Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

They need a scratch n sniff app. Shit, Doc. That's dank

Ever look at your plants under MH and think they look a little rough only to see them under regular light and think they are looking pretty damn good?

Yep. My aging eyes are fukt these days anyway, so natural light, hi-res pics are the cat's ass for zooming in and looking at the important particulars. For me anyway.

Things are quiet and happy these days.

FWIW, I had 3 days where temps got into the low 90's....due to a record heatwave AND the addition of LED's to replace vented 1000watt HPS. In those 3 days, my pet spider mites got incredibly frisky and I actually have a small mite issue that I've dealt with decisively.

It's the first time I've had mite issues in many months, all due to environmental stress. Normally, High Brix plants don't show any mite damage and there's no need to treat them, etc.

Yikes. Something is very, very wrong with the roots.

Do NOT do anymore flushing or pH downing. If your well water is that high you must have needed quite a bit of pH down to get the water in that range and that will not help.

Do you know the TDS or PPM of your well water?

Yes the PPM is 222, the EC is 0.5 and the pH today is 9.1
However my water is very soft well water, not hard at all.

A few years ago I had my water tested and the guy who tested it said it was the best well water he has ever tested and I needed nothing to clean or filter it. (He was trying to sell me filters.) I decided if I needed to lower my pH I should use organic methods. I am trying Safer pH Down - OMRI listed.

1. There is no reason at all to lower pH.
2. Adding pH down can and will hurt your myco.
3. Adding pH down can and will ruin the ratio of major elements.

Something is very wrong with those plants at the root level. I have no idea what might have caused it, but clearly something has gone wrong.

The new growth looks green, so you might be able to recover, but something is definitely off. That's not at all what High Brix looks like.

TG - you haven't been adding PH- all along have you? Only recently as a corrective attempt?
I was wondering if adding PH- could actually cause it ???

Greetings, Doc....you mentioned you now have a product for PM and spider mites....haven't heard much about it....is it available....what exactly is it....curious minds would love to know.....can you spill any more beans...?

It's a 4 day foliar spray regimen using 4 different products and Dextrose.

It's designed for PM management, but if you sprays the bottom of the leaves it also works well against mites.

TG - I'm no expert on the subject, but I suggest the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" method for your pH problems. A 9.1 pH is high, but if your other plants are doing just fine with that pH, then keep the pH the same for the clones you took. If you're not growing hydroponically, then water pH should be of little concern. Just for perspective: how would you like it if all you wanted was a glass of tap water and all you kept getting was strong lemonade? Just sayin'. Hope the plants bounce back. :Namaste:

To Cat drench or not to drench, that is the question...

Question: does anybody have photos or a link to photos of "bud set"? I'm thinking my Papayas are ready for their Cat Drench, but I don't want to give it too early. I'll try to get some photos up in the meantime.

Edit:

Here is a photo of my tent during lights off. They have been on 11/13 for 12-days, though I accidentally had them on a 14/10 light schedule (instead of 16/8) for a couple weeks prior. Do I do the Cat drench now, or wait a bit longer?

Thanks and good day! :Namaste:

MS - HERE is a link to my post where I gave the first Cat drench. If I was to do it over, I probably would have jumped on them a week earlier (you can see what they looked like the previous week HERE).

This is my first run so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks for the link, Major. Very helpful.

Those are ready for Cat Drench. You could do it now, or in 5 days, or anytime inbetween.
