Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I wanted to bounce some thoughts off those who follow this thread, because I know there is a ton of excellent growers here, and DBHB is how I do it.

I have Cookies Kush. Barneys says this is a 100% Indica strain, but this bean is twice as tall as the short fat girls and is just growing like a Sativa. I expect this pace to keep up in flower so I have been thinking about snipping it a few nodes down. Wanted to see what everyone else thought of this idea and any pro and cons you guys may have experienced. Appreciate the help in advance.

I'll chime in here

I grew Barneys Vanilla Kush (Indica) twice and the brix grow was way different than the soil grow.

Taller, thinner, about the same high though.

Smoke report of my last brix grow;

all 3 strains are A+, long lasting even high from start to 2-3 hour finish.
first hit of the day, one bowl is sufficient, 2 hits I watch Encore Westerns for hours.:tokin:

A friend gave me a bud of so called California Medical and said it was the best he ever smoked.
I took two hits and wasn't impressed.

Did an OG drench to five of my remaining plants on Doc's kit yesterday. No problem. Added my 400hps to the room.

The CBD OG is coming down first, month end. I switched to 11/13 couple days back.

The Holy Grail Kush... Shit, awesome strain. Have one on Doc's, one on house,, can't push them enough....

Have a sativa on Doc's, and the same strain on house,, the rest hard OGs. Gonna be an awesome harvest. The THC Bomb on Doc's is incredible. Baseball size nugs. I'll test that at the lab, washed and unwashed.

Just amazing, can't wait to taste....

Thank you, Doc!!:Namaste:

Look what happened when I grew a Skunk, and then its clone. This is Orange Hill Special just before flip.

And this is the clone from it.

And this is what the clone looked like at flip.

It's the same plant - one from a seed, one from its cutting - both in Doc's soil. :hmmmm:

Example of mid-bloom prune. Notice that you can see dirt looking straight down after the pruning. It's more dramatic when the lights are on. When you prune like this, the plants will orient the branches so that everyone gets light. Before to after order.

I haven't mentioned the awesome phototropism we get with high brix plants in a while, but it's kinda fun to do this trimming with the lights on. You can literally watch the plants move and adjust. I should do a time lapsed thing on that sometime.

Anyways, resin production is down for some reason.

Also, I found this!

It's a male flower (no pollen....but I was worried). I've never had this strain toss a nanner, let alone a male flower. It is my opinion that the stress of the blue veg light did this, as I had all kinds of trouble getting normal leaves and structure.

Looking Awesome Doc! I have never run my LED's with just the blue veg spectrum, it just doesn't make sense to me. I'm no expert but full spectrum light just feels right, more natural for the plant. I could be way off but I haven't had anything like that happen to me and all I use are LED's in veg.

I have also successfully vegged with LED. But I'm demo'ing lights, and they have an all blue veg lite.....so I gave it a try!

I need some guidance, I have a White Widow which has some yellowish orange feathering along the leaf edge, although not on all the nodes, just maybe 40% of them. Had noticed this in veg a little bit, went away and now is evident again. Stretch is over and flowers are filling out and other than that everything seems great. I have added some Calmag to water thinking that might be the issue. Hibrix 7 gallon smarties under LEDs about 16 days into flower.

And now, for something different: Four weeks into flower, 2 Blue Kush (back left and front right) and 2 deep cheese (front left and back right). Lot of tops, pistils getting some orange and lots of frost. Some leaf bleaching due to the fact that I had no idea how tall they would get and the Platinums are at the top of the world. Doesn't seem to be overly hurting the buds though.

Yep, insects could do this. So could several viruses. Interesting that it only effects a couple strains. Did you get the clones from the same source?

Sorry Doc, didn't see this until now. The clones came from my mother plants, two of my three Green Crack Moms, from seed I started. Y Griega is still fine using the same brix schedule. I now have the clones upcanned into 7 gallon pots and they seem to be coming out of it. I'll be updating my grow journal with some pixs tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for your help!

You're using the kit? DeStress Spray for sure. Follow that with a Rescue Drench. (bottom of last page of instructions)

Hopefully, when you recharge the issue will clear up. It doesn't appear terminal. Have you pruned up the lower branches?

Mag def...possibly. If he's in my kit soil there is no pH fluctuation. There's far too much minerals in the soil for the pH to fuctuate, not to mention that it's alive.

It's in the kit, I had given recharge and a qt. of earthworm castings just this weekend, second cat drench and a bit of Calmag followed. So that's good. So the next pix might reflect some changes. Looking for the revenge of the trichomes soon (I love cat drench time!).

A question occurs to me: you mention destress and I have some in the fridge from spraying some clones this morning - can you spray it cold from the box or should you let it warm up? Probably no difference but I hate to assume.

I've been trying to ascertain whether White Widow is a heavy feeder but I can't get a line on that.

I have pruned the bottom more than I have in the past, but I still think I leave too much on them, and I keep telling myself to prune more aggressively if only so the trimming isn't so onerous and time consuming. Your plants always look much sparser than mine. I veg longer and probably have eight nodes deep, you seem to have only four to six it appears. I'm afraid to lose yield, but the tradeoff, it seems, is beefier colas and maybe fewer of them if I prune them and/or veg them less. It's all a fun experience and it certainly is something that I constantly work on to dial in.

Oh, and I never measure Ph. Ever. Only when I experiment with my Hempy pail...

I hadn't thought to give a rescue drench, didn't seem so dire. I'll hold on for a day or two and see what transpires.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Not really running a journal atm but it seems like a good spot to interject a little update.

Finally got some nice DBHB leaves to properly add back to a bin of soil, and well whadya know....

MKenyon, I feel ya on how much to prune! Doc's advices have helped me a bunch, as well as just experience hacking away at difference strains in different levels of jungle. It is different for me every time! Some of what I judge to leave on lower branches is branch thickness and light penetration. I leave a little more on that Doc sometimes but his rules of thumb work very well. (3-5 nodes)

This Pure Power Plant is on its first week of flower and just had all her public hairs brazillianed, ready to run to the finish line!

Don't use Calmag....if you are worried about magnesium, use epsom salts.

No problem spraying it right from the fridge, just to it when stomata are open.

White Widow is usually a heavy feeder too.....
