Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

You think the CAT drench stalls or delays finishing, yet still allows blooms to keep going?
Have you tried an all CAT feed program as your WN, on a strain similar to the WN, to see if it stalls it from finishing too?
.

If anything, it will make them finish faster. I think it has far more to do with photoperiod than anything else. WN (Vietnamese x nepalese) does very different things under 16-18 hours of light than under 11.......I think that their time spent in the veg room changed a few things.

Hey everyone...I'd like to cordially invite you all to my first Journal featuring Doc's kit (of course) and (2) P900's in a Gorilla tent. Should be fun and a great learning experience for me. I'm not going to post this in everyone's journals, as I think they consider that spamming and besides...I think everyone that might be interested already follows Doc's Journals...

Here is the link...it's also in my sig, of course.

I saw the discussion up there about cat drench and would like to ask a cat-related question also.

The "directions" say to use back-to-back cat drenches around/right after week 3. Is there an indicator, time frame, or occasion when it would be recommended/beneficial to use it again?

The week 3 indicator has to do with bud set. For some strains, that might be 4 weeks.

As for when to use it again, that's a matter of personal choice. Try it, see how you like it, experiment, etc.

The instructions are guidelines and principles. The drenches each do something slightly different, and so I encourage people to start trying things once you become familiar with everything.

Doc, what are your thoughts on the correlation between par, heat and co2 supplementation? Are they proportionate? Ive read that if one changes the others need to be adjusted. Youre the only guy on here that I know who pays attention to those types of things and who isnt just blowing smoke...thanks :)

Isnt there a couple guys who used cat like a couple of weeks before the big chop? Tav or Graytail...im not positive who it was but I know someone did lol

I think most of us have tried it....I'm not sure who does it habitually.

Once you learn what the drenches "accomplish" and you're familiar with your strain, you'll come up with your own feeding schedule based on personal taste and preference.

I personally like to us Growth Energy to finish plants on my favorites. The calcium in that product creates a very sweet produce. Not strong tasting, but muted and sweet.

Others might prefer getting them stinky and pungent....in which case Cat Drench and in the future OG Drench might be used.

The one thing I learned for sure is that better results are obtained by NOT messing with the soil, but by using different drenches that can be leeched out later so you can re-use the soil. When I would add bone meal and/or guano to the OG's....I got a bit of the flavor I was looking for, but I also got bugs aplenty.

Bottom line: strains bred specifically for their performance in high salt environments aren't going to come out the same in High Brix.

Curso has tried it as well as Doc. I did it on a couple plants, but they were long sativas. When a plant goes 12-14 weeks in bloom and you drench it at 4 weeks, there's a long period before finish. But if you do another Cat drench near the finish, my advice is to be sure the plant has time to react properly. Don't do it later than 3 weeks from estimated finish.

Nice looking Afghan, Von! :thumb:

Yup I only really try it on long flowering sativas. I got a few packs of beans that will have 14-16 week phenos for sure.

For me, when the plant is pushing pistils, use the cat. When the plant is swelling calyx and making buds, energy.

I also think that a late transplant drench, instead of cat drench, is what many of us are looking for.

Im game for testing that. How late were you thinking?

You can use it anytime......just remember that the calcium in is Growth Energy (mostly) and it is calcium that reallys gets us into HB territory.

As many know, I add Transplant to almost every watering in small amounts. But if you could only choose one single drench, you'd definitely want Growth Energy. Calcium.

Of course, using only one is kinda silly......but GE would be it if forced. The other drenches are enhancments and tweaks.....GE is the backbone of the program.

Hey doc and his band of misfits and ner do wells I got a question. So as of today it's day 18 of the cook on my soil. It's pretty dry oh top 1/3 I'd say. Should I mix it. If so it's gonna be a bitch in those cans so I'll just dump back into the brown mixing tub and re blend.
If not great!!_
Also if I re blend or don't either way would I want to add a gallon or so per garbage can.

Thanks you bunch of swell guys.

I've been trying my last drench before harvest 50/50 energy/transplant, with good results, but nothing to really compare it to. Next round I'll be a bit more evaluative.

Just moisten the top layer a bit. Do you feel the heat from the soil?

You can always put a handful of leaves on top after moistening the soil. If things are going well, those leaves will get fuzzy in a couple days.

If you mixed it well once, then just adding some water if fine.

Yep.

FWIW, I just put my soil near a heater. Cement slabs and cold nights and all.

Doc suggested a recipe like that (MIx up the normal amount of Growth Energy and add to it 1/2 ounce Transplant per gallon)to finish up my last grow. It worked out well although the plant threw a few nanners. Not sure why. It was 10+weeks flowering. The buds were very well loved.
