
agsil 16H silica, 0.5gm/gal until 4th week post flip
Holland secret nutrients: 2/3 strength of what they list for each week.
Ton of bud PK booster 2nd and 3rd weeks flower
The heavies PK booster last several weeks flower.
Demeter's destiny chelated calcium, magnesium, amino acid supplement (no nitrogen)

Typically the highest ppm I run is around 900ppm during the height of flower.
a small amount of PH down to get to 5.8 (I will have to hide the pH meters when I go all High Brix so I can avoid the rake handle)

My observations so far are:
1. I had a much more controlled stretch in High Brix. So the HB plants ended up shorter by a few inches for each strain (I love that).

2. Before Cat drench I was worried that the HB plants were going to yield less. Then Cat drench happened. Now I see that though the HB plants are shorter across the board, they will yield the same as the taller chem plants. They also have a higher trichome count and the colas are thicker than the chem plants.

3. It takes me 10 minutes to weigh out powdered silica, pk booster, add the 3 nutrients in varying amounts (grow, micro, bloom), then pH with pH down...Sometimes I really dread the chem nute protocol. With DBHBB I just plop a 1.5oz drench and then measure 2.5ml tea with my micropipettor and I am good to go. It is so much easier and faster I can't believe it. Even on those weird days when I had to water both veg and flower and spray a foliar, it still comes out to less time and effort than making the chem nutes.

4. It really all comes down to the trichomes and terpenes period. I like to consider myself a trichome and terpene farmer first, and a bud farmer second. When you are adding all the different chems that you have researched as being good, and combine them into a coctail you really think you are doing something special, and I do feel that I was. But then you do the high brix growing and you realize that you have millions of little minions to do your bidding. They are boosting the plant, adjusting the pH, and giving the chelated elements to the plant. Now I can concentrate on other things, I have more time to chill with the plants, train, gawk, adjust. I am trying my best to follow strict instructions for the kit and I am finding it doesn't exactly work that way. There is a silent communication where my plants are not only telling the microbes what thy want. They are telling me also. Go a day early on the foliar this week, give a little more GE, I still follow the instructions but I lean a bit this way or that. I am thankful that the high brix system allows that to take place.

I look at all the DBHBB grows and I can see the individual personalities of each grower. That's important. I didn't want to adopt a cookie cutter method of growing. And the Kit is not cookie cutter at all. I am actually surprised at how similar my chem and High Brix plants are (though the HB plants are noticeably better). But I think that means my personality and growing style is expressing itself in both chem and HB regimes. Its just that the High Brix method is letting me express myself a little bit more. It feels more like an intuitive extension of myself. I feel more connected to my High Brix plants.

Just wait for the Twister Doc, a 60% sativa that I have kept with a buddy for the last two decades clone only. It is one of the magical Skunk#1 X NL X Haze crosses that were prevalent in the late 80s-90s. Great internode length and very controlled stretch. Super soapy to the touch with ridiculous trichomes. Smells of Citrus, Cat piss, and skunk hash. Super motivating buzz that can keep you on the couch not from couchlock, but from trippiness and sparkly visuals. She also noticeably tightens your cheeks into a smile, like sunshine on your face. You can't get it anymore they stopped offering it 18 years ago or so. My buddy visited and he gave me 3 clones to restock. I gave hime some Huck Kush for his troubles. Twister is the best plant I ever grew and I have all three clones in high brix soil just waiting to go into flower next round. She didnt like the transfer from chem to high brix so I had to give her a rescue drench but you can see from these pictures that she has now adapted to DBHBB soil. Some of the lower leaves have yellow but the new ones are green and lush!
