Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

You're in coco then.....I'm not your guy. I do not understand how to grow in coco. Sorry.

I'm your soil guy. Coco is very different.

As far as CFL's go......you'll have a hard time all around getting a decent yield. I'd put like 8 or 9 CFLs all around the plant, keep it small, and don't water till it's just starting to droop.

Dammit..................... so i jus started off COMPLETELY in the wrong direction seems like..........i'll grab some more lights, i thought i had too many. i've been trying to keep it small but i think that i waited too late to switch the light schedule. Its only about a foot and a half almost in height. So is soil better than coco?? should i just give up on this one and start fresh or wat?? Its got the whole room smelling loud as hell though

I wouldn't say "soil is better." Soil is different....and there are reasons why a person might choose another medium to work with. I use soil because it's the only way to achieve high brix, nutrient dense produce. But there are many other ways to cultivate our crop....

I think if you triple your lighting you'll be OK. Why not use this one as a learning experience?

i was thinking the same thing, using it as a learning experience. do you have a clue as to why the edges of the leaves are curling??? i read on one of these forums about adding Epsom salt to cure or possibly moving the lights back, but they lights are only like 60 or 70 watt.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey Doc,

I have some hi brix clones in 1 gal pots from some of the hi brix lot I am doing outdoors and I wanted to get your take on it. I also replied in some thread about downword leaf curling in my adults but all I ever get is Ph this and that. I am prepping these clones for a vertical hi brix double donut indoor with 2 1ks and I want to get this remedied before they go in. Scheduled regimen of foliars and feedings so far in the soil I cooked in June(Which took on some high temps as they were outside here in no cal and I have always been worried about the herd) Anyway 2nd cook has been indoor with good temps and is ready to go. Have them under 6 bulb T5s currently and was setting them out in the sun during the day and bringing them in under the lights before sundown and they were doing good but they have always had some degree of the clawing. It is on all new growth now as well. Thoughts? As always thanks!

I wouldn't add anything just yet....coco is weird when it comes to certain ions....talk to an expert please!

Hey bro! Those look slightly challenged with Energy....they'll be fine once respiration increases in the bloom room. Feed with a lighter dose of nutrients next time......you'll be fine, there's no necrosis or anything like that.

What is a good or ave. price for the Pro mix HP 3.8 cu.ft. bale?

50 bucks is a good price....thanks for the compliment! I had very little to do with the condition of these plants. My helpers in the soil did all the work....

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Ok thanks. Just found some today around that price. Looks like I need to order your kit! What size & type of totes work best for cooking indoors as it's cooling off this time of year? It's usually alot hotter. Please PM me for info. I am so excited about this coming together, can harderly wait:) !

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Thanks Doc.......I will go half strength for a few. Getting things dialed in for my first time swing at indoor. Hi brix, vertical, 2k, side by side donuts going 6 plants per donut in a 7X15 room. I am not chewing off too much lol! Going all in on my first grow! ha ha. On board is wild tai(6) SDs(2) BDs(2)Blueberry(2) which have been a pain outdoor for some reason.

The outdoor experiment comparison came out like an ordinary soil grow imo. Seriously considering an RO system here soon. Curled and necrotic leaves with some tip burning lead me to believe I was running them hot with N. Stuck to the dosage you outlined but should have backed off perhaps. The over heated soil cook has always kept me wondering.

Anyway.....as soon as I get it going I may start a journal or at least post a few pics of the build out.

Peace all,

Any2

The only reported problems with the kit have to do with the soil cooking. Too hot or too cold....neither works right.

65-80 degrees is optimal.

Here are some pics just taken: The lime green is EXACTLY what I'm looking for...provided everything is healthy and frosty. If you look closely, you can see some trichomes forming on a few of these.:Hookah:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey Doc hope all is well, Purchased your kit and the soil has been cooking for a couple of weeks, my question is should I open my containers and give the soil a stir or just leave it alone, by the way great pics above.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Simply amazing Doc!

Nothing wrong with the kit at all and love everything about it. I do think the extreme heat during the cook was a factor as none of the plants have that "look". Coupled with heat and shitty clones without a strong root zone didnt give them a shot during the heat waves. I stood fast in not Ph ing the water and letting it sit out before use as well. Def gonna look into RO too.

Don't get me wrong they don't look horrible at all and getting frosty and bulking up nicely, but you know what I mean. I will get some shots up soon as we are really close. I am stoked about this next indoor run with properly cooked soil.

Peace,

Any2

You could give it a good stir....sometimes I'll dump it into another container so as to switch top and bottom of the containers.

Hi Doc. Honestly, don"t know where to start.Old guy eh:) Should probably thank all the people who have been a big part of my research. This will be my first ever post on web!I'm not even sure if i'm doing everything right.Last prson on earth to NOT have a cell phone.Very old school:(.Anyhow...i know you must be busy beyond words with all you do...so thankyou for even taking the time to read this.I'm 54...and have been lucky enough to have grown this most wonderfull plant, that anyone could ever imagine for over 30 yrs.So many people have been searching for that wonder product ...or new information ,that would help them grow the best possible product that the plant has to offer. Look what you have gone and done Doc!! Ali said it once... "i shook up the world!!" You have shook up our world Doc! This "Hi Brix" method of growing can achieve what we all desire ...more RESIN!Since getting into bubblehash a few yrs. ago and starting to really understand this plant after so many yrs. someone has taken the time and effort in actually doing what it took to get the most out of our plants. I for one, am glad that you took on the project.Doc....I have way too many questions to ask here.I've read all your journals and entries for the past two yrs. and many others.Working at one of the local universities i have access to many different depts. in the soil ecology and microbiology fields. Through my research in and around Toronto, Ontario ,you would be blown away at the amount of people running our local nurseries that don't have a clue about what "HI Brix" growing is!! I couldn't believe it. Well ...i'm rambling a bit...sorry everyone! Wouldn't be because of the H.G.K. would it? Doc...can you send me a link or an addy to discuss this more? I'm so slow at typing eh!Out of space i think...Thanks Doc!!

How about we discuss things out in the open a bit here, and then when you get enough posts you PM me? Cool? I really like talking soil, and I'm all about discussion and exchange of ideas.

Until then, I'm overall pretty happy with this bunch. The OG's are really "sativafied" but have the smell and a little something extra. I'm trying not to be too overly hopeful since the last batch didn't work. But with all the guano and K-mag in the OG soil, they grow different. Still lankier than in a hydro setup, but I think the finished product will be dense, golf ball sized nugs with a strong smell and hopefully that classic OG taste coming through. We'll see.

The Lemon Paki's are doing very good this round, as is GSC and Champagne. Just put two more C99's in flower. I've got Lemon Paki, OG, GSC, Champagne and Oaxacan Highland coming up. I'm also searching for a crippling Indica strain. Not that I want to cripple anyone, but I want to see how they perform in high brix.
