Doc Bud's High Brix Q&A With Pictures

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I get it Doc.......certainly don't want to be one of the ones. I know you must be crazy busy as well so I will do my utmost to have questions of substance. Ok I will ditch the perlite idea to take up container space and just use them as is then. Probably should have gone with 4 bales and a little more in each but 20 gallons of medium for outdoor seemed sufficient.

Again thanks for all that you do!

Any2

Here's an idea! Why not just put uncooked, out of the bag Promix in the bottom of those cans?

That will solve your problem.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Those are going to be monsters, high brix monsters!!! Can't wait to see those babies, my first time seeing high brix outside I'm kinda excited. Let us know if you start a journal!
Yea I am excited as well! Not sure if I am gonna start a journal but you can bet at the very least for me to be active in this Q&A!

Peace,

Hey Doc! I had a few questions for the second run of soil. After harvest I assume I am going to shake out the roots as much as possible and save the soil back into rubbermaid tubs. Does this soil have to recook with more conditioner? Can I just plant another round into this soil right away?

Also, do you have the kits ready for purchase for the second run of soil? I am beyond happy with the plants in the first run of soil. You are the man Doc! :thankyou:

I'm doing two complete runs of the soil exactly as described in the kit.

take out the large roots, but leave the rest in the mix to become humus. Treat the second run soil exactly like the first run soil, amend it and cook it.

The third run requires a different amendment and far less spraying. I'll keep you posted after that.

In time, I'm strongly considering getting rid of pots and growing in livestock water tanks on casters, with drain fittings. I'm thinking of filling each trough with soil and wheeling tanks in and out of the flower room, re-amending, perhpas planting a cover crop....but no more mixing and putting into barrels. Deal with 300 gallons of soil ONCE and just get it tested.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

Hey Doc,

Its been a while since I last checked in and as always I am impressed.. I follow a lot of growers on the net and your buds are top notch.. Only a very short few produce the quality I see here.. that champagne looks OUTMAZING!!!

I still have some time before I can grow so I am still in research mode and the only thing I am certain of is that I am going the High Brix route, but as far as genetics I am still undecided.. I am not in Cali so I will be relying on Seed companies. Do you have any suggestions??

I am taking my environment very serious.. I plan on running a 4000 watt flower room and I want to be able to maintain temp control down to the degree... Do you think that would be possible in a 10X10 tent or when I move should I search for a home that I can build out my own flower room?? I will have a environment controller, portable ac unit, air cooled hoods, and plenty of air movement.

I am also at a toss up in my veg room.. I dont know if I want to LED, T5 or 600 or 1000 watters.. Do you got a take??

Hey! Thanks for the kind words.

Seeds: hit and miss for me. I've bought seeds 4 times total. I was only happy once. I ordered "fem" seeds once and got half males. Another time I ordered 3 different strains and they all looked the same, like some dude had a big seeded bud and just put those into packs and BS'd the names.

So.....hopefully someone with some better experience can chime in and help you out.

RE: setting up a good room.

The larger the better. High ceilings are especially good.
I recommend not using a tent, unless you can control the temperature in the room the tent is in. They have no insulation, so it's very hard to stabilize the environment in the tent if it differs much from the exterior environment.

I much prefer an insulated box, but I recognize that's not possible for everyone. I grow in 12x12x12 insulated boxes.

As far as veg lighting, I would use a T5. I have 3, all four foot 8 bulb types. I put two flowering spectrum bulbs along with the six blue-veg spectrum.

I do NOT recommend LED's for your situation. I've seen all kinds of trouble when plants go from LED to HPS. Changing spectrum dramatically like that stresses them in weird ways. I hang with a few serious pro's and none of them use LED's and no one they know use 'em.

They're great for hobby growers and coping with heat issues, but if you really want to maximize indoor growing, the HID is still where it's at, couples with a T5 very well too.

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

How can I get your high brix kit? I tried to pm you but alas low post count.

Thanks for the next step,

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

I'd second a request for a journal. That'd be impressive to say the least.
That's not entirely out of the question! I just want to do Doc's regimen some justice for this outdoor experiment and want to get the starts looking like they should first. One thing I am really looking forward to is to see if brix growing helps with the constant pressure of pests you can get from growing outside. One thing for sure is that bugs/pillars love to eat this as much as we love to smoke it lol and it seems never ending.

I was going over some journals and it is a constant war it seems and there are things around the environment that you just can not control. So here is a question for Doc. Are there any concerns in using systemic products like azatrol/azamax and also in foilar applications? Also BT/spinosad? SNS 203/217? And are there any products you should just not use?

Peace,

Any2

Azatrol/Azamax are NOT systemic products. They act on contact with the pest only. They are Neem derivatives and are safe to use.

I don't use ANY of that stuff. It's not necessary. If brix is over 12.....no bugs. I don't worry about bugs. You can come over and release spider mites in my room if you want. They're in there already and wouldn't mind some friends......life sucks for them!

I should have taken pictures of an outdoor grow I visited yesterday. The guy is using the kit in 25 gallon pots, set up with a Dosatron fertigation/injector system.

Absolutely gorgeous and it's his second grow ever.

One of the main attractions for High Brix is the lack of bug pressure. I don't even bother checking for them anymore...unless I have a sick plant. Haven't had too many of those either, but when I do I cull it and don't look back.

Well that is music to my ears Doc! The surrounding vegetation from close by neighbors bring in there issues in the immediate environment. For example tree behind on my neighbors lot behind me is teaming with a whitefly infestation. I get at it the best I can from afar. Anyway..... last year I had used some of these products in a soil drench as well as foilars. But now I am super stoked to see how the brix method fends off the bugs and pillar madness!

re: Doc Bud - High Brix Q&A With Pictures

im digging the 300gal jumbos i have been thinking on realy big containers myself like 55 gallon barrels with 1/4 side sliced off laid flat on a wood frame or just building wood boxes with the tounge in groove i have, but my disability and how to get them in and out of my tent/room might prove a challenge, but i like the idea for sure, makes good sense!

I'm thinking down the road about 10 years and envision a climate controlled greenhouse with blackout curtains. "Trays" of soil are 4x4x3 boxes of dirt with forklift tabs on the bottom. With me so far?

Forklift puts fresh tray of soil into the greenhouse. Plants grow and are harvested....forklift removes tray which is dumped and recycled and puts brand new tray in place. No pots.

Pretty cool, eh?

Thanks!

It might not be that far off....

I'm seeing a large "pit" where native soil is "brixified," scooped out with a skip loader, into my custom trays, which are then put in place and planted, etc.

After a cycle, dump the soil into pit "A," where it will compost and be reamended.....then moved along to pit "B" where it is ready to be loaded into the new trays.

15 minutes to replant this way. Shorter with 2 forklifts and an employee.

I may be doing this with vegetables sometime later this year. We shall see.

---------------------

update: pics to follow later.

I planted 14 C99 seeds yesterday. I need a fast crop, and C99 is fast! I also felt like I needed to grow some seeds again, so these are going to be started on 12/12, per my usual practice.

They should be really frosty! I'm looking forward to it!

The Champagne is off the hook......harvest in a week or so.
