Guys paved our way. Docs name, real name will be there soon and thats a goal of mine to be there as well

sounds good, neiko. I figured the amount of perlite wouldn't be too big of an issue, just gonna throw the whole bag in I think.

Time to get to work :D

Hey, thanks for the answer gvtcheeze. I just added the entire 1 cubic foot bag of perlite to the mix.

Doc, gang, anyone. I mixed my entire batch up in a big 45 gal tote and I wasn't able to get the lid on it so I took maybe 15gals of the soil and put it into another bin. Is this ok?

Also, I used 3gal of water to wet the entire mix. It's damp feeling, not soaking wet or anything like that. What does everyone typically use for an amount of water when mixing?

I started with 4 gal. water but it still seemed too dry (no cooking or fuzz after a week). I added about another gallon. At that point it would clump together lightly when squeezed, but still fall apart very easily. That got things going for me.

Yes, there are a couple guidelines in the instructions on EWC and water. I found erring towards the high end recommendations for both of those (i.e. 40# ewc, and 5 gal water respectively) to be the best ratio for my uses.

Thanks for the quick answers guys. It was a pain in the ass trying to mix all that soil in that 45gal bin haha. I'll split another gallon between the two bins and check it every day.

Just let it be Boogy...theres no need to check it for anything. Let it do its thing :)
In total, I have 60# of ewc in my bin...but that's over almost 2 years :)

sorry, what does 60# mean? pounds? I added the 30lb bag of the wiggle worm.

Yessir! 60 lbs :)
30 lbs is whats recommend so youre right on track bro! After your first grow with the soil, add the cuttings, a handful of roots and another 15 lbs of wiggle worm, give it a few weeks and youll be ready for round 2...and watch the magic happen again lol :)

just another +1 from me.

-40lbs of EWC/kit
-5gal h2o/kit (seemed on the low side for me but I didn't add more, live in a very dry climate, dirt has been sweating in the bins for a couple months now, still sweating strong![condensation on underside of lid, slightly dry in corners])
-I got 2 kits spread out over 6x27 gallon totes, about 2/3 full.
-12 plants in 1 gal smartpots used about half of the first bin

Could someone please estimate the volume of a 30 lb. bag of worm castings. Mine was sold by volume. I put 3 * 3 litre bags in a half batch of Promix / ammendment. :thanks:

stole this from somewheres, sounds like it puts you pretty close in the neighborhood. I may go for a couple more a them 3 litre bags.

Available in 3 Sizes:
1 Gallon - 7 lbs
1/2 Cubic Foot - 24 lbs
1 Cubic Foot - 48 lbs

Promix HP is ~27% perlite (according to them). So, adding 5-6 gals of small perlite to a 3.8 cu/ft bale of BX will give you roughly the same % ;)

But don't forget that BX uses vermiculite, so you don't need another 27% perlite. I add ~15% perlite.
