Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Tavosvo, I grew Nirvana NL autos in FFOF with OC+ for my first run. If you'd like comparison pics, I have some in my journal, and a lot more on the harddrive. They finished in 12+ weeks.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Thanks doc! Kit grow. Nirvana Northern Lights autoflower. Outdoors in an absurdly small 5 gallon fabric smart pot. 3-5mil feedings every other watering. Wish she was as frosty as some of your specimens like the C-99...but I gotta start somewhere. This is by and far the loveliest plant I've grown! No bugs in my normally bug infested yard! Even if I'm not seeing frosted fan leaves like yours, I'm more than grateful for the pest resistance, and I hope these new beans I got have a keeper or two for me!

The frosting has a lot to do with the genetics. The more pure and unadulterated the genetics of a strain are....the better it grows High Brix.

Keep working with it, read the journals and before you know it you'll be growing the best weed around. Garan's brah!

I like your idea about reusing the soil for a raised bed Doc. Thanks for taking the time to explain the salt build up. I came across something that you may find interesting. I trolled the interwebs, and found no answers, so I have to ask Mater Jedi DocBud! I found some calyxes with 3 pistils! Have you every seen anything like this?

Do you think these genetics may be worth keeping to run with a kit someday, or would I be better served with a purer landrace strain?
:thanks:

I have no idea about those genetics....Just grow it out and see what you get! It sure does look pretty! I've never looked to see how many pistils stick out, but I don't remember seeing 3 ever. I'm not sure my eyes are good enough to tell all the time....

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Thank's for the answer doc. I am growing it out, but I did a pretty mediocre job at best. Happy so far with my first go at it though. I am getting that happyish look on 3 out of the 6. Half have leaves and petioles facing up, with vibrant looking growth. The other three look like it just rained on them pretty much all the time. I tried watering much less often. I also cut way way back on nutrients. I wait until the petioles actually lose turgidity, so that I am sure they need water. The happy plants seem to spring back, but these fickle three, seem to just stay slumpy. That claw look you educated me about.

Your pics are just breathtaking as always, I am just in awe of the amount of trichs you get on the leaves. It is just such a privledge to watch the flowers develop. Now that I am seeing my own plants flower, I have a whole new appreciation for what it takes to grow. Keep up the amazing work. Did you ever end up putting that plant with mites or PM in with yours?
:thanks:

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Doc, Nice trichomes are forming but we have a way to go. When is it appropriate to stop the foliar sprays? Or should I just keep them up until time to harvest? Any other tips for the last few weeks? It feels like the plants are maturing earlier than last year. Lemon Thai faster than Blue Dream. We are about to take some micro lens photos - if good enough will post for comments and advice.

Are your current pics from the kit grow? I get mixed up.

Foliar feed right up until harvest, unless it's foggy and drippy out. I don't think either of those strains should be ready just yet....you've got a few weeks to go...no more than 4, no less than 1 or 2.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

My growing conditions this year are an imperfect hybrid. The plants are in a small 5' x 5' plastic greenhouse out in the back. All for privacy concerns. (Neighbors redid back yard, and can see too much.) Keeping it cool is a daily chore - oscillating fan and hosing off the house outside when necessary. Not as much light as if they were totally outside, as they were last year. And the plants are crowded. However, all the plants are doing pretty well, as opposed to last year when only 3 out of 6 really produced. As you know, all we are concerned about is enough medicinal product for the one in the household with the prescription. Your kit this year has made the process pretty easy, and given the restraints of my system, the plants seem to be doing better than last year. We are planning to use your bud-washing protocol, and look forward to the result. I'll keep on spraying.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I wish it was a kit grow. If I was not moving soon I would do the kit for sure. Once I know I am going to be in a place for a while. I am going to try it. I want to be able to follow your advice and get those conditions as close to optimal so I can really get the results from the kit. Hopefully you will get the PM from me sooner than later!

Is there a bright light in someone's yard shining on the plants at night?

The leaves look like photoperiod stress....IE not complete darkness at night.

Oh my. The moon? And a neighbor does have a light on, I think. I'll spend some time out there tonight. Time for a tarp.
Once again, thank you! Just saw a post on another blog about your bud washing, praising to the skies. You are the modern Luther Burbank!:bravo:

It wouldn't be the moon. It would be some other kind of light, perhaps when they were younger. Were you by chance taking them inside at night and maybe had lights on? Or something else like that?

This happens when people take plants that were indoors with the "sunrise" at 6PM instead of 6 AM. But then you're growing from seed.....hmmm.

Well, we'll just have to see how the harvest goes!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

There is some light from across the street on the top corner of the greenhouse - enough to make a slight shadow. The only other thing I can think of is that they came inside over Father's Day weekend while we were away, but were not exposed to light as far as I can remember. There may be other lights from the back neighbor that just weren't on tonight. Yes - we will just have to wait for harvest. Still looking better than last year!
