Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

btw CMH stands for Ceramic Metal Halide, they come as a single unit like the gavitas, with the small ballast mounted up in the reflector. They are even straight wall-pluggable because of the low wattage. They put out a crazy spectrum for sure. They also are a good low ceiling solution, as they can be run inches from the buds, as opposed to the 1 meter suggested/never followed for Gavitas. ( I plan to be the first man in history to run his Gavitas at the proper distance har har har)

Also in terms of spraying and using a sulfur burner with open hoods like Gavitas, fwiw, I've done this with no problems quite a bit, even when they were low hung (<~ 6' from lamp to table surface), even using a big 2.5gal plug in atomizer. I think its fair to say I've been both careful and lucky. As long as you are careful, you don't need much luck though.

Gavitas are made to function in a high humidity environment, so as long as you aren't squirting water into an open turned on socket you should be gtg. Even the components behind ventilation guards are protected by Gore-Tex.

I should add that HK came with a copy of his Prop215 Dr's recommendation and that both he and I are legal med patients conducting ourselves well within the boundaries of the law, as individuals growing our own medicine.

I'm not a clone store or a retail store.......nothing of the sort.

Here's how I'm looking at the entire LED thing:

1. They work. Really. The P1200 is a direct replacement for a 1000 watt HPS....except it works better.

2. They require less cooling so many folks can ditch the cooling fans and enjoy a less stressed-out AC and the electric bill that come with it.

Those are the Pro's

The con's are as follows:

1. Durability. We simply don't know how long they last and how often they break. How will these lights hold up under foliar spraying, sulfur vaporizer, etc. This is a huge issue for the large hobbiest on up to the professionals. It's harder to re-hang an entire light over a full tray than to change a bulb or ballast.

2. Economics. The lights will only pay for themselves via savings on the ebill if they last long enough! Also, replacing a bulb or ballast with HPS is pretty cheap compared to shipping a light back and/or paying for a replacement LED. How long do they last? I don't know! I'm using them right now with no trouble, but it would take a year or more of continuous use to break even....longer to get ahead.

3. Quality of produce. How do they stack up against the new double-ended HPS like the Gavita, which are less expensive? ( I have concerns about the Gavita and foliar sprays too, as they have an open bulb)

But if it's quality you're looking for, the newer LED's will definitely deliver. There's just more to the picture for folks like me or especially folks like you, Dutty.

Reliability is my greatest concern. Quality isn't an issue, expense isn't an issue AS LONG AS THEY'RE DURABLE in the garden environment.

That's exactly where I'm at. Id like to try one 1200 or 2 p600 that way if I'm not happy I have a 1000 veg area led and won't be as mad if I had 10 times or more.

First time poster, I have admired "all Ya all's" work from a far.

Doc can you send me info on obtaining your High Brix Mix...Thanks in advance

I know dope cup wasn't like that as bad but neither is the reward

I'm not a tent grower never owned one. What would be the best tent hands down for either two p600 or one p1200. Price don't matter. I want to run the led without any supplemental lightning first.

I know your not a tent grower but someone on here might help me I'm clueless about tents.

i love my gorilla tents.. i have 2...had some cheap one before and it cost me my 1200W toplightled, some seeds and some seedlings..:)

2 or 3 P1200's would work....so would 4 P900's. Shoot, I'm not sure how much difference it would make.

Thanks, Doc. It appears it will be two 600s!! I like that size, even though I have 7x7, I have some other gear in there so my space is closer to 6x7. I'll consider some side lighting down the road also.... I can't believe I'm doing this.... But I'm so excited!!

This Tikal I'm growing (Guatemala x Kush Haze) reminds me of some of your pics. It has those same dark fat shiny leaves.

That sure looks different than my Tikal. Mine has more of a Sativa look.

Well Platinum must have changed their website, I can't find the PAR values anymore. I am almost certain though if you take the wattage light you intended on buying and compare that to 2 lights totaling the same wattage, you will get more PAR from the 2. I hope that makes sense.

Pheno A is indeed curious. Thick tops and no internoding at all. I wonder how amazing will they all turn up.
You got so many genetics and phenos... sweet mother of smoke :lot-o-toke: exotic as a high brix passion fruit. Those Punta Roja got my full attention :thumb:

On a side note, it is sad when the law is used to misguide, manipulate and gray areas are exploited. I hope legalization in your country overcomes this kinda shit and helps as a model for the other ones en route to it. Anyway I hope I can get to visit those canna events soon :volcano-smiley:

Cheerz to yall

Hey Engorage,

For years I called it "Punta Roja." Then, recently it seems everyone is calling it Punto Rojo. You're from down there...which is correct?

Everybody here called it "Punto Rojo", though I think its from plain ignorance. It was supposed to feature a red dot/point at the leaves. But I´ve never tasted it, neither I´ve seen anyone around here with the real produce. After some research I discovered that its name comes from the pistils that go red in middle to late flowering, also the sugar leaves can go red.

So... I think the actual name is "Punta Roja", "punta" is how you call the sugar leaf here and may also be referred to the pistols, cause they look like tips(puntas). "roja/rojo" is red.

:Namaste:
